  1. You're forgetting about Arcia, and he may be the best of all.
  2. It's Bobby Cuellar time! Can you say Circle-Change? Tie the two together at the hip.
  3. If Eddie could have Pedroia-like numbers in the show, I'd be ecstatic! Perfect for the #2 slot behind Buxton, and ahead of Arcia (or Mauer).
  4. If I was mean like most of you, I'd say the 3 Stooges. But instead I'll say: The Zephyrs The Sonic Boom The Speed of Light The X-15's The Falcon, The Cheetah and the Gazelle
  5. How'd we score? - No access to radio
  6. You are missing Danny Thompson who was drafted in the 1st round in 1968 (#16 overall). He has the second most games as a shortstop by a player drafted by the Twins - 630 games over 7 seasons (although in 1970 he filled in at 2B when Carew went down). The only other starting shortstop the Twins have drafted was Pat Meares who played in 742 games over 6 seasons with the Twins. He was drafted in the 12th round. As was stated Plouffe is next in number of games and fourth place belongs to Brian Dozier as a Twins draft choice to play at short. The Twins have NEVER drafted quality shortstops in their entire history. All their best shortstops have come via trades - Smalley, Gagne, Guzman even Cardenas. Zoilo Versalles was signed by the Twins before the draft came about.
  7. May, Meyer, Barios plus Gibson and Worley. Is everyone's mouth watering? That's got to be the best Twins rotation - EVER - if they all live up to the hype (and I hope they do!)
  8. The question is does our draft pool money go up in 2014 if we don't sign him in 2013? If so, draft him, offer him slot and if he doesn't accept, let him play for the Saints and become a free agent. If not, hope that Manaea or Stanek drop to us.
  9. Really - Lew Ford over Disco Dan Ford ('75-'78)? I don't think so. Did Lew ever hit 20 homers or drive in 80 as a Twin. I'd have cheated with Walter Johnson, he is a part of the franchise (although not a Twin) and his WAR is off the charts.
  10. I'd stay away from Appel, Boris is a bloodsucker, besides Manaea is a lefty, and that's something we're short on in starters. Hadn't realized that Parmelee was a Boris guy. By the by, the only reason Boris had Pelfrey sign here was on specific instructions from Pelfrey. Apparently his wife has family here and he told Boris to get him a contract with the Twins.
  11. Any thought on Perez's chances of making the opening day roster?
  12. According to Zulgad/Mackey Perez's agent requested that they consider him for a starting spot. His splits appear to be balanced righty/lefty wise unlike Duensing.
  13. I still don't understand anyone's infatuation with Florimon. Dozier was no worse than Florimon if you look a the stats. Florimon had about half the number of errors that Dozier had in a little less than half the chances. He did make some great plays, but his errors tended to come on more routine plays. Dozier might not have the range that Florimon has, but I think he could be at least an average shortstop if given another chance, and his bat wil certainly be better than Florimon.
  14. Yeah - he ONLY hit 28 homers that year. I still have my Killlebrew mug from that season commemorating the 500th homer - they had to leave the date out because he hadn't hit it yet. They set the date for Killebrew mug night in August, expecting him to have hit it by then. The pressure going from 499 to 500 was hard on Harmon. But he did have no problems going from 500 to 501 - it was the same night. He still led the league in RBI's with 119 that year. I still love when Harmon was asked about steroids later in life - he was asked many times how many homers he would have hit if he took steroids. He would reply - "25 or 30" and when the questioner would ask "Why so few?", he'd reply - "Well you have to remember I'm in my 60's now. My favorite moments - Killer on the back end of a triple steal behind Sir Rodney and Pepi Tovar (1969). Also the game winning homer before the 1965 All-star game against the YANKEES ( AL champs of 1964) propelling the Twins to the AL championship.
  15. In '76 Tony-O was absolutely a player-coach. His knees were so bad by then that he really couldn't even DH. I believe that if you look at box scores, in a number of away games Mauch had Tony leading off as the 2B, he would bat and then be replaced in the bottom of the inning by a true second baseman. Other than that he pinch hit and DH'd only a couple of times. I believe he was either the hitting or bench coach and spent some time as first base coach. Under Mauch, the coaches took multiple duties. Mauch would even occasionally coach third base. I'm old, I know.
  16. Reid Brignac, recently DFA'd by Tampa plays all over 2B, SS, 3B and OF. Is he potential upgrade to Escobar? Is he worth a look?
  17. Pepi Tovar strikes out Reggie Jackson in his game that he played all 9 positions - HOF material and best #12 moment EVER!
  18. Any way you look at it - what a bench: Escobar, Carroll, Mastroianni and Herrmann (or more likely Butera). Isn't that inspiring. Zero power threat off the bench. My only hope is that Escobar doesn't make the team and we bring in at least someone who might get a pinch hit once in a moon. Mastroianni is a nice pinch runner, good on defense and a decent bench player - no problems there. Carroll will get his share of starts putting Dozier or Plouffe on the bench occasionally. Escobar and Butera are flat out not hitters, so don't count on either of them to pinch hit, and since we all know Butera's not going anywhere unless he gets injured, that leaves only the Escobar slot. I'd rather give Luke Hughes another shot. The only thing that could be worse is if they break camp with 13 pitchers and have a 3 man bench. Egad - Butera, Carroll and Mastroianni. On second thought maybe that wouldn't be so bad, it's basically the same bench.
  19. First all of Herbie's 1981 efforts are not in play - he was wearing #26 at the time. But you also have to give a nod to Pete MacKanin - last twins homer hit at the old Met.
  20. What shocked me coming from Ruesse was in the discussion he had with Mackey about the article. The one tidbit that surprised me was a statement about Arcia. I knew he had potential, but Ruesse said he had talked to several scouts who projected Arcia's potential to Albert Pujols. I couldn't believe that - now that would be a nice addition to the lineup.
  21. Floriman is a prototypical Twins shortstop - think Jackie Hernanadez, Lenny Feado and Sergio Ferrer, and dare I say Ron Washington (although he hit a little beter).
  22. Marcum is just way too selfish for TR - he doesn't use his fielders enough, strikes out way too many at 7.9K/9. It is the same amount as Pelfrey's base and only .5M less than Correia will make this year (he will make $4.5 this year, $5.5M next year). Boggles the mind. Same risk as Pelfrey, higher reward. Something's wrong somewhere with the FA signings by the Twins.
  23. Per Doogie's latest Scoops - The Twins will have a scout in Mexico on Saturday to watch Cuban prospects Dariel Alvarez (24-year-old outfielder) and Aledmys Diaz (22-year-old shortstop). The Twins had heavy interest in Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler before he signed with the Cubs in June. They also were interested in Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes before he signed with the A's last winter. Here's hoping!
  24. Marcum would definitely improve things for the Twins. But the Correia deal still sticks in the craw. They should have taken the $10M and gone aggressively after Carlos Villanueva for the same amount (what the Cubs got him for). He's an American League East pitcher who could be an asset in either the rotation or the bullpen. Marcum, Worley, Villanueva, Pelfrey and Harden would have made me feel a lot better.
  25. Hicks also pitched in HS and teams were considering drafting him as a pitcher, but he wanted to play everyday, not pitch. As I recall, he also had a mid-90's fastball, possibly a little higher.
