  1. I thought I was clear but in case I wasn't... To Clarify... If I was in charge... I wouldn't be as concerned about having a third player who can play the catcher position on the roster. However... Since it seems to be important to Gardy... I think a better solution would be to train some players for emergency fill in at the position for in game injury and therefore having a roster spot available for a big bench bat. I also believe that since Gardy has had this worry of running out of catchers during the course of a game for quite some time now. The Escobar training makes perfect sense even if I believe that the need for Escobar doesn't make sense overall. I'm also thinking that since Gardy has been here awhile. I think it's possible that the organization has made a mistake not trying to devolop an Escobar or two or three over the past decade. Just working with Hermann is short sighted in my opinion in consideration of what Gardy has been requiring over the years. The organization should have been planning for this scenerio in some way. Arguing weather Gardy should feel that way... Isn't what I'm discussing. I'm trying to discuss under what seems to be Gardy's preference... Which is more realistic than Gardy changing his mindset on the subject.
  2. I agree with you... I wouldn't give it a second thought personally... I think a third catcher is wrong and wasteful. Always have... Always will. However... Last year the Twins had a third catcher on the roster... It was Drew Butera... We had a third catcher because??? Gardenhire feels differently... Therefore training emergency catchers in the minors makes sense from that perspective... not mine.
  3. It makes sense... It's all they have to do... Throw the pads on someone to complete the game in case of injury. Fly someone in from AAA for tomorrow's game and there is no need for a third catcher. Why they didn't come up with this idea last year... I have no idea. Glad to hear they are considering it this year. Going forward... They should be training emergency catchers (plural) throughout the minors... to not put future eggs in one basket in case Hermann doesn't work out. If they don't start training emergency catchers... They are making a mistake. We carried three catchers last year making it philosophically necessary and with the tenure of those who hold the philosophy... they should have been prepped for it already.
  4. I haven't seen Meyer pitch but there is nothing blocking him... At his age... With some dazzling numbers he could be in Minnesota very quick.
  5. I agree and I think the key to you being right is: If Spring Training is actually going to determine the outcome. If it is... Benson and Mastro have some serious catching up to do. Hicks is trying to grab the job with both hands right now and it's fun to watch. Another clue for me is this... When Hicks and Benson are in the lineup together... Who plays CF? It's been Hicks so far.
  6. On point #1... You and I are in agreement... I also do not expect season long contention. I do have some realism in my bones... I just know that the realism bone isn't real and means nothing. I predict in 2013 that some good teams are gonna suck and some bad teams are gonna be great... It happens every year. But I can't go along with the suggestion that hands were purposely bound and knotted. On point #2... I believe we do agree on Hicks but I don't understand the Scotty Pods bit. Rumors are Rumors... A rumor about Scotty Pods could have been made up by anyone playing the home game and speculating... I'm sure it's quite possible that Pods was brought up in discussion amongst Twins staff but... If the Twins were serious about Scotty Pods... He'd be here. Mastro and Boggs appear to be the run of the mill placeholders and I don't like calling them that. #3... I don't know. I'm just not worried about payroll. I think we will see a bunch of Gibson and Hicks and Arcia this year and I'm pumped. "Affordable Quality" both of those words are very hard to define in the context of baseball players. Was Edwin Jackson affordable? Was he Quality? Both are very debatable and its an eye of the beholder discussion.
  7. Perhaps... Or perhaps not... But the worm must turn regardless. If the front office has indeed needlessly bound one hand. You can't ask the team... The coaches... The anyone... to just simply die and not fight with the free hand before the struggle even begins. Personally... I don't have a problem with the Twins delaying the Arb clock in Hicks case and I don't have a problem with Hicks starting opening day. If Hicks is clearly ready and clearly the best option... Suit him up... If he's not clearly better right now. Give him some AAA time to finish cooking a little and save the year of team control. I will only be concerned if the Twins kept Hicks down because the front office said... cuz we are gonna suck anyway. That would be impossible for me to support.
  8. Owners Own... Players Play and Fans Fan... Everyone is looking for the best deal and that includes the fans. I'm not going to say that Pohlad should be thanked, worshiped or anything of the like but I'm really not sure how Pohlad is different than any of the other owners in Baseball. They are running a business and they are going to take advantage of you if they can. Just like Best Buy will if they can. They will do what it takes to sell an extra hot dog even if you don't need it. As for the current state of the Twins... It went south in 2010 and the recovery is going to take a little time. Meanwhile... It's a great opportunity for Hicks, Plouffe, Mastro, Gibson, Hendriks, Worley, Correia, Pelfrey, Diamond, Deduno, DeVries, Parmelee, Dozier, Florimon and others to prove they can play major league ball and be part of the organization moving forward... and some of these players just might be worth getting excited about.
