  1. In case you haven't seen it today, Northern Pitch broke a MONSTER story overnight: http://northernpitch.com/_/minnesota-soccer-news/american-soccer/minnesota-united-fc-appears-strong-mls-favorite-with-outdoor-stadium-bid-r51
  2. By creating an account, you have access to the NP user blogs. We absolutely encourage you to write about the Bundesliga and we'd love to read about it. The more world coverage we have on the site, the better. We promote many of the blogs to the front page of the sites. http://northernpitch.com/blogs/
  3. Testing. Testing. Two spaces is wrong! Testing. Testing. One space is right!
  4. Okay, I believe this is now fixed. You may have to clear your browser cache to get the fix (or just wait for the cache to expire on its own). Please let me know if you see any other issues pop up with the RTE. To enable this fix, I disabled a plugin in the editor and god only knows what BS that will cause in my never-ending game of "RTE bug whack-a-mole".
  5. Well, in the case of the Wild, it was really helpful because it wasn't automatically unblocked... I had to take action to get that site cleared (and thankfully, I had some friends in high places at Cisco).
  6. The site should have a fair amount of EPL coverage. We're just getting our feet under us but expect a lot of non-Minnesota soccer coverage over at NP.
  7. Oh, brother. This again. *bangs face on desk* Mike, keep me updated on this... It probably has to clear whitelists but unlike Wild Xtra, it shouldn't be auto-blocked because it has the word "Wild" in the URL.
  8. Basketball is my second sport behind baseball. Trust me, we're going to cover the Wolves soon.
  9. It's kind of a pipe dream but I'm hoping that Nolasco pitches well enough that the Twins can trade him. That's the best case scenario, in my opinion.
  10. Carlos Gomez has to come back on a Twins reunion tour before we can consider Span. There's a natural order to these things.
  11. I just saw that. Bummer. The guy needs a good year going into free agency and I've always liked Span.
  12. Okay, we'll just have to disagree here but... When is the last time we saw a 5 WAR player sign a contract that doesn't buy out FA years with guaranteed money but gives the team two options? I can't recall it happening. One guaranteed year buyout with one team option, yeah... but I can't remember any deals with only two team options. That in itself says a lot about whether Dozier would accept that deal. You brought up Span, which only strengthens my point. My memory is hazy here and I could be wrong but I'm almost positive Span signed a contract that bought out one FA year with one team option year after that.
  13. Agreed. To be clear, I have never been a Herrmann fan... Just pointing out that if he can hit, he's an intriguing bench option.
  14. .675 would be a minimum, for sure. A lot hinges on what the Twins plan on doing with Josmil Pinto. If the Twins want Pinto insurance or they don't want Pinto behind the plate at all - the latter being a mistake, IMO - then having Herrmann on the 25 man makes some sense.
  15. My opinion is that if Herrmann can OPS at .675, he's an interesting option. That may be a stretch in today's game, though.
  16. I think they're trying to figure out if he's a decent 24th or 25th man option. It's not a bad idea, really... Herrmann is an interesting flex candidate, provided he can hit at all.

  18. Let's just run with this thread for today because yesterday's thread got so few replies.
  19. Nope. And rightfully so, IMO. While Anderson obviously did a good job with Hughes, he burned so many bridges with his dogmatic approach to pitching that faith in his coaching was non-existent in some circles. I think both you and Thrylos have a point here... The changeup is a minimally invasive pitch but it's also a feel pitch. Which, to me, makes this a good experiment. If Hughes doesn't have a feel for the pitch and doesn't trust it come April, abandon the pitch and try again this offseason. The team isn't fiddling with his mechanics to add this particular pitch and the idea can be abandoned with minimal effect on Hughes' overall pitching.
  20. No, I don't think he would. The guy just came off a 5 WAR season. Why would he be so interested in $4-5m now (that he's almost surely going to make anyway) at the expense of a possible $30-40m in free agency? If Dozier's agent has any smarts, the Kipnis contract is the baseline for negotiations. While one guaranteed year of free agency might get the job done, no guaranteed years should have Brian walking away from the table. It doesn't make sense for him to agree to those terms. Edit: after reading this again, it seems you are implying that if the Twins overpay in arb, then that might get the job done. I can see that happening but at that point, are the Twins interested? To get Dozier to agree to a dual-option contract, the Twins would probably have to give him ~$20m in his final arbitration year. That's the only way a deal of that kind makes sense for Dozier. He has to be getting a lot in arbitration to counter the tens of millions he could be leaving on the table on those option years.
  21. Okay, I have disabled one of our networks. Give the system ~30 minutes to cycle through the ads and if you see any auto-play ads or get redirected after 11am, let me know.
  22. Yeah, I think we're misunderstanding each other. Dozier might accept a single year of guaranteed money and a second year team option instead of going to free agency. I was responding to another user who implied he'd sign for two years with team options. That doesn't make sense from Dozier's perspective.
  23. The Tribe also bought out two years of Kipnis' free agency with guaranteed money. That's what the Twins would need to offer to get Dozier to even sit at the table.
  24. I don't see it. Dozier has some financial security to gain by accepting that deal but he's potentially leaving $30m on the table by accepting an option-laden contract. For a guy coming off a 5 WAR season, that doesn't make sense. Yeah, you take the deal if the Twins buy out a FA year for $15m guaranteed but you don't sign an option-laden contract that takes you into your mid-30s for $1m today. Not with the kind of pay ceiling Dozier has if he keeps performing. Unless he has a catastrophic injury in the next 12 months, Brian Dozier never has to worry about money again. Why would he be so hung up on getitng $1m today at the expense of tens of millions tomorrow? No agent in their right mind would accept an option contract for Brian Dozier in 2015.
