  1. wow! Both of them would put us over the top! Just remember, neither if them will be super valuable until maybe after the All Star break.
  2. for the record, I recognize the Rays as being a leader in forward thinking and innovation in the game. I also applaud the progress the Twins seem to have made in this area. Specifically, the opener concept is very far from new. To give Tampa credit for it is a nice 90 win 2018 story but that is one small reason for their success. if so then why go out and sign Charlie Morton. Kevin Cash and his leadership instincts had more to do with their success than any of those pitchers last year. And to emulate the Tampa Bay Rays would hardly be my idea of a blueprint for success. Everybody has to manage their staff however they see fit. We may just be talking about Wes Johnson all winter guys!
  3. and the whole point is this....that IS the way the game has always been played. Its just that teams that do it have to do it in lieu of fielding a decent deep 5 man rotation. Tom Kelly proved you can manage your way into the playoffs and win a championship with arguably one ace and 2 decent starters. That '87 twins bullpen was clutch.
  4. The whole fact that we are talking about our depth makes me smile. One point I would like to make about Adrianza is this. Some players would never be the same for any other team. Case in point Brian Dozier. On the other side of the spectrum, David Ortiz. Adrianza is who he is, a smart team player that is happy to do anything asked to help his team win. We could do worse. If he had any options he would prolly already be gone. But he doesnt. Until Gordon or anybody else can take Polanco or Schoop's job Ehire will be on our bench. Only Rocco and the FO knows why. but, #13 is okay with me
  5. true all of that and you are sooo Right R.B. the best deepest championship caliber teams all go at least 12 deep. (position player wise) The fact that we are even discussing this means we are on the right track.
  6. LMMFAO I bet Herb can still run a 4.2 40 and then get picked off second.
  7. i think they play the option game, the I.L. game and everything they can just to avoid D.F.A-ing Adrianza. I like him a lot and even though i concur with other posters about his weaknesses I just see some sort of his connection with the team that we must not see. Probably a clubhouse chemistry issue.
  8. Probably Cave will go back to Rochester when Astudillo comes back and then barring injury Astudillo goes when Sano is deemed ready. This most likely was the plan ever since Marwin signed.
  9. all i know on may 4th 2019 is that the World Series Champion will be crowned on the field not in the computer lab.
  10. if you just wanna argue every point i make go ahead ....i declare you the winner
  11. sooo because we have a scouting department that primarily uses spread sheets and computers now, then being a good teammate, a hustler, someone who stays out of jail, and someone the fans dont mind their children looking up to just all of a sudden doesn't matter anymore? I feel like this path or this mindset is the root of all the evil in MLB today. The attendance problems in every city. The fact that youth baseball is at an all time low, kids don't care about the game because their parents don't either. Pretty soon there will be Three generations of Americans that are indifferent towards the game. The constant labor strife that will culminate just before the current CBA expires will possibly damage the game of baseball irreparably. These things really hurt the ability of the league to keep cultivating a relationship with new or first time fans. We are way off thread here but sometimes smart guys dont see the long term effects of their brilliance. I do so hope I'm wrong.
  12. I know its a trendy thing to do but.....Im not ready to crown the Rays and adopt their new revolutionary methods. The World Series winner last year won with heart, clutch performances, team chemistry, and a great clubhouse leader.(kinda reminds me of a certain team) New ideas and analytics are here to stay but thats only gonna work as an evaluation tool. The team that wins will have the best players, not the newest model of robots.
  13. I think the opener has been around forever. Back in the day the talent pool was such that No team had 5 quality starters. Every pitcher knew that when the 3-4-5 starters were up it was All Hands on Deck. This is not new. For the Rays(or anyone else) taking credit for a new innovative way of managing their pitching staff is just Nonsense. They dreamed it up from reading history books. The best teams still go 5 starters deep and what you do that 4-5th day either makes or breaks you.
  14. Man thats dumb. Why they gotta try to make it into a gay thing. He prolly said worse. I knew there was a reason i liked that Springer dude....I remember in Minneapolis City Conference one time..i called the ump a blind m@th€rFu€k€® and they didnt even kick me outta the game
  15. OMG Marwin say it aint soooo Seis, Seis, Seis is the devils numbers. Maybe if he bats 8th? Remember when Hector Santiago decided to be number 66? Remember what happened to him? loco en la cabesá¡
  16. Im thinkin there could be way worse times to visit Yankee Stadium.
  17. LMMFAO....the Astros versus the Twins I am hoping! LOL...Hey dont sleep on the D-Backs..just swept the Yankees so they be ready for the weekend.
  18. I have recently heard how Eddie Guardado is still with the organization in some sort of "ambassador" role. I wonder if anyone has thought of him coming back to work with Mejia and Romero as a sort of Latin American mentor to help them transform themselves into major league relievers. It couldn't hurt, and I think those personnel decisions were made after Eddie got reassigned. He's seen a lot. Most importantly the transformation of Joe Nathan from starter to reliever extraordinaire
  19. Everybody pay attention....We prolly gonna see these dudes again in October.
  20. I thought all winter that he would be a perfect piece for us. I still do. Its not really fair to compare his salary to Punto's because the market is way different now. (also I dont remember Punto's outfield capabilities). Marwin is a notoriously slow starter who has thrived in a utility role for the Astros since 2012. The most important reason he is here I feel, is the versatility and flexibility he provides the lineup. As does Astudillo. In this day and age 10 million a year is a bargain for a guy who comes from a world championship program and arguably a Championship favorite contending team for the forseeable future. I dont think he will hit like he did in 2017, but he wont be the player we have seen in April, 2019 either. For those that bemoan his stats thus far, ask yourself where we'd be with Adrianza or who knows who else at 3b this past two months. He has a proven track record. He will be aight. If you dont believe me just ask AJ Hinch.
  21. it was exactly what it was. A good old fashioned showdown between two of the best teams in the American League.
