  1. Kab already did. Again, why is it such a known fact that he didn't do roids? IMO everyone not named Denny Hocking or Pat Meares in that era shouldn't be assumed to be a non user. You know what, I am sick of this argument, McGriff's physical appearance at his opening, looked the same as his closing. I'll role my dice with that. F' the naysayers!
  2. The Ghost of Vodka Dave has become a company man now. You are now rendered useless to your cohorts. McGriff is deserving and I'd like you to name comparable 1B from the era that are HOF worthy? Steroids??? Please.
  3. The Duke of Flatbush.... What???
  4. Hey Thrylos. I do not know much about this subject other than what I typed (other than I knew Molitor was a user). What is the story on the cocaine thing?
  5. Dale Murphy was indeed prime time. His last 5-6 years were awful and I think that left an impression. Sometimes your last impression is the one people remember... the voters most importantly. If he gets in someday, I would not be opposed.
  6. I am of the thought that Dave Parker should be in the HOF. I have read in some places that he was involved with cocaine in the late 70's, early 80's and that had lead to his non-inclusion. If that is the case - shame on the voters. The Cobra was great!
  7. 2 different kinds of animals. I think Dawson is better (MVP, more of an impact player), but Crime Dog should be in no buts about it. McGriff was sneaky and steady in putting up his career statistics, but was great none the less!
  8. If I was an HOF voter, I would ignore Bonds, McGwire, Palmeiro, and Sosa's offensive output when analyzing and coming to a conclusion on where Crime Dog stood as a candidate for the HOF. I am of the belief that McGriff is not a first or second ballot HOFer, but should get in before the conclusion of his eligibility, whether that be 3 years or 15 years. The sad thing to me is that McGriff is entering his 3rd year on the ballot and his percentage of votes dropped from 20.5% to 17.9% between his 1st and 2nd years of eligibility. Damn, those percentages were not good to begin with. I hope the HOF voters come around on the McGriff equation.
  9. Since the Crime Dog retired from baseball, all I have heard from professional commentators is that Fred McGriff will not get inducted to the Hall of Fame. At first I somewhat agreed with them, but after a while it was hard to not be impressed by 493 HR's, almost 2,500 hits, 1,500+ RBI's, and a lifetime OPS of .886. Even though McGriff Played in the "Steroids Era", his body never changed, he remained a lanky, tall player through the duration of his career. I feel confident in saying Crime Dog was not a cheat. McGriff never won a Gold Glove, but I do remember him being a very good defensive first baseman and he was a key contributor to the highly successful ATL Braves of the mid-90's. (1995 WS Championship included) I am now of sound mind that Fred "Crime Dog" McGriff should be a member of the Hall of Fame. How about you?
  10. One thing for sure is Chris Kluwe is definitely a character. His letter was passion charged, witty and of course very profane. I have no problem with it as that is the criteria that brings me enjoyment with the written word and of course I share the same belief on the same sex marriage issue with Kluwe. If I was to have any issues with it, it would be a scenario where his letter had an impact on a voter who was on the fence, trying to juggle their religious morality with their social/human rights responsibility and chose the former, rather than the latter because of his letter to Emmett Burns Jr. Other than that... Chris Kluwe - Great Job!!!
  11. I don't see it. Trevor seems to always have a smile on his face and joking with the fellas when in the dugout. When he strikes out or makes an error he always appears to be disgusted with himself. These traits seem to indicate to me that he is not arrogant, but trying his best to succeed and be a good teammate.
  12. Ben, how the heck did you get that through security? Can I touch it?
  13. Don't Break my heart, my achy breaky heart....
  14. I never check out from Twins baseball... let alone baseball as a whole. There is as always some facet than can elicit an interest of some kind. What I can attest to - I certainly have no interest in NFL Football - the game where rapists, murderers and wife beaters hold court. I had my fill with Mark Chmura, Rae Carruth and Ray Lewis - GAME OVER! Other than that - I will go tend to the garden, hold my wife's hand, or plant some perennials for the upcoming year!
  15. After 2:00pm Wednesday, I stopped taking names and sent out the petition. To all of those who missed the deadline and responded - we appreciate your support with this thing and your passion will send good energy into getting a response from Terry Ryan. After John Shippley's Q&A with Ryan, I was not so sure that this petition should be thrown out there. But, too many people responded with great passion and if I blew off the whole thing, I thought it might look and be cowardly to do as such. The petition is out their and we will see if there is an answer. If not - this was an enjoyable experience. It was a nice change to see some unity, cameraderie and solidarity on this site. We'll see what happens!
  16. I think I have this thing figured out. Slama requested that the Twins not call him up as he excepted the title role in the Charles Bronson motion picture biopic. I can't wait!
  17. I guess the good thing about Hicks is that he has had good seasons in the minors and made some progress. 2011 was tough at Ft. Myers, but he was excellent in the AFL. BJ Garbe on the other hand, never had a good season or showed any progress in the minors.
  18. Puckett would have had to average roughly 140 hits per season from 1996-2000 to reach 3,000, very doable as his lowest hit total for a season was the strike shortened 1994 (139 hits). After Molitor retired, I bet Puckett would have been the full time DH in 1999 & 2000. The 1996-2000 season were very big offensively (PED's aside). I would not be shocked if Puckett would have hit 30 HR's a couple of more times to go with his 1986 season. In 1996, Molitor and Knoblauch hit .340 plus - what kind of season could Puckett have had that year? It could have been a a career year for Puck. Who knows - last I checked crystal balls don't exist. I will admit that if Puckett was first eligible for HOF candidacy in 2012, it would take him 2-3 years to get in. These days metrics have replaced memories and passion - maybe all together human emotion. Not that I am complaining, It was the reason Blyleven was inducted.
  19. I wouldn't know. During my grade 9-12 years I was home schooled by my crazy great uncle who collected porceline dolls and antique blow torches.
  20. When we eventually lose Slama - these will be my parting words for him: "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."
  21. I wouldn't be surprised if the G-Man is top 10 in HR's among Third basemen In MLB history.
  22. "Baseball Stars" was intriguing, but none of the fellas around the hood owned it. One of my buddies borrowed it from his cousin for a month or so and it was pretty cool. It seemed like a game you needed to dig into for a few months to really get into the thick of things. Last week my friend who borrowed "Baseball Stars" entered a fast food restaurant. Just ahead of him, two men got into an argument. One of them pulled a knife. My friend who would always make the best peace tried to break it up. He was stabbed in the throat. He died almost instantly. Although I haven't seen him in more than ten years I know I'll miss him forever... I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. …does anybody?
  23. Yeah, I forgot about the substitution dealio. I am not sure if I ever used Lombardozzi because of it.
  24. That was R.B.I., but it was the 2nd one. It had all the teams and was based on the 1989 season. This game was equally as awesome and Eck was the best pitcher on this video game... believe me, I used the A's quite a bit!
  25. I think that was "Baseball Stars" where you could create and develop a player. Don't quote me on that - it has been a long time. The original R.B.I. was MLB players only and with a few franchise teams and the NL and AL All-Star Squads.
