  1. This thing could go Vikings/Broncos in a hurry.
  2. Last year, Correia suffered from the perception that the Twins were still operating in a pre-James manner that results in their being totally shocked when a pitcher who can't miss bats implodes. We know now that's not the case, but Correia was signed under that cloud. This year, Correia suffers from the anxiousness to see Meyer and May and the impression that he's the least likely starter to have a future with the Twins.
  3. Wow, nothing like having a base-running gaffe cost a run on the very next pitch. Trying to score from third on that with one out is a pretty big vote of no confidence in Plouffe. Nice to see him come through. The way Anderson is pitching, it might be 13 runs before the first inning is over.

  7. Esco's parents might too before the series is over. Gagne's range was maligned by scouts initially. Eventually greater acknowledgement of the effect of artificial turf and a bit of Bronze Age defensive metrics pushed back on that, and he finished his career with a reputation as an unflashy major plus defender. But everyone could see early on that Gagne had a strong, accurate arm and was excellent at converting balls he got to into outs. Tulo's defense is like Gagne with a minor in leaping throws.
  8. Holy crap. That's a play that keeps a shortstop who OPS's what Tulo slugs on the roster.
  9. CDC alerted, and vaccine production is ramping up as we speak.
  10. Pending a headfirst slide into the team bus, this looks like a yes.
  11. Just in case, can somebody get Deduno a hat for his bat? http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/qBWUIYbIZfA/hqdefault.jpg Nice job by Escobar to keep the AB alive, even without the hit result. It will be interesting to see how the Twins end up in terms of hitters' pitches per PA, and how that compares to other teams without much power.
  12. Yeah, not the first time. As long as it washes off...
  13. Somewhere in Ohio, a sports fan is blogging that the LeBron signing inspired the Indians' rally over the ChiSox.
  14. Starting to think maybe Deduno might be the second coming of LaTroy Hawkins, who would look brilliant here and there as a starter, and dreadful other times. Tulo is one of the best hitters in baseball, and lucky not to have dislocated something on that swinging K.
  15. Shovel-ready prospects increasingly hard to find in the Twins system... http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/08/29/article-1209831-0636EDBA000005DC-917_634x463.jpg
  16. Depends on whether it matters that they play the position they're going to for the Twins...
  17. I thought we didn't....
  18. Yeah, went with 'past performance' to make the bit work, but happy to see him lay off the six walks thing. Tonight Johnson looks more like a guy who's better off mixing in a ball or two.
  19. Wait another inning. If past performance is any indicator, Johnson will probably get around to walking your dog too pretty soon.
  20. Cuddyer reminds me of David Justice, who would make an awkward, non-athlete play in the field or on the basepaths at least once a year that would result in missed time. But even Cuddyer's weird calamities will never top Moises Alou's mega-awesome "I was standing in the outfield, and I heard something pop" injury.
  21. It's hard to see anybody getting very excited about what the Twins could probably get for Suzuki. He's had a nice little run, but most teams won't overpay for a guy who's almost 31 and likely to regress. If they don't move him it's not the end of the franchise. But if the Twins keep running him out there for two or three years while Pinto rots in AAA and they wait and hope for one of two long shots to develop into a good MLB catcher, well, that sounds like planned mediocrity, which unfortunately has a high probability of success.
  22. The Cubs are bad because they're the Cubs. The other teams you mention or alluded to are generally low budget teams trying to get something for a player they can't resign, and some (Miami, Tampa, Oakland among others) have been pretty successful. The counter-truism to yours is that not making major changes to a losing franchise just preserves a culture of losing. And if the rest of the league's past behavior is any gauge, the Twins have already made one major error on the side of caution in that regard with the retention of Gardenhire. With any luck, Ryan is making personnel decisions on a case-by-case basis to improve the future of one of the worst 25 man rosters in baseball, and not just going by a philosophy of either hanging onto or dumping almost everyone.
  23. On a crazy aside not belonging in a game thread, the TV transition spot pretty much rips off Platoon's Adagio for Strings. Expectation adjustment, anyone?
  24. It's an easier cope with a Pink Floyd light show and an Ed Nunez pinch AB. But do what you gotta do.