  9. I can honestly say... None of the above. I've never really liked the uniforms. Can that be a category?
  10. Because... No matter what the oddsmakers say... You and I both know that "Mine that Bird" did indeed win the Kentucky Derby in 2009 and the Balitmore Orioles won at Pimlico last year I believe. I'm simply not inclined to look at the Tigers Roster and place it next to the Twins Roster and cancelling my season tickets(I don't own season tickets). The Tigers can fall and the Twins can rise... I won't bet anything important on it but it's possible and it happens every year. Before the season starts you have to put your best foot forward. If Herb Brooks and squad took the what's the point attitude in 1980... Team USA would never have beaten Romania 7 to 2.
  11. Maybe... I don't know... But maybe... Potentially... There seems to be no doubt... but right now at this moment... I don't know... But maybe.
  12. Personally... I can't get behind any argument that comes with the implication that 2013 is a lost season before the season has begun. No matter how realistic that statement may seem to be to some. I hope that decisions are made based upon today and tomorrow. The question to me is this... Is Hicks much better than Mastro right now? Forget about potential.... We all believe that Hicks is better potentially... What about right now... Is Hicks clearly better right now? if he is just a little better right now... Wait a little while and let him do some more cooking in Rochester to cement it and preserve the year of team control... If he is a ton better... Let him start opening day in Minnesota. Hicks had a great year last year but he didn't have the greatest years prior. A little patience won't kill this club to find out what we have before you kill a year for no improvement over Mastro or slight improvement over Mastro.
  13. The marketing firm they hired is obviously trying to grow the market. What was once a female exclusive product... It has now expanded to the cleaning of airplanes and dry erase whiteboards and everything in between. Try not to be upset when your husband or boyfriend uses the stuff to clean the lawnmower.
  14. Ah... I see... When it says "freshen up in between"... It means in between flying on a business trip and your presentation... And not actually... Literally... In between. That kinda makes sense. I thought the product was so versatile that you could also use it to clean the charts off your dry erase board and also clean entire airplanes. Your way makes more sense. As for Dave... He was obviously enticed by the video.
  15. I'm sorry to all impressionable youngsters in attendance but I'm laughing out loud. Look at the right side of the ad... Bordered in purple... It seems there's a video. And why... Why is there an airplane on the left side.
  16. Bon Scott had Soul and fantastic pacing and it was natural. It wasn't like he put a lot of music theory thought into it... he just did it. Brian Johnson is a screamer... Looks like he's taking a dump on stage just getting the notes out. Bon Scott is the clear winner and I don't think it's that close.
  17. Ummm... My Bad... make that 846.
  18. I have no opinion on his innings limit other than... I hope that the Twins find a different way to do it compared to how the Nats did it with Strasburg. If Gibson is pitching well and the Twins are still in contention in September. I hope Gibson isn't shut down. If this means a slowed down April and May or a break mid season... I don't know. I'd just rather see him throwing at the end of the year.
  19. Ashbury John... Congrats on reaching 1000 posts... 847 of them were good posts.
  20. I got tossed out for bringing my own food to the(game)... The concession prices were outrageous besides... I haven't had a good barbecue in a long time -- Stephen Wright
  21. Concession prices have never stopped me from attending a game but they have stopped me from buying actual concessions.
  22. From the players with MLB experience... Mauer is the only player you would consider to anchor a franchise. From the Minor League options... Haven't seen enough of them but in theory... I'd go with the 5 tool guy because there are not many of those players around. If Hicks is actually 5 tools. He'd be the one... Or Buxton... if he has all 5 tools like some say he does. I ain't knocking Sano... I can't wait for his arrival... But... Power can be Miggy or it can be Mark Reynolds.
  23. If Appel... Gausman and Zimmerman are better... I don't know what to say. I know it was just three spring training innings but that stuff doesn't lie.
  24. I had no idea who this kid is but I watched him throw three spring training innings and Wow... Simple Wow... He blew me away. i know it's only three innings and its only ST but my goodness... This kid has out of this world like stuff... I also watched Bundy throw a couple of innings... He was good... Wacha was much much more. That stuff is legit... He won't be in the minors long. If you get a chance to check him out... Do so... Wow... Hard fastball... Sick change up and a breaking pitch that freezes the hitter.
  25. I will always be a Ben Revere fan... I'm gonna miss watching him everyday. That guy brought it with him to the park every day. No matter how big a fan I was... I would have made that trade. He will homer this year... Over the fence... I'm calling it and when he gets the first one... His second will come within a week.
