  1. As Yogi said, "Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical." Both have the ability to produce and have not except in spurts. Somehow they need to find that chip on their shoulder. I agree with Han on Buxton. However, if I were manager I'd sit him for a week and let him stew, except for a defensive sub if really needed. I'd tell him that he has all the tools to succeed and he needs to grow a pair and to figure it out with no one's coaching other than a therapist. He has to get back at playing baseball and forget about performing. For Gibson, I'd tell him about the same, only in a much sterner manner. Actually, someone needs to piss him off. I even thought that the next blow up on the mound I'd go out there and tell him, "This is your mess so effin clean it up, because next time I come out here, you're gone. And remember the others on the field are waiting for you to do your job. So damnit, do it!" At least that's what I feel like doing.
  2. What a great story! It would be a great human interest story in a newspaper or magazine. I can't imagine the difficulty Vadim went through and am pulling for him. We, in the US, often take our opportunities for granted. Reading about others and their struggles humbles me. Thank you.
  3. . That may be so, I'll leave that to you stat people. However, you still haven't provided any data to support your statement. Thus your position on his defense convinces no one, including me. Regarding small sample, I would then defer to scouting reports.
  4. Doom, there seems to be a giant expanse between your evaluation on his defense and Tom's. Do you have something to back up your claim?
  5. I agree, but as with any surgery there's risk. My daughter had it about 5-6 yrs ago and has seen a slight regression. But many advances have been made it that time. I really hope that this doesn't become an automatic procedure, but only for those that need it. Boy I could have used it in the sixties with my 20/400 eyesite, but I still had the second highest BA on our HS team. BTW remember Ryan Duran a relief pitcher back then? He was blind as a bat. Another good article!
  6. Im hoping that's the cause.
  7. IMO, This statement from Nick is the most important of all: "... the individuals charged with this Dozier decision are coming into the situation with clear eyes, and no inherent illusions about the current state of the organization." Those are views of two outsiders on Dozier's value. I'll defer to them,
  8. Now I don't remember your take on those trades when they happened, but IMO you just confirmed the difficulty in trading MLBers for prospects. It's a crap shoot. That doesn't mean you don't do it. In this case I have a bit more confidence in the current FO as to their strategy.
  9. Exactly. In the grand scheme of things, cash, unless it's substantial ($200k), is pennies. It would seem to me that you then pick the player you want. If it's not signing dollars my head will itch a bit.
  10. That's true. When I read the article on MLB Rumors I took it as they were describing his offense only. Certainly Eaton carries other positives. Still I believe Dozier should net a similar or better haul.
  11. These trade surprises me a bit with return for the WS. Must be that Easton had a "brilliant" year with a line of .284/.362/.428 with 14 HR / 14 SB. ("Brilliant" from the article.). If that is the case how does one describe Doziers line of .268/.340/.546 with 42 HR / 18 SB. It would appear that he should return the same and more.
  12. ?? How bad do the Dodgers want, or like, to get rid of Puig? Would taking him on in a trade help sweeten the pot for the Twins? Just wondering.
  13. Let me get this straight, our new front office has been on the job a month now and they've already succumbed to the nepotism of the Twons way. Wow, that must be one hell of a cultural pull. Really, these two come from outside the organization and likely see something in the three that meets the needs that the new FO sees as important. It's not like Hunter, Cuddyer, and Hawkins have been outside MN. They've all experienced success with different organizations including the World Series. They were all popular and good team leaders. Their experience outside and within the Twins should bring a valuable asset to this organization. At least IMO that's what Falvey and Levine believe. For those that fear a continuation of the same old way, I guess I can only say that one has to have a little faith and patience. It is very likely we won't see many major changes until deep into 2017. I think it's important to see the subtle changes at first, like signing Castro or releasing Plouffe.
  14. Good article. Just wondering how many you had eliminate to get to the final five. Might have been easier to list the five that aren't in line for a bounce-back season. That is if you can find that many. Seriously, the Twins performance in 16 featured many that could have better years, like those already mentioned.
  15. Regarding being competitive, Falvey did NOT say they would competitive. He said, “I don’t want to put restraints on teams. I want to go into the year with the hope that we are a competitive team that continues to build and gets better every single day.” He "hopes." This sentiment in no way ignores reality. To say they are awful, or will be, does nothing to promote anything but a negative attitude toward the team and expectations. These are humans and hope is what drives humans, otherwise what's the point of doing anything, including living. I'm sure he fully understands the situation here and has no illusions. But I, for one, would greatly disappointed if he started out saying there's no chance to be competitive, (Which, btw, can be a subjective term.). How competitive and by what measure he did not articulated.
  16. I don't know if Holland would be a good move. I think I'd be more inclined toward Clay Bucholz if Boston declines his option.
  17. I give him a break on the injuries and even the time he missed. But apparently something was not clicking with his coaching, whatever the reason, thus the poor results. I would hope that this if one of the first corrections made. What baffles and really frustrates me, and my brother, is that the Twins will not, cannot, or don't know how to pitch inside. It seems the teams with good staffs do this well. Now, admittedly, I saw only a handful of games this year. I haven't seen that done here since the likes of Radke, Santana, and Liriano era to any extent. Is it the fear of putting men on base that petrifies them, thus eliminating a part of the pitching game that can lead to effectiveness?
  18. Mike, i didn't say I don't trust those news sources. I just have a bit of skepticism towards them
  19. What I find somewhat perplexing is how the search firm did not know that Cherington, or others(?), did not want to interview. That really is their job to vet candidates and to find out those that are interested in the position, including their willingness to interview. I'm not sure how much value to give to these reports that don't have named sources
  20. This move is something that Bill Veeck might do for publicity. In a couple of years he will be approaching expected digression in his skills, of which has not been in development in the past decade or so. I happen to like him but really question His decision when so many odds are against him.
  21. I have to side with the "mind" side of his current pitching problems. He is a hard worker and takes coaching like the best of him. That can get many out of whack by implementing all the tweaks. I happen to agree with thrylos: relax and let things fly and have fun playing the game.
  22. Lavelle paints a different picture in the Trib today. (Unable to post the link.) Anyway it would surprise me that a GM would be named that early, as 2 months is not very long for a search for this level of a position. Unless they were in the "hunt" much earlier than TR's departure. Also, I'd rather have them take the time to get it right vs. get someone there to beat a deadline, self-imposed or not.
  23. This whole concept is offensive to me. Tanking a season, IMO, is an ethical crime. It cheats the fan who pays money to see players do their best to win. It cheats the players who pride themselves on their performance and the respect of their abilities. It cheats the other teams of the league who are playing to win and expect their opponents to give it there all every game. It cheats the integrity of the game. Now, and I think this is what you're really asking Tom: Should the Twins FO take the approach toward next year and beyond on how they structure and adjust this team without concern about the won/loss record? To that, I say yes. But it should be done with integrity to the game, fans, and players intact. To strive for a higher draft pick is short-sighted and foolish. Making moves by calling up prospects or unloading veterans toward an eye on next year seems prudent and wise.
  24. I believe many Germans have carried the nickname "Dutch." It comes from the German name for Germany, Deutschland.
  25. And coaching, assuming that it is accepted. I have hope for Rosario
