  1. Absolutely. Team wins and losses trump all... But starting pitcher win-loss records don't closely correspond to talent. Tony Fiore once went 10-3. Two years later, Johan went 16-7 and lost the Cy Young to an inferior pitcher who went 21-8. What do all those wins and losses mean? They mean the team won and lost games while that pitcher was on record. It doesn't mean that pitcher was better than the competition. If looked at in the aggregate, is there correlation? Absolutely. But individually, pitcher win-loss is far too volatile and dependent on other factors to mean much unless the pitcher is an extreme outlier (eg. a 3-20 pitcher is almost surely bad, a 20-3 pitcher is almost surely awesome).
  2. Given the huge decrease in offense, the QS - a stat I didn't like in the first place - seems more meaningless.
  3. Obviously. I mean, who can argue that? Grrrrrr...
  4. Right now, all profile information past your login and password is NOT carried over to the Vikings site. We've had some discussions about it and never reached a consensus. I think we'll let the users figure it out. If the majority of you want universal profiles, we can make that happen (probably). It'll take some creative coding on my part, though. The system isn't really built to do that but I'm sure I can make it work (sooner or later).
  5. I see you're really stretching your legs and expanding outside your comfort zone.
  6. He's doing both. We've worked out an arrangement for him to continue working with both sites. I'm super-excited to have him on board. He's a hell of a writer.
  7. Mauer sure has looked like the Joe Mauer of old since his return. Let's hope that's a sign of things to come and not a result of facing Astros pitching in Houston.
  8. Great entry. As always, hope springs eternal. At least the Wild are good, right? BTW, you should pop on over to Vikings Journal and start a blog over there. We're giving away pizzas to the first few bloggers on the site (provided you live in MN).
  9. It's really not... at all. There have been studies done that show any number of stats more closely relate to pitcher success than W-L. K/9 is a better indicator, for one.
  10. Meh. I always have and will continue to hold the torch for Bob Costas as MLB commissioner.
  11. Similar rules will apply to Vikings Journal. If we suffer decreased traffic just to hold the torch as "the sole provider of reasoned Vikings discussion", so be it. We're prepared to challenge fans and commenters to act like adults and given the response to it on Twins Daily, we think it'll work out just fine in the long run. RubeChat already exists. I say it's time for something different and in my opinion, better.
  12. Ah, good catch. I thought that seemed really odd. But anyway, I think it illustrates just how poorly most draftees fare in MLB. And in Trevor's defense, he's trending up that list. If he continues doing what he's doing, he'll be one of the better draft picks to come out of 2004. A solid, but unspectacular, choice.
  13. Trevor Plouffe has the 13st highest career WAR of the 2004 draft. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/index.cgi?draft_round=1&year_ID=2004&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round
  14. Interesting numbers. Thanks for the breakdown. I think we can take away from this that rebuilds take time. Few teams can flip their fortunes from awful to good in a single season.
  15. Scratch that, it doesn't work. Display names are universal.
  16. Do me a favor and play guinea pig... Use your Twins Daily account to log into Vikings Journal. Go to your profile on Vikings Journal and change your display name. See if it also changes on Twins Daily.
  17. Yep, yep, and yep. We wanted account integration and easy crossover between the sites but we didn't want it to feel as if they're one giant site with blurred lines.
  18. That will take time. I looked into it and it appears there is no way for me to submit a request on behalf of the site, which means we have to wait for it to be crawled...
  19. In case you haven't noticed links popping up over the past 24 hours, we're expanding into Vikings coverage. The site is live, though we're not promoting it outside Twins Daily until tomorrow morning. http://vikingsjournal.com You can log in using your Twins Daily credentials. Be sure to check out the articles published by MinnCentric's new Vikings team: Bo Mitchell, AJ Mansour, Arif Hasan, and Joe Oberle. They're all accomplished writers and will bring the same kind of coverage you get from Twins Daily to the Vikings world. Also, give our new Facebook page a like! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Vikings-Journal/828110553874365 Or our Twitter account... https://twitter.com/vikingsjournal If you have feedback, feel free to give it over on the Vikings Journal forums.
  20. I'm laying the blame for this one at your feet, Levi. This is what happens when you say the Twins aren't unlucky.
  21. I don't get it. It's fun to watch but I don't get it.
  22. I'm happy for Royals fans but I'm pulling hard for Oakland this year. Beane needs a ring.
  23. Not a bug, a feature I haven't had time to add yet. Calculating totals isn't something this software has baked into it by default so I'll need to write custom SQL queries to make it work and that'll take some time.
  24. I think there's a very good chance Ryan goes after a stop-gap CF this offseason.
