  1. It is no surprise. It is pretty much what everyone predicted. The last half of the contact might be a burden, but I expect Lester will do pretty well the next few seasons, especially pitching in the NL. Good for the Cubs.
  2. Having grown up in areas of the city that are designated for the poor (White, African Americans, Hispanics, Hmong, etc.) I am not too sure this is an issue worth getting bent over. There are much bigger fish to fry than this one. Also, football and basketball are much more popular sports in Urban America. I wish people with the power to make some change would invest their time and procure the resources to start the process of offering people in this position a chance at a better life, hard work will be needed on the recipient's part, but an opportunity is what people need and I believe we all as a human collective rise to that occasion if it is presented to us. Being without hope is an awful way to live your life and it has a very negative outcome on our society as a whole (gangs, violence, assault, robbery, etc.). **** baseball. Who cares what race of people plays baseball. It is the least of our problems. Baseball will do just fine with or without a race of human beings. Changing the social structures of our society and providing assistance in the form of hope and opportunity could probably have a great effect on the inclusiveness of everyone in every area of life. I apologize for putting this post out there, but I am sick and tired of reading topics like "Why don't African Americans play baseball anymore?" It is insulting, and a piss poor method of journalism. My advice to the journalist, go out there and live it, make friends with it, and most importantly understand it.
  3. I would imagine that most posters on this site would be pleased with the statistical outcome you have predicted. Saying that - I think a lot of us, deep down inside, hope for a little bit more than that. We have seen greatness out of Joe Mauer and I don't think he is too old to conjur up some of that greatness again, unless the injuries he has sustained over the years have permanently eradicated some of his physical prowess. I can accept good, but greatness is obviously better. I don't know if his down performance in the 2014 season was the result of his concussion in 2013, injuries, or defensive shifts... maybe it is a culmination of all three. If it is the result of the shifts and I feel that is at least a small part of the problem, I hope he watches game video from 2014 and makes some adjustments in his approach that will not make him as susceptible to fall prey to the defensive shifts. I still believe in Joe and I hope for him the best, but I always, always prepare for the worse... It sucks to be disappointed.
  4. Jokin, did you mean to respond to my post? I was only commenting on MLB's rules of trading a draft pick and making them a PTBNL before they have one year in. I don't know much of anything about Beede.
  5. It certainly could be that MLB changed the rules since the Ubaldo Jimenez trade from the Rockies to the Indians 3-ish years go, but wasn't Drew Pomeranz involved in this exact situation? If the rules have not changed, then I believe Beede could a PTBNL.
  6. On paper a deal like this might look good. The guy I would pick out of the 3 you mentioned is Tyson Ross, as he would come with the same year wise amount of control that Plouffe comes with and that is important, especially if you are giving up an extra piece to acquire him and Plouffe's value, at least to me, is substantial. Ross strikes out guys at a good clip, but he also likes to give up some BB. I'm a no go on Cashner and Kennedy. I'm not in on Kennedy because he is probably a one and done for the Twins as he is a FA after the 2015 season. Sure it is possible we could sign him after this upcoming season, but to exchange Plouffe and a prospect for a one year rental makes my left eye twitch a little bit, probably a sign of stroke I have to look forward to. Cashner has an injury history, with one year of pitching over 124 innings at the age of 27. That trade does not seem like a fit either. My problem with the three is the environment they pitch in half of the time. Petco is a cavernous graveyard for hitters. The Park is Big, plays big, and the marine environment kills well hit balls hit in the air. I would expect some regression from these 3 pitchers switching from the NL to AL, and I am good with that, but I just can't trust what I see on the stat sheet from these guys given the park and environment they play in 50% of the time.
  7. I'm not sure I can or want to answer that question as I believe that Plouffe is our future 3B. I do not believe that Sano will be a third baseman. I certainly could be wrong on this, but I am gonna ride it out and stick to that belief. As for July v. Now, I couldn't tell ya, but maybe I'll try. I have not done my research... contending teams that might need a 3B mid season 2015. At this point - Obviously SF... after that the Angels, Dodgers, KC (maybe), White Sox, Cleveland, Yanks, Braves, DC (if Rendon plays 2B). It is too early in the offseason to forecast the trade scenarios and what we could get right now v. next summer as most FA and trade moves have yet to take place this offseason. I will say this - I want a lot for Plouffe in a trade. I want a top 75 prospect and a few B prospects... something like that... maybe more.
  8. I wouldn't do the deal, but I am biased. I think most would be thrilled on this site if that happened. Would it be a rough equivalent of the Meyer/Span Trade - I am not sure I have the expertise to make that claim.
  9. Jokin, in an unrealistic way, I am Plouffe's biggest fan and I will be the poster who demands all of the riches of the world for another team to acquire Plouffe from the Twins. I do believe, that most on this site under value Plouffe, or straight up don't like him. Trevor was one of our 2 best position players last season and he improved a great deal defensively. The last few years have been pretty down offensively in MLB all around... but those kind of things ebb and flow. Who knows offense might be up next season and Plouffe hits 20+ HR's with improved offensive and defensive stats. Crick is a fair starting point.
  10. I'm not too keen on the idea. Kyle Crick is a necessary component. What else do we get?
  11. I don't know, I thought you and Chief were pretty funny... especially for old dudes.
  12. Agreed. I am not a fan of watching train wrecks and this definitely would be classified a train wreck. I wish I had the ability to explain the look Terry Ryan had on his face when the press conference concluded. It looked like he had the worst case of constipation in the history of mankind and it looked like his face was shriveling up while his cranium was about to explode. That is the best I can do, you should watch it.
