1. Did you get that from the Department of Redundancy Department? Something like that. Something like that.
2. When the White Sox announced Robin Ventura as their manager, it was somewhat out of Right Field and a surprise. What if Gardy is fired and the Twins pull a shocker of their own, and name Kent Hrbek Manager... what would happen?
3. Strike that campaign. Jeff Gray has been charged with Crimes Against Humanity and is being sent to the Hague Court in the Netherlands to face trial.
4. Did you get that from the Department of Redundancy Department? Something like that.
5. Well, somebody had to bring it back... Enough is Enough < Jeff Gray - Damn, Jeff Gray Wins:(
6. It's like deja vu all over again...
7. If Gardenhire keeps his job it will not bother me and if Gardenhire gets fired it will not bother me - but I think a change would be exciting for the fan base and it would be interesting to see what some new blood could bring to the table. I liked what the Cards and Sux did by bringing in a former player who was well respected with a very good baseball IQ. For me Red-Dog fits that bill.
8. If the rain stops, you will see the answer my friend. ... and then some.
9. 1. Seth - Dave Martinez would be one of the best choices. 2. John - LaRussa, Can't go wrong with that, but I am assuming he is done and not coming back. I agree with Seth in the wanting a manager that is not a retread... but LaRussa would be the exception to the rule. 3. Seth - Why no love for LaRussa? 4. Winston Smith - Your choice is my choice... why? Not too sure, but that is the one I would like to see.
10. Lester is a left-handed stud on a ****ty team right now. I would welcome him as a one on one trade with any Twin right now. 28 year old power lefties don't grow on trees. Last I checked, the Twins let one of those go within the division lately... Thrylos - Great Swordsmanship. That was a quick and simple dicing of that post.
11. A lot has been said on the site about wanting Gardenhire to be fired because he has lost his edge or worse things, also, a lot has been said about how he should retain his managerial position because the Twins roster is not his fault and the blame should fall on the Front Office. The scenario is this.... Gardenhire is fired at the conclusion of this season. Who do you want to get the managerial job and make the difference that Gardenhire could not procure? (If you are a Gardenhire supporter and want him to stay - give your 2nd choice) P.S. Please leave Terry Ryan out of this.... that is for a thread you can start. Also, if someone already threw out a similar kind of thread, I apologize, I did not want to dig through the archives.
12. From what I have read recently... no Zach Lee involved in the trade. Nice for the Dodgers.
13. Ugh... Have I become the Paul Hogan of Baseball?
14. A-Gon scratched from tonights line-up and summoned into the clubhouse along with Punto according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com (via twitter). Somethings going down - but to what extent?
15. If it takes most of the money off the books for Boston it would be a great transaction. I have a hard time believing that will be the case though.
16. Zach Lee would have to be a part of this deal.
17. Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com is reporting via Twitter that The Dodgers and Red Sox are closing in on a blockbuster deal involving A-Gone, Beckett, Crawford, and Our Beloved Nick Punto. WTF? What will Boston get in return? If this happens, it will have to go down as one of the biggest trades in the history of this game... crazy!
18. The HBP was definitely intentional. I would think the Rangers must seriously regret signing this guy - he has pitched like S@#t, he says he will not pitch out of the bullpen if he is demoted on a team that has the guns to win it all, and then he goes and pulls a bulls@#t move liking hitting Mauer on a 3-0 count after he makes a bone-headed fielding play, looking like a spoiled arrogant brat all the while. Seeing the look on his face after his fielding mishap was all I needed to see to know the HBP was intentional. I cannot imagine Ron Washington or many of his teammates were thrilled with Oswalt's actions... honestly it would not surprise me if Texas gets rid of him soon. Oswalt has been good in the past and you never heard anything bad about him - I guess this is Roy's bad person year and probably his last as a player.
19. I suppose anything is possible, but Santana an HOFer? No way, no way, no way. Comparison's to Koufax? What!? Kobs is on point that the 2 can never be compared to be similar. Johan had a nice short term run and he was great, but not Koufax great - now he is 33 with a tired arm and I would be surprised if he ever pitched 200 innings in a season again. Like I said, anything is possible, but Santana being proposed as and HOFer seems a bit outlandish. I'll even go as far as to say Jamie Moyer has a better shot at the HOF and that is not going to happen... strike that last sentence, but Santana as an HOFer is a ridiculous notion.
20. If the Twins are going to win a game this series - tonight is the night. Oswalt has been awful thus far. Twins plate 11 tonight, led by Morneau's 2HR's and 5 RBI's and Revere going 4 for 6 with 4 runs scored and 2SB's (Fingers Crossed). Final score 11-6 Twins
21. Probably not, but after watching the Twins play the last week+ I have seemingly forgotten what the term "Fun" means when it is implied to Twins Baseball.
22. Nice curve ball Glunn. I know a little bit about basketball, but I am no afiicionado. The Euros took quite an interest to that sport in the last 40 years and their talent ranks have been growing. The Spanish and former Eastern block seem to produce a fair amount of NBA talent. The Euros have not been subjected to, or do not like baseball. As of now it's a western hemisphere and Far East thing, Australian Basketball = A couple of high profile WNBA players and former T-Wolf Luc Longley. The Twins have a minor league youngster from Germany - Max Kepler, the Mariners's have the Italian Alex Liddi, and the Netherlands have a few players, but they probably were born and grew up on the Caribbean Islands that are controlled and property of the Netherlands. The Land Down Under has no such things... I think?
23. Hey PFH. Another enjoyable article. I am look forward to your next one!
24. Obviously I am no scientist. The folks who have read my threads or other tid-bits on this site, probably consider me some other choice words. I’m cool with that. I consider myself the guy that is rolling some dice in a back alley in urban America, making deals, breaking deals and throwing some ideas out there that probably won’t stick. I still try and one of these days they might stick… Ha, Ha! Evolution – If you are a human being who believes in evolution, it is probably thought about in terms of a 100,000 – Millions of years. It doesn’t seem like we talk about it in a year to year, decade to decade, millennium to millennium kind of way and when it comes to Australian baseball players – maybe we should. What I am about to write is not about superiority or inferiority on a human level, but on a baseball level – please take note of that. Baseball is an American Sport which borrowed some ideas from somewhat similar sports in the United Kingdom and beyond. America made it their own, ran with it, made it better and created the best sporting contest in the history of the world. Baseball has reached out to other countries – far and wide and Australia is one of them that has sort of picked up the game. Baseball in Australia is not a tradition as it is here in the States. I have no percentage on Australians playing baseball, but it is probably comparable to Americans playing Cricket or maybe a better comparison is Rugby. I would imagine that the baseball gene is not yet imbedded in the muscle memory, coordination, and physical instinct of the baseball playing Australian. It took many generations of Americans to make this game what it is today (1860’s-2010’s). Australia is roughly 25 years into it. Repetition, physical ability and love for the game are not only passed onto the next generation by word of mouth, but also by the ability to reproduce and implant their genetic mark, a mark that contains the imprint of baseball. So far in Australia’s brief history with baseball, I am assuming that Dave Nilsson (position player) and Grant Balfour (pitcher) are the best players to come out of this country. Although many are disappointed with Liam Hendriks and his performance thus far, he is genetically new to baseball and is one of the few Australians who has made it to the MLB level. Maybe he will have success, maybe not, but he will be one of the men who has an opportunity to reproduce, strengthen and further the Australian Baseball movement and evolution. One day there will be an impact Australian Baseball Player!!!
