  1. ...or Plouffe is a guy we can count on for manning the 3B position. Everyone wants to play arm chair GM and get rid of players they do not deem fit. Plouffe is fit and there is no reason he cannot improve on last season's output. I believe Plouffe will probably have a somewhat better offensive season than last and be status quo defensively, and maybe better. His defensive output was more than acceptable last season Why trade a guy who can be offensively viable and the same defense wise, when your next option is a guy who at the AA level batted .235, hit a **** load of HR's and played a mediocre 3B.. and that was 2013. Now don't get me wrong, Sano is a great prospect, and I believe he will hit like a MoFo, at least HR's, but I do not believe he will ever man 3B for the Twins. With his lost 2014 season he is a ways off. Plouffe is probably the long term answer, but so many of the posters hate on this guy. I just don't get it. Plouffe is not the second coming of Mike Schmidt and neither is Sano. The Red Sox just paid almost 100M for an overweight 3B Who hit 16HR's last season with a middling Batting Average and above average defense - which has fluctuated some. Plouffe might be the answer, he is 28, but these days it takes some folks time to develop, give him a chance this next season. I bet Plouffe will be better and he is a solution to the problem, rather than a question mark.
  2. Yep, well deserved.
  3. Personally I hope Oliva gets in, not because I believe he should be, but because it seems like he really, really wants it... desperately. How could I root against him? That would seem like a dick move. Oliva is definitely a Twins Baseball HOFer, but he is not a National Baseball HOFer. Maybe if he didn't hurt his knee(s), the HOF induction might be in play, but that is probably a stretch also. Great player for half a dozen seasons, very good player overall. No matter what happens Tony, we all love ya!
  4. I was caught off guard when I heard the news that Vavra was named bench coach, I certainly did not see that coming. Stohs and others have said a lot of good things about the guy and that he would stay in the org in some kind of capacity. They can't all be wrong, can they? I am going to buy into this move, the Twins must really value his baseball acumen/intelligence and I would have to believe that Molitor did indeed want Vavra on board his staff. I am a Molitor backer so I'm going to be chill with this move. We could all argue the rest of our lives over the last two months of coaching upheavals and hirings. Sort of seems like a waste of time, but then again, that is probably one the important features of this site. Anyways, I hope it turns out for the best.
  5. That's the word on the street, but It very, very limited. It will only be playing at the AMC at Southdale tomorrow. http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-force-awakens-tease-theater-list
  6. With all due respect on this matter Chief, I think you are in the wrong. We need a new dungeon master in on this matter and I have all of my twenty sided die waxed up and ready to tumble.
  7. To start out, I am not advocating for the Twins to trade for Matt Kemp, this thread is meant for conversation/debate/whatever. It has been mentioned on this site numerous times in the last month or so about the Twins trying to trade for Matt Kemp. What would it take? This trade scenario between the Twins and Dodgers could come in all shapes and forms. Do the Twins take on his contract and give up lesser prospects? Do the Twins take on a portion of his salary and give up decent pieces (major or minor league) to make Matt Kemp a Twin? I like Matt Kemp, He is a very good player. I liked his bounce back this year after 1.5 seasons lost due to injury, he can definitely be a dynamic player, maybe he even he has a superstar season or two left in his tank offensively... one can never tell. Kemp does come with some baggage - he is not a centerfielder anymore, but from what I have read, he seems to be reluctant to move to a corner OF position and he is at this point in time an injury concern, maybe the injuries will not play a part going forward, but it definitely has to weigh on the minds of the party considering acquiring him. Matt Kemp can be a difference maker, but I would not be willing to give up Buxton, Sano or even Berrios to acquire him. I do however see Kemp as a semi-buy low player right now, I don't know what that would take prospect or player wise, but I definitely would send out some inquiries. What do you Twins Daily members think?
  8. I am of the opinion that Wily Mo Pena would be better off sticking in the Nippon League. Sure, the language and cultural differences are maybe a bit more difficult in Japan v. the US, of this I am not too sure because Pena is a DR Republic Citizen, but money is money. Pena has had his chances in the MLB and they have not worked out too well. I have to believe Matt Murton, Wladimir Balentien, Brad Eldred and others are staying put because they are aware of this. Pena will fail in the MLB. Go make your 1-2 million per season in Nippon for the next 3-4 years, retire and have a good retirement. Damn, I wish I had this opportunity.
  9. Rick did get results from the very talented Santana, but the very talented Liriano was a different kind of animal. We received 2 good years out him in his tenure with the Twins, that's what? - 2 good years out of 6. I do not view Anderson as some kind of pariah or a nincompoop, but after a while the crackers get stale and you need to throw them away and buy a new box. A crispy new cracker is always better in the long run, especially if you are dipping them into your soup, and it is eventual this box, if not finished will get stale, and we will have to buy a new one. I prefer to not protect stale crackers as I prefer new, crispy, fresh ones.
  10. I was cool with both finalist - But Allen is more of an exciting choice and a guy who has never done it at the major league level as a coach, those kind of hires can be fun sometimes. It sounds like he has paid his dues and deserves this position. I feel that most who participate on this site have admired the Rays Organization from afar the last half dozen years and it is good to hire a guy from an operation like that. The Rays have lost a lot early into this offseason - to bad for them - hopefully our gain.