  13. It was definitely serious. He said it multiple times and when the press conference ended he accused Berardino of ruining the press conference. If Berardino wanted to get Hunter's goat he certainly did that and Torii's reaction was disappointing to say the least. Even I felt awkward and dirty. I don't know if it was the right or wrong thing to do on Berardino's side (that's his job, I guess), but it was an epic fail on Hunter's part. I regret watching that press conference - what a crappy way to start things off.
  14. Lonestar, it is very probable that Sano will not sniff the big leagues this season. He just lost a season, and the last level he played in (AA New Britain), he hit .235. He has a lot of work to do still. Maybe the end of 2015 will be his ETA, but 2016 is more likely. TJ surgery is not as hard on a position player as it is on a pitcher, but he still has to make adjustments and get comfortable again. In my opinion he plays most of the season at AA.
  15. To over pay him and make sure he did not go to the Rangers I am guessing? The Twins must have really, really wanted him.
  16. With this signing it is imperative that the Twins do everything in their power to acquire Bourjos right now - they should have done it yesterday, because Hunter will be an everyday player for the most part (550-600PA's if healthy).
  17. Ahhh... the Prodigal Son returns. I can't wait to see him hit .265, with 13HR's and playing substandard RF... but... ...that is too negative - although a lot of us feel Hunter has his personality flaws and the media blows out of proportion his good guy/awesome clubhouse presence bit - I do think this could be of some benefit to the younger players. Although he is no longer an elite defensive player, let alone an average one at that - I do think he can be a good teacher and lend some good advice to our young outfielders and other players as well. Even though he cannot do the things he once did as an outfielder, mentally his vision should not have deteriorated, he has knowledge to share, he might be like an extra coach? Who knows - maybe he will hit 20HR's, have a .780OPS, get by in the outfield and be a good part of congealing this group of young players into a unit that is ready to make the attack in 2016, maybe we can even play .500 ball this season. I'm gonna roll the dice optimistically today. Worse moves could have been made.
  18. I'm a big fan of Kaat. He is my favorite person to listen to or watch talk about the game, especially when he and Costas team up. The guy is as good behind the mic as he was on the field and obviously his career stats are definitely worth a very healthy argument if not more. To me he is a National Baseball HOFer. His overall contribution to the game surpasses more than a few that in are already in the Hall. I know that is not how it works, but I don't give a rat's behind, get him in there. Sometimes you have to make exceptions. I hope he gets in.
  19. This trade looks to be in the favor of the Bluejays upon first glimpse, but Beane might have some blueprint for this move. I will take a guess and he is going to trade Shark or Kasmir for more prospects. This might be the end of the A's couple year run and Beane took some high risk chances last season and feels the itch to push the restart button. Maybe the writing is on the wall through his spectacles and he thinks it is time to build a new model. He definitely gained some depth with the starting pitchers he acquired and the SS has some upside in the distant future. Brett Lawrie, if he can stay healthy, has a chance to be an impact player. This trade to me, is a semi-kind of surrender, but I think the A's can still have a chance next year, probably not, but maybe. For the Bluejays, they certainly have acquired a player in Donaldson who is on the cusp of elite, but this does not fill any holes for them, they still need a second baseman. Lawrie was slated to either play 2B or 3B, now that he is gone - the Bluejays are still in the same position they were in before this trade, but with less SP depth, but one has to imagine that Anthoupolos has a plan also, but now it is narrowed down to 2B and a starting pitcher. We'll see what happens, but both of these teams do not thrill me. It is a noteworthy trade that will in the end not have a lasting effect on both ball clubs.
  20. Here is the trailer. http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/lucasfilm/starwarstheforceawakens/
  21. It's no secret I am a big Plouffe backer and I have doubts about Sano as a third baseman. Will he play a poor 3B for a couple of years, and move to a different position, or never play 3B at all? I definitely could be wrong, and I certainly have been wrong my share of times, but I have been right a fair amount in my life travels. Saying this, I would not give Plouffe an extension this off season. I need to see another campaign of him playing well at the hot corner and building off of what he did in the 2014 season. I believe in the guy, but seeing is believing and if he has another good or maybe even very good season, I would try to get a deal done - and a bonus to that, is we get to see where Sano's progression is as a third baseman and to overall see where he stands developmental wise and where his likely destination is on the field in 2015. All I know is that Plouffe is not an Outfielder and holding on to that hope is fruitless. The Twins said that a few years ago, not me, and I am buying into that. There are so many questions about Sano's destination as a fielder and Plouffe really had a good year in 2014. Plouffe appeared to be more confident and his defense improved leaps and bounds. Sano will definitely be a Power Hitting presence in the Twins line-up in the not so distant future, but he is still valuable as corner outfielder rather than 3B if Plouffe proves he is the real deal... power is at a premium these days, actually Plouffe could be a 20+ HR hitter... let's see how next season pans out. Oh yeh, and besides that a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
  22. (Singing this) Plouffe is the answer and you know that for sure Plouffe is surrender, you got to let it, you got to let it go. ...and let him be the third baseman of the Twins now and in the future, I like playing the Plouffe games.
  23. Like others have mentioned, I am surprised to see DeShields available in the rule 5 draft. I am in agreement with you on your take on this Jokin. I also think that DeShields could really learn a lot from Molitor - with his skill set, I think he is right up Molitor's alley. The more I think about it, if he is available when the Twins pick, they should definitely scoop him up and deal with the probable negative consequences this would cause for the 2015 season. It's a gamble I would take given the Twins current situation.
