There's spring training for the latter if you're interested: http://www.thegreatbullrun.com/events/mn2014/ Guessing the trick to it is to drink enough to numb the pain, but not enough to impair motor skills.
Wonder if the broadcast team has a stat regarding how long it will have taken Gardy to get wins 901-1000 relative to other guys who've done it. Interesting that he and Kelly represent 20% of the guys who've won 1000 with the same team.
She just happens to be in the frame when Ferris delivers the line. No, trust me, dude, I'm the last one to suggest you hook up with Ferris costar Mia Sara, or anyone else for that matter. But 'borrowing' a Ferrari, on the other hand...
Yep, even this early that's 25 pitches earlier than you'd start to be concerned about most guys. But last year it just seemed like Pelfrey would hit the wall before the pitch count would suggest, and rapidly reach a point where three quarters of his pitches were a ball or a meatball.
Mollie has to sit next to Gardy and constantly hear about the evils of stats so he's ready to manage when Gardenhire is promoted to Vice President of Looking Out the Window...
Whatever the payoff of the extra offense netted by batting Hicks in the leadoff spot, it's hard to see it outweighing the risk of him pressing and foundering again. Eventually leadoff should be his until Buxton is ready for it, but it's hard for me to get excited about putting him there when the season is three games old. Give him at least a month to get comfortable at the plate before asking him to accept the greater responsibility of leading off. Waiting to move Hicks up and missing a few AB's from a guy who's finally living up to his billing as a strong leadoff guy is a first world problem, like having to drive half an hour before you get to a stretch of road where you can drive your Ferrari 150 mph in relative safety.
And the series was a good object lesson in how hard it is to lose 100+ games. There are games where you get outplayed (Monday) and games you should win but manage to lose (yesterday), but then there are the games like today that you deserve to lose but end up Escobarring your way into a win anyway. Love that Cola is Arcia's translator, btw.
The physical impossibility of this will be covered in an upcoming episode of the newly remixed 'Cosmos'. http://rack.2.mshcdn.com/media/ZgkyMDE0LzAzLzI0L2RiL25laWxuZWlsLmM0NmEwLmpwZwpwCXRodW1iCTk1MHg1MzQjCmUJanBn/4dded104/e92/neilneil.jpg
The really sad thing about Buckner isn't how !tty of an umpire he is, it's how proud that the he is of being a !tty umpire. The Drebenesque ringup of Mauer on a pitch a foot outside would be good for a three game suspension in a league that was serious about not allowing buffoonery from the 'stewards of the game'....
There's not supposed to be such a thing as quotas for law enforcement citations, but if there were, there's a year's supply of DWI's headed to the parking lot when this one's over.
Collabello is an even better underdog story because of how much he looks like that guy down the street who plows parking lots after snow storms for 48 hours without sleeping.