  11. Agreed Jokin. The Abreu signing could not have gone better and the Eaton trade in my opinion will only get better. Sale is one of the best starting pitchers in baseball, Quintana is no slouch either, and Rodon looks like he is just about ready to spread his disease to MLB. I like Nick Gordon and I can only hope he will become a very good player for the Twins, but in the back of my mind I wish we sucked a little more in 2013 to have had the chance to draft Rodon. I do believe Abreu is a candidate for regression, but that is guess. It's not like he will fall off the face of the earth with his production if that is the case - worst case scenario - 26HR, .820OPS. The White Sox are a better team right now for certain. The Twins have a better stash of high end prospects in the minor leagues and the Sux do not have that. I expect the White Sox will be better than us for a season or two, but if the Twins can develop or acquire a #1 type of starter, we should surpass them, but then again Rodon has the upside to be a #1 starter. Staring down the barrel of Sale and a talent realized Rodon could be a daunting task, and Jerry Reinsdorf is a little more liberal with his money than the Pohlads. F@#k, I just bummed myself out. Oh yeah, I think LaRoche will be a 30HR guy in that ballpark with 40 not being out of the realm of posibility.
  12. I think Carl Willis is still in play.
  13. Sorry about petering out on this response last evening. For me, I would pass on Rasmus, especially if he gets 2 years and 20M. Because there are not many alternatives out there, like you have said (maybe Alex Rios..blah), I would take my chances with a LF combo of Hicks, Schafer, Rosario. None of these are very attractive options, but I cannot justify giving Rasmus the 2 years and the money. Chances are, that Hicks, Schafer and Rosario with play acceptable defense and Rasmus will do the same and chances are they will all be a detriment to our offense. There are no good answers this offseason for an OF acquisition except for Bourjos, the Twins should strongly push for that and make it happen. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.
  14. Yasmany Tomas would be a start, coupled with Bourjos. If it were a season later my ideas would be different, but that is not the case. I need to crash - I will dream on it and get back to you.
  15. I am guessing from your point of view they would both be starting - Rasmus in LF, and Bourjos in CF. Rasmus made 7M last season, although I do not like his production as a player, if you could get him for 8-9M for one season, maybe with some incentives? Maybe it would be worth the risk for the Twins, for me, not so much. Peter Bourjos would be much more cost effective and you are going to get elite defense from him. It's not my money and really not a focus of my interest (salary). As you have written on other posts, we should expect regression from Santana and Vargas, and I agree with you 100%. But what if we sign Rasmus, trade for Bourjos, and they along with Santana and Vargas stink up the joint offensively - next years team could really be screwed.
  16. I have no idea what you would have to give up to get Bourjos, but if it is lesser than, let's say, Eddie Rosario, sure, take a stab at it. I really have no clue on what Bourjos' trade value is, please cut me some slack on this one. What I would hate to see, is the Twins signing Colby Rasmus. I think that would be flushing money down the toilet. You never know, he might have a lucky BABIP season and hit 16HR's and bat .270, with a .750OPS, but it is not worth the risk in my opinion. Hell, before I would sign Rasmus, I'd give Rick Ankiel a phone call and see if he would want to come out of retirement and give it another try in a Twins uniform. I seriously believe their production would be very comparable. That should pretty much sum up what I think about Rasmus.
  17. On further evaluation of this post, I have concluded that words that have been put in bold amount to a teenage 1980's hip hop group and their hit single, which is about spiking the punch at a high school dance with vodka. Hunch Lunch Bunch "Punch" DefJam Recordings (1987)
  18. I'd be pretty thrilled if we were able to swing a deal for Kemp. For the past few months I have seen Kemp being mentioned as an acquirable piece. I have read that kind of stuff on a handful sites, but is it really in the best interest of the Dodgers to trade him? He had a good offensive year last year, but it is apparent he needs to be a corner outfielder moving forward. I look at the Dodger's roster and it appears that they need his offense. Ethier is pretty much done with, Crawford is an injury risk and not the player he once was, and Joc Pederson, although a handsome prospect, has not proven anything at the mlb level. His numbers in the PCL look awesome, but that is the PCL - a very outrageous offense up the keishter league. But the evaluators I am sure value him on his skill set and makeup and not the numbers he has put up in Albuquerque. I understand that Kemp is easily the most movable player out of himself, Ethier or Crawford. But, dang, don't you think that would be a huge risk for the Dodgers to lose his offensive production?
  19. Good one Jokin. Come to think of it, I did not eat lunch yesterday. You might be on to something.
  20. I did see that. First and foremost, there are a lot of people who have been severely injured, died, and have lost members of their family and friends because of an outside entity that was drinking and driving. For these people I feel their grief and anger about this kind of situation. But, there is another side of the coin to that. People make mistakes, especially when they are young. I will admit, that I too have made this same mistake in my early twenties. I'm not proud of it and I am greatful no one was hurt because of it. It is, unfortunately, a learning curve of life in my estimation. Mistakes get made and we need to alter our lives to never make these kind of mistakes again... aka learn from our shortcomings. I assume Taveras and his girlfriend were out partying and they payed the ultimate price. It is my opinion that everyone knows the dangers of drinking and driving, and since no innocent bystanders were involved, it is best to remember the good things about these individuals, instead of lecturing dead people and keeping the wound of tragic loss for their family wide open. That is just adding insult to injury. I hope that is why there was no commentary on this until this point in time.
  21. I'm right there with you Chief. I have had the same ache in my gut.
  22. Cool heads prevail my friends! Mauer's contract is a reality of life. We need to get busy living or get busy dying over that subject. Either way, It will not fill the empty void, sooth our souls, or buy us dinner tomorrow. Let's be friends and throw it in the trash can.
  23. I don't think this would factor into the Cardinals mindset at all. The Cardinals are going to get the best player they can get to play RF. They will not avoid getting a latin american player to fill their RF void because Taveras died. I am sure that there are stark differences between the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Ethnically, culturally, etc., etc... I bet the way each country speaks spanish is a little bit different, just like English is between the US, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and whatnot. I guarantee the Cards will honor Taveras next year with a ceremony or something like that, but finding an everyday Rightfielder will have nothing to do with a player's race, citizenship or cultural background.
