  1. I don't see anything wrong with moving Meyer and Buxton out of the MLB camp, particularly Buxton... A guy who probably won't see the MLB roster next spring. The Twins acquired a handful of starting pitchers this offseason and they have Gibson waiting to take the next available spot. Those guys need the ST innings with the big league club, not Meyer. The more roster clutter in the clubhouse, the less innings for the guys you need to make a decision on immediately. Less innings means less informed decisions come March 30th. While I doubt Gibson starts the season in the MLB rotation, have the Twins made any indication that they've eliminated him from the conversation? Honest question. I haven't seen them say much of anything about anything yet.
  2. Given the way Worley and Diamond have pitched thus far, it wouldn't surprise me if the Twins jettisoned one or both of them when they head north. Of course, it's only March 13th. They could still turn it around but right now, it doesn't look good for them.
  3. I'd put Johnson on the same level as Gibson, meaning that it will come down to individual performance. The Twins have no loyalty or necessity in promoting Johnson before Gibson, who has been a Twins guy since being drafted.
  4. I count Worley, Diamond, and Deduno... one of which will probably be cut out of Spring Training. So really, I count two guys before Gibson. One of those guys will get the fifth starting spot out of Spring Training. So there's one guy before Gibson. I have the feeling we'll see Kyle Gibson in Minnesota relatively soon.

  6. As Twins Daily covers Twins Spring Training from Ft Myers throughout March, we'll be posting video to our newly-minted YouTube Channel. We encourage you to sign up and get alerts as we post clips from player interviews. As a primer, here are several brief interviews from Seth Stohs, directly from the Twins locker room in Hammond Stadium in Ft Myers. 7. And how exactly is that different than now?
  8. As soon as we finalize plans for our Rockin' Jockin' Expo 2014 SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR, we're gonna hit Myspace with a vengeance.
  9. Mike later clarified his position on this post. Nothing to see here, let's drop it.
  10. The problem with the Twins lineup is that there aren't many good position players available. Really, there's Drew and that's about it (which is why I'd like to see them pursue him). I don't blame them for not pursuing a DH-type on a multi-year deal at this point. You're very wrong. Kubel will make $2m if he's on the Opening Day roster. He can earn another $1m in incentives. The Twins haven't had to overpay (at least, not vastly overpay) for the free agents they've acquired in recent years (though most have been bad). There's no reason to start doing so now.
  11. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TwinsDaily Seth has been posting a ton of great pictures from Ft Myers this spring. Twitter: We're live-tweeting many of the ST games for those of you away from a radio while at work. YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUksIQgrcv2hgbughOgsuAg We're starting to explore the use of more video content on Twins Daily, expect to see us post to this channel whenever we have the opportunity to do a quick interview or show a player in action this spring. Google+: https://plus.google.com/+Twinsdaily/ We're just getting going with this page but it will have a lot of the same stuff as we show on Facebook, should G+ be your social media of choice.
  12. I don't care one bit if the Twins make money or not. What I do care about is that one dollar spent today is one dollar that cannot be spent tomorrow. If we were talking one year deals without draft pick compensation, sure, spend that money like a trailer park lottery winner. But when you're committing money to 2015 and beyond, you should be doing a risk analysis on every acquisition.
  13. Yep and yep. I think Drew is a pretty decent gamble at the dollars he's likely to get. On the other hand, I won't throw a fit if the Twins don't agree. There are so many variables in the organization right now that I don't fault the Twins for playing it close to the vest and letting things play out before committing to a long-term deal.
  14. That's not my argument and you know it. I'm all for taking a flyer on Drew, though I won't scream if the organization doesn't agree. Santana is a question mark. Sure, he had a good season. He's also had his fair share of clunkers. He's not a guy I'd give four years, particularly with Gibson and Meyer on the way. There's a reason why no other team wanted to give him a four year deal. On a three year deal, sure, you try to grab that guy in a soft market. If he wants a one year make-good deal instead, well, nothing you can do about that.
  15. Because you don't like the guy that much. Santana is coming off what could easily be a career year for him. Just two years ago, he was a pretty awful pitcher. I don't see a reason to give that guy four years. There will be pitchers available next offseason should you need the help (and let's hope the Twins do not need the help). Lowball the guy, be happy if he accepts, don't look back if he doesn't. Take advantage of market inefficiencies, don't spend money just for the sake of spending money.
  16. The Twins handled the Santana and Garza situation correctly, IMO. Lowball them late in the offseason and if one bites, great. If not, that's fine. I think they should be focusing on offense at this point anyway. Hopefully they feel the same way.
  17. Good Lord. Just watched the last episode. One of the finest seasons of television I've ever had the privilege to witness.
  18. Hey Seth, what's the deal with Ryan Eades? I haven't heard anyone mention him this spring.
  19. My thoughts exactly. The Orioles have already given up picks, may as well push all the chips to the center of the table at this point. But the Jays? I don't get that at all.
  20. If Gibson looks great in ST, his stock doesn't change. If Gibson looks great in Rochester, his stock doesn't change much. If Gibson looks great in MLB early this season, then it doesn't make sense to trade him. I don't see a situation where it makes sense to trade Gibson. It makes far more sense to clear out the out of options players and trade Correia.
  21. Brian Duensing is the obvious guy to trade. (I'm so going to miss Duensing when he leaves)
  22. Trading Gibson would be a mistake. His stock is at an all-time low right now. It makes far more sense to just wave goodbye to Diamond, Worley, and Deduno and don't look back.
  23. More to the point, we don't know that the information was sourced from the Twins. In all likelihood, this source stemmed from the Santana camp because they have the motivation to release information about contract offers.
  24. As Levi has pointed out multiple times, the Mauer injury was a non-issue because he was replaced by Pinto, who absolutely raked for those six weeks. It's unlikely that Pinto will continue that torrid hitting streak in 2014. But a rebound from Willingham and advancement of Arcia are pretty good bets. Some of that will be offset by the "loss" of Doumit, though... Overall, it's hard to see this offense improve significantly unless we see breakouts from Plouffe, Parmelee, and Hicks.
  25. No, because we don't know if the source of the information is with the Twins. Santana and his agent have the most to gain by publicizing offers, especially in mid-March as desperation sets in to get him on the field.
