  1. Potted plant pinch running for 56 year old Julio Franco. Mitch Williams warming up in the pen. Two fans, a fellow TX reliever, and the bullpen catcher receiving medical attention from on-scene EMTs.
  2. Batter smells glove, recoils in horror. http://generationfilm.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/this-is-spinal-tap.jpg
  3. Stand by, Red River Six. Fast movers inbound. http://cms.parlamentnilisty.cz/content/images/0/12983942.jpg
  4. Beeville to Corpus was about three and a half beers...
  5. But like all the other Texas road signs, it's hard to read due to the double ought buckshot holes
  6. Thank goodness for the hyphen. If it's a comma instead then it's two words you never want to hear from your cellmate.
  7. 'What the hell was that new Rosareerow kid thinkin' there?' 'Not a good play'. http://lifevsfilm.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/maxresdefault1.jpg
  8. Tom Hanneman's postgame assessment of Pelfrey tonight: "Pelfrey was not crisp." Visual aid for those who weren't able to watch the game:
  9. I hadn't realized that the latter point was still open to debate. A former PR guy who's full of it? What's the world coming to?
  10. It's less concerning to me what it says about how they're using May than what it says about the fact that a PR flack continues to occupy the assistant GM position of the Minnesota Twins, a job which he is profoundly unqualified for. It's the Twins rotation, though, and over the past few years the career security of the position 'Minnesota Twins starter' has rivaled that of 'Wife of Henry VIII'. Eventually the Twins will lose faith in their bizarre belief that Pelfrey's tendency to give up scorching line drives right at defenders is not only a repeatable skill but a desirable one. Or they'll suddenly notice Milone's increasing resemblence to Bad Allen Anderson. Or they'll reconsider their stance on Duffey when he sets the MLB record for most home runs allowed in a game. Or Erv Santana will test positive for PGH (platypus growth hormone). Whatever the particulars, somehow the Twins will probably be forced to use their best starting pitcher as a starting pitcher if their plan is to not do so. It is, after all, the Twins we're talking about here, right?
  11. Well, if you have to see your playoff hopes basically burn up in a fiery Hindenburg crash, at least it was against the better team that's taking their spot, instead of dropping four straight to the friggin' ChiSox. Ok, that's not making me feel any better either. Never mind.
  12. Maybe as a favor to the Twins for basically throwing them 32 innings of batting practice, the Jays will nominate us as their vice-contender playoff running mates.
  13. Sporting a stylish cloak that Neil Allen assured him would strike fear in the heart of the next batter, Boyer barely noticed the odd words Allen spoke to Kurt Suzuki as he left the mound to return to the dugout: http://www.geocities.ws/Hollywood/5671/PrincessBride/Image131.jpg "Light him".
  14. Was driving home while Gibson was struggling in the fifth. Usually listening to the Twins on the radio causes me to visual what's hapenning in the game. Tonight the image and sound bite that stayed in my mind as the radioheads discussed bullpen options was this, and it pretty much summarizes the 2015 bullpen for me. http://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/58382851.jpg
  15. Looking forward to raves about Revere's game-changing sac bunt in the FSN postgame. How ya gonna compete against that kind of small ball?
  16. I nominate Boyer for calling Bautista a nobody and plunking him. Two birds, one stone, happy ending.
  17. Mmmm. Now I can look forward to involuntarily making that connection the next time I look up a player's RC+. God only knows what the 'plus' will stand for.
  18. Yup. And with any luck he too can string together 90 innings as a plus starter and prove himself worthy of a bullpen mop of his very own...
  19. Bremer on Plouffe's being "picked off" second, slightly paraphrased: '...well, not so much 'picked off', I guess, but more like randomly wandering halfway to third base, stopping, dressing up in a Little Bopeep costume, having a small picnic, and then not quite making it back in time for tea, or to beat the throw.'
  20. Duffey's second inning reminded me of the dance contest scene in "It's a Wonderful Life", including the result... http://i.ytimg.com/vi/2rha-6qG4OQ/maxresdefault.jpg
  21. Ah. Platooning. When you said "day off" it looked like you meant resting him, not sitting him against lefties. If the Twins can somehow find a way around the binding U.N. resolution that prevents them from platooning, I'm all for it. And as I said in that game thread, with a career .176 average against David Price, it was nice to see Mauer sit. Of course it was probably just organizational muscle memory from short turnaround games during Joe's catching days, but it's still pleasant to imagine they're thinking along sabre lines.
  22. Well, at least the path to awesomeness has been laid out plainly for middle infielders whose batting average trails the overall MLB average by two thousandths of a point. Just hit home runs at a rate that puts you on pace to have the second highest season homer total in the history of the game. In the mean time the Twins will have to get by with a second baseman currently with the second-highest OPS in the league at his position.
  23. This is confusing to me. How many 32 year old first basemen get a day off every week? Why should Mauer? If it would help his offense I'm all for it, but where is either the logic or the precedent? It seems to me that the only first basemen in their prime who play fewer than 140 games in a season are the ones who are platooned and the ones who get hurt.
