  1. We got a chance now to retain our players. My original perception of the Twins was formed by Calvin Griffith. lol... if I could get thru Griffith in the days of Free Agency... I can get thru this little bump in the road that was 2011 and 2012... Rod Carew in an Angels uniform!!! That was a heartbreaker. Joe Mauer help push the payroll to 112 million in 2011. There were quite a few other Twins making decent money that year as well. After Mauer was signed the Twins continued to add salary. It pushed the payroll over 100 million and it helped push the memory of Griffith out the door and Griffith was a large figure to push. Mauer was the official turning of the page in my book and i think anything is possible now... So I have a hard time thinking "cheap ass organization" since.
  2. Point Taken... My apologies.
  3. lol... I'm going with "Mild Augmented" I know... I know that's 2 words. The English Langauge is insufficiant if it doesn't have a single word for this! I'm sending a letter to Webster's.
  4. lol... Is there a word between Maybe and Significant?
  5. Viola... I can't remember what he signed for... What I do remember about Viola was his agent sending a pay me or trade me letter and and it pissed off Herbie and Gaetti and he was traded to the Mets soon after. Puckett was a good feeling signing no doubt about it but if I remember right. There was a consensus amongst Twins and National press that he took a hometown discount. Anyway... I was just talking about my personal perception of Mauer's contract (right or wrong) and why I don't have a problem with it. I continue to use Mauer's contract as a reason to feel that Sano will be locked up with competitive deal after he hits 60 dingers.
  6. I'd go with "Upgrade"... Qualified with a "Maybe"... But I can't go along with "Major" No one wanted Escobar... He has been passed around like a 1st grader passes along the flu. Johnson wasn't exactly a bidding war. I'd say it's more accurate to say that the Blue Jays had a Major upgrade and the Rays picked up the Blue Jays cast off's.
  7. Thank God... His left arm is still an arm!!!
  8. That is true.
  9. Mauers contract has always been a happy thought for me. When the Twins offered that contract... And Joe signed it... It told me that the Twins will try to retain our superstars or fan favorites. I didn't have that feeling about the organization prior to that contract being signed. When I think about Mauers contract... I don't think about if he's playing up to it... I don't worry about OPS... RISP or anything of the sort. I think... Here's an example of the Twins no longer spending like a small market team. That thought sustains me thru periods of payroll dropping like it has the past few years. Because of Mauers contract... I believe the Twins can and will add to the payroll when the time is right to do so.
  10. I agree with you... In my mind... If Parmelee proves MLB capable... Trading Morneau makes sense to me. But... I say that without knowing what Morneau would fetch in return. I just can't shake the feeling that Twins would try to keep him regardless out of loyalty for lack of a better word. if the Twins reach a deal with Morneau... I won't be surprised and I would also be OK with it. I've been a fan of his since I was begging for his call up in 2003. Even if Morneau and Parmelee on the same team clog things up.
  11. I'm with you... I think Deduno is going to be a wild wild card at some point this year. Statistically... I have very little reason to be optimistic about Deduno... But... I've seen him pitch... His stuff is electric... And that gives me optimism... Just some consistent mechanics and his control can improve and if that happens... Well... that's an IF... but... IF he does... he could cause problems for our opponents with that stuff of his. I'm not going to scratch Deduno off my list until the Twins do. He could be one of those guys that we don't plan on but end up being part of the plans.
  12. I don't know if he would or wouldn't but if an offer is competive... Staying with his team isn't a totally crazy thought. There are some people who like to be a part of something thru thick and thin. I don't know if Justin is that guy or not. I don't know what the Twins plans are for Justin. Just a gut feeling that the Twins would like Justin to stay based on no inside information at all.
  13. Glunn... I will buy you a beer... Anytime.
  14. Its Ok... Get up... Dust yourself off and try again.
  15. I would have no problem letting this guy work out some kinks for a year... If his stuff is that good.
  16. After that scouting report... I can't wait to see him pitch.
  17. If Parmelee plays well and Morneau rebounds and the team struggles at the same time... It would seem to make sense to try and get something for Morneau at the deadline. However... I just have a gut feeling that Morneau is a TWIN!!! There seems to be a loyalty side to the front office. I don't see them spending big money on Free Agents but I do see them spending on keeping players. I think they will work something out and Morneau returns for 2014 regardless of what Parmelee does. Just a gut feeling with no basis.
  18. Thanks Hammer... Interesting stats to look at. He's still on the innings low side... the numbers need to stabalize and I remain hopeful that the numbers stabilize in the right direction as the inning count goes forward. The Vanimal... I can't wait for April. Let's go.
  19. Is that 2012 or career?
  20. The Indians are just like the Twins... They need pitching and they need it bad. Like the Twins... They had no depth in the starting rotation last year and were forced to trot out guys who were struggling... Bauer, Myers, Dice K and Kazmir may provide some rotation depth and like the Twins... With just average pitching instead of terrible pitching. They could surprise a few of us.
  21. I'm very optimistic about Worley. I read a lot of comments about him being a 3 or a 4. That may be so... Afterall... last year was a very average year numbers wise... But... There was nothing average about his 2011 season. He was very sharp in 2011 and 2012 could be written off as injury related or sophomore jinx related. Until he shows me differently in 2013... I'm starting the season with the expectation that Worley is what he was in 2011 and will lead this staff and lead it well.
  22. I could come up with more than 5 questions. That's not surprising because I have a lot of questions. Not all baseball related... Like how does this lava lamp sitting next to me work exactly?
  23. Stats say he may not be worth it... Twins Depth at the positions he can play suggest he may be worth it. If they sign him... Welcome aboard.
  24. Clear statistical support of Saunders over Pelfrey and Correia in my opinion. I agree.
  25. It's obvious that Pitcher A is from California and Pitcher B is from Yellowknife. I'm going with Pitcher A in this scenerio. However, you won't find many Pitcher B's. Pitching that poorly usually stops them from reaching that many innings.
