  1. Good question. It's hard for me to imagine that Molitor would take his current job without there being an excellent chance that he would manage sooner rather than later, so Gardenhire may be on the way out regardless of any wacky roster hijinx. Trying to remember anything that Antony has said that inspired confidence that he'd be a worthy successor to Ryan. Can't at the moment.
  2. Bill James figured that out over 20 years ago, but apparently it's news to the Twins...
  3. More importantly, it should earn a DFA for the person most responsible for Bartlett being counted on as an outfielder, as well.
  4. Which, combined with what we're seeing today, is the utterly irrefutable argument against using spring training as a gauge of player ability...

  6. But it's ok, because he's just the 25th man, and will have virtually no effect on the performance of the team...
  7. In 2016 we will all be amazed that the team relied on Colabello, Suzuki, and Kubel just two years ago. Still hoping Cola's improvement is real, though.
  8. Strained hammer. Day to day.
  9. And yet he never let that stop him from taking the mound when he was with the Twins.
  10. How many runs would a lineup of nine Florimons score in a season? 100? Less?
  11. Yeah, thinking more recent Vanimal rather than vintage.
  12. Inning ain't over yet...
  13. In Adak they have a special name for that... Saturday night.
  14. Let me guess. Batting? http://www.networkworld.com/community/files/user11778/scooby_ruh_roh.jpg You're our best and only hope, JF!
  15. It would if the franchise had not once again carefully and deliberately stripped itself of any strong alternative to Hicksie before the season started. In other words, Hicks had a dreadful 2013 and Pinto had a great one. So the Twins once again discarded the only realistic alternative to Hicks and made their most important off-season position player acquisition a nearly 30 year old catcher who historically can't hit water when falling out of a boat. In water. What was your question again?
  16. Tanks: http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080521182524/indianajones/images/5/57/PresidentofHatay.jpg Do I need to collect the mouse, monitor, and CPU to complete the Basement Nerdom set?
  17. This is a franchise that stuck with Aaron Hicks as an everyday player for half a season after his awful April. If they want to be more cautious about bringing Pinto up to starter status, it would be interesting to hear them lay out the rationale. Offense being off the table, the defensive comparisons would be informative about many things.
  18. In blind date setup terms, he still looks like the first thing you'd say about how he looks at the plate is that he has a great sense of defense. And if he ever wants to post a wOBA over .300, it sure seems that his best chance is still to steal Barry Bonds' Elbow Guard of Pitch Attraction +3 and take a bunch for the team...
  19. Better times 10. But at that rate he's not going to make it to the All Star Break unless he can get his parents to kiss at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance... http://www.chud.com/community/content/type/61/id/144599/width/350/height/700/flags/LL

  21. Nice writeups, Seth. Wondering if you have access to pitch counts and could work those into recaps, at least for the starters. It would be interesting to see how the Twins bring them along as the spring progresses.
  22. He and Kelly are two of only ten managers who have a thousand wins with the same team. They are also not coincidentally two of only four non-expansion managers since WWII to have three consecutive ninety loss seasons and retain their jobs. At any rate, congratulations to Gardenhire, and to the players for discarding what earlier in the week appeared to be a plan to save the thousandth win until the home opener.
  23. Florimon now batting .082, implying that at some point this past week, at least one pitched ball somehow struck his bat and ended up in play. Didn't see it, can't picture it. On the other hand, other people I expected to struggle have looked pretty good.
