  1. Absolutely. That's my point, really.
  2. Then I get credit as well. I wanted to see the Twins acquire Hughes more than any other pitcher in baseball. We'll share credit, Dave. I get 51%, you get 49%.
  3. I think the NYY pitching staff is somewhat responsible for Hughes' struggles. No coaching staff in their right mind is going to allow a guy to drop and add a pitch on a whim and that's exactly what Hughes did from 2009-2013.
  4. It's not that our standards are so low, it's that Hughes has been that good. Following a very unlucky April (xFIP 3.69, ERA 5.14), he has an ERA just over 2 and an xFIP of ~3.25).
  5. If someone sees the agreement for Steele, be sure to post it here.
  6. Well, if we bash him for his failures of the past, it's only fair to congratulate for his successes. Most of the responsibility falls on the player throwing the ball but if we take a coach to task for players bombing out of baseball under his tutelage, he should get a pat on the back for struggling pitchers who turn into a fringe Cy Young candidate under his watch.
  7. And that's still a good comp, IMO. A guy who is serviceable with the occasional luck-driven year where he's really good.
  8. I checked MLB.com and the selection was pretty awful. Any section worth sitting in was missing from the options.
  9. I went with Ticket King. Hey, they sponsor the site. Give the guys over there some love.
  10. Most of us have been hard on Anderson and for good reason. Most of the Twins' starters have underperformed in the past 3+ seasons and the rotation has been dreadful. With that said, how much credit do you give Anderson for turning around Phil Hughes? Obviously, most of the credit goes to Phil because he's the one throwing the ball but I believe some credit should go to Rick for helping him establish consistency, change his approach, and stick with it. Hughes has spent the past 3-4 seasons changing his approach every few months and seeing mixed success. Now it appears that he found something that works and has stuck with it for the first 13 starts of the season. I've said that if there's one coach I would consider firing it's Anderson but I have to admit that he's done a phenomenal job with Hughes, a player with immense talent and not enough confidence in his stuff.
  11. Yeah, there are better stats than OBP that correlate to runs scored but it's still one of the better metrics to gauge a player's worth. Obviously, something like OPS would be even better and wOBA and wRC are even better than that. The more you combine statistics and the more complicated a metric becomes, the better correlation it has to runs scored. OBP is a one piece metric: OBP OPS is a two piece metric: OBP, SLG wOBA and wRC are complicated equations with several pieces.
  12. I generally dislike the calling out of players in the press. With that said, it may have been a last resort with Hicks in which case, it makes sense to do it. I'm neutral on the calling out of Hicks for that reason. I don't know what went on behind the scenes to lead up to that point. I find it unlikely that a player is frustrated that the team had too much confidence in him and gave him too much responsibility. On the other hand, it's not the player's responsibility to intelligently manage his progression. The player is almost always going to want to be at a higher level, a better spot in the batting order, etc. These are the best players in the world and they're hyper-competitive. It's the organization's duty to temper that competitive nature and do what's best for the long-term success of the player. The Twins did not do that with Hicks.
  13. I could have either spent more or used contacts to finagle something but I sat in John's seats a few weeks back and really liked them. Also, I'm cheap.
  14. Agreed fully. Even though Hicks is showing progress at the MLB level, some time in Rochester and out of the spotlight certainly won't hurt.
  15. Here's a pretty cool comment from our Facebook page: "Jose is such a hard worker. When I was his host mom in Elizabethton, he was always the first to bed and always up before I left for work eating his Fruit Loops. I say send him up! He has awesome control and I think he is mature enough for AA." https://www.facebook.com/TwinsDaily?ref_type=bookmark
  16. I find all of this really encouraging. Too many are down on Hicks. Being disappointed is certainly understandable but the kid's too young and too talented to be written off quite yet.
  17. Yep, just bought a pair a few rows from where Bonnes has his season tickets. I'm in a prime position to throw **** at him all game long.
  18. Anyone going? I'm looking into tickets but I'm not seeing the Futures Game anywhere. Is the Futures Game bundled into ASG tickets or are they sold separately? I have no interest in seeing the ASG but the Futures Game would be awesome. http://www.ticketkingonline.com/ResultsGeneral.aspx?stype=0&kwds=MLB%20All%20Star
  19. This. He's been one of the best overall players in baseball this season (and for a good chunk of last season as well).
  20. Right now, Brian Dozier is a better second baseman than Kinsler and it's not a particularly close comparison. Cano, eh... Dozier is a similar hitter but steals more bases and plays better defense. Brian has better than Robinson this year, though they're both in the conversation.
  21. Yikes. A risky proposition but one that could pay huge dividends.
  22. I accidentally read the comments on that article but doing so revealed this gem: "Kurt Suzuki's refusal to regress in a timely manner is hurting the future of this team." I LOLed.
  23. Boy, strikeouts sure come in handy at times.
