  1. This worries me a little if it's a trend. The latest issue of Kiplingers' specifically criticized outfielder depth insurance as second to only home appliance repair insurance as a bad investment.
  2. "Usable" in center... so is that the scout-speak equivalent of describing a blind date as having a nice personality? Just from what I've read so far he sounds a bit like the store brand version of Kepler. But a good store brand like Kirkland vitamins, not a bad store brand like Krogers' toilet paper. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the Twins won't expect Cave to sustain the .414 BABIP he notched in AAA last year. The .266/.317/.516 line that came with his AA BABIP of .319 seems more representative of his real ability level. And Gil looked like a promising prospect based on the exhaustive 30 seconds of research I did on his scouting reports, so now I need a new low A pitching prospect to project unrealistic expectations onto. Any suggestions?
  3. Possible beat writer headline idea: 'Granite crushed by Cave in trade' ?
  4. So, SOOOO disappointed it turned out to be Jake Cave instead of Nick. Couldn't they at least have gotten one of the current or former Bad Seeds, I'm thinking maybe Toby Dammit or Kid Congo Powers for a low A prospect?
  5. I remember Sears constantly butting heads with Gary Ward. But BB Ref says Ward was long gone when Sears made it to the bigs, so I might be thinking of the long running battle between the two department store chains.
  6. Of the Big Four, you sign whoever is most likely to flash the cash around their teammates. It totally blows to not have money when your peers do, so the other three fall like dominoes. Boom. Group discount. You're welcome.
  7. It's a survival skill. Our summer is nine days long. And that's in southern Minnesota.
  8. Everyone be sure to stay tuned for ESPN game highlights! Or just go to work on your cranium with every power tool you own. On a more positive note, what an unexpectedly fun and promising season, and thanks again to all the folks who make the game threads so great!
  9. I projected the Twins to get lost and then mugged on the way to the stadium, so I was thrilled when they showed up in the dugout. As always, Game Thread made it fun anyway. Thanks for a great season, everyone!
  10. Their loss. They just missed Mauer starting the two-out, four run rally.
  11. You used science and technology to vindicate my abject hatred of the Yankees, and I am forever in your debt.
  12. He might end up being the best available reliever before it's over.
  13. Judge seemed relatively ok for a Yankee, but then I found that he's wearing 99 without knowing who Gretzky is... http://davenaves.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/doc-holiday-i-hate-him.jpg
  14. "I remember every detail. The Yankees wore pinstripes. Our boys wore down." http://img.playbuzz.com/image/upload/f_auto,fl_lossy,q_auto/cdn/7187f5bc-7603-40ee-a53e-a018fb801789/93572c43-6c91-4b65-90a2-701b4b6f59d0.jpg
  15. Bat? Soon. Hit? Spring training is my guess.
  16. Thanks for leaving out the part where in a little over half a season worth of games they got a WAR from a former Twin that would have ranked third highest for the season on our roster, and we got.. ...what did we get again?
  17. Maybe, but it looked to me like the ball was already nearing its final resting place between home plate and the dugout when Judge and his steamer trunk debarked at third.
  18. Maybe even if he had gotten out of the first with a lead and fewer than 25 pitches. But along with the whole Yankee Mystique thing, they're just really good at taking pitches, getting on base, and bashing the bejesus out of the baseball.
  19. A spectator, but a lurking spectator. There's a difference.
  20. And yet I think the old Gardenhire Twins managed that very feat on multiple occasions against the Yankees, including several playoff games that were among the least competitive sporting events since the Lions hosted the Christians.
  21. You made it past the bottom of the first?
  22. I started disliking them long ago, but that very gesture you speak of was the one that caused me to vent about Yankee fans tonight. Now they rub me the wrong way both figuratively and literally.
  23. Nothing more inspiring than fans behind home plate who are worth more than the combined GDP's of every nation in South America wearily rising to their feet yet again to cheer for a team that cost more than an entire aircraft carrier battle group.
  24. Happy to be of service, as always. I would never have remembered it from the movie if the Twins hadn't made it part of their organizational mission statement.
