  1. Yep. I was fine with Hunter walking away. I thought the Angels' deal looked pretty bad from a financial standpoint (though they could easily afford it while the Twins could not) and thought Hunter would have been a fool to pass it up.
  2. It's hard to blame that on Suzuki when Boyer doesn't have a swing-and-miss pitch in his arsenal.
  3. The Twins seventh and eighth inning guys - Boyer and Fien - have combined for 30 strikeouts in 57.2 innings. Ugh. That might be acceptable if Fien was the seventh inning guy and Boyer was a 5th/6th inning guy but that's a dicey set of pitchers to set up Perkins. One can only hope that Meyer will claim the seventh inning (and later, eighth inning) spot before we get to the end of August.
  4. And that's why it's important to have a bullpen that can miss bats. Odds are that something will fall in for a hit sooner or later.
  5. I will never fault someone for going to a team that is not only willing to give them more money, but give them obscenely more money. Are we really going to fault Hunter for not passing up tens of millions of dollars? It's not like he left for a 1 or 2% raise. He left because the Angels threw piles of money at him, money the Twins refused to offer.
  6. Win 40. Game #: 2015: 74 2014: 89 2013: 93 2012: 95 2011: 87
  7. This is what I posted on Facebook. It pretty much sums up my thoughts on the dissents. "I read excerpts from Roberts' dissent and then I read Thomas' dissent. One guy, though I don't agree with his opinion, deserves to be on the court. And then there's Thomas. I didn't read Scalia's dissent because why bother? The dude is the greatest troll of the 21st century. I'm still not convinced he isn't Andy Kaufman."
  8. I think so. He was the face of the Twins during a resurgent 6-7 year period when they won a lot of baseball games. Hunter is the type of player that qualifies for the "Hall of Very Good", which makes him a good candidate for retiring his number... A 21st century Kent Hrbek (a pretty underrated player when you look back at his career). Not good enough for the Big Hall but certainly good enough for the Team Hall.
  9. I think the simplest response to this question is "Torii Hunter is not a HoF player". WAR isn't the be-all, end-all of HoF voting but it gives decent insight into the overall impact of a player. Torii Hunter has a lower career fWAR than Joe Mauer. We can't even get the voters on board with electing Tim Raines and it took them years to vote in Dawson, for crying out loud... at that point, Hunter shouldn't even be in the conversation.
  10. Sure, but it's a mistake to bank on that being a possibility. Make the guy force his way into the conversation, don't alter his development cycle in hopes there's a remote chance he'll be a fit.
  11. But why? From a numbers and common sense perspective, if you're going to take a gamble on a lefty who can help the team in 2015, you start and end the conversation with Taylor Rogers. He's a starter but as we saw with Meyer, moving from starter to reliever shouldn't be much of an issue. He's not only dominating lefties, he's making them look foolish... and he's doing it at the highest level of MiLB, not a second-rate college conference. There are multiple ways to fix this problem. Jay shouldn't even be in the conversation.
  12. Absolutely. Why would the Twins fake an injury to Buxton? The guy is one of the most lauded prospects in all of baseball. If they felt he needed to work on aspects of his game, they'd send him to Rochester, not fake an injury so he doesn't get to play at all. And then there's the service time argument... Why would the Twins let Buxton accrue service time for no reason?
  13. They want him to be a starter. The longer they punt on making him a starter, the longer it will take for him to reach MLB. That's pretty much the definition of "stunt". They've already signed Jay. He's going to head to the minors very soon and he'll get half a season to start stretching out and facing MiLB hitters. That's half a season wasted if they keep him as a reliever, put him in the minors, and hope hope hope he's good enough to face MLB hitters in the next two months. Nick Burdi had very similar stats to Jay in college. He went to the minor leagues and performed well in A/A+ but then lit himself on fire the moment he was promoted to AA. What makes you think Jay is ready to go to Minnesota straight from college? Virtually nobody else does it anymore, what makes Jay so different? There's a lot of hope in your opinion and not much else. There's no indication that Jay would fool MLB hitters when it took Nick Burdi over a month to start fooling AA hitters (and that was after he got a taste of the lower minors).
  14. The problem is that Jay is probably not the answer. See Example A: Burdi, Nick And why is making the playoffs so important that the Twins stunt the development of a first round pick? I'd rather see them trade off a marginal prospect to pick up a reliever (what they should do is dig into their deep farm system to fix the problem internally) than screw with a guy who they obviously believe has the potential to be a long-term solution in the rotation. That's bad management of prospects.
  15. I don't get the Tyler Jay nonsense. The Twins didn't draft Jay as the sixth overall pick so he could be a middle reliever. He's going to the minors to work on becoming a starter. And that's the right decision.
  16. Yeah, that was a bug. I implemented a shoddy fix for it last week and haven't seen expandable ads for a few days now.
  17. I get it and I harbor no ill will toward people who use various workarounds, I just can't allow it to be discussed on the forums for obvious reasons.
  18. Yeah, just a portion. I can't stop people from using software to disable flash, I simply think it's a bit much to discuss it openly with instructions how to do it when we have paying customers - like the Twins themselves, for example - who rely on that software to serve ads on Twins Daily.
  19. One thing I won't allow on the forum is open discussion how to deny the site revenue by blocking ads. That's how we make the meager amount of money we earn to keep the site running, folks. Anyone who posts instructions how to block ads will get a vacation not only from the ads on Twins Daily, but from Twins Daily itself.
  20. I disabled the worst of the networks we used quite some time ago. Unfortunately, some of the previously reliable ones have turned to serving obnoxious ads.
  21. That's easily my biggest annoyance with the site but it's not a server speed problem, it's an optimization problem. I'm not a system administrator. At some point, I'm going to need to enlist a real Linux tech, someone who better understands scaling, caching, and SQL optimization.
  22. If ban you if I felt you were worth the effort. *high fives self*
  23. I see a lot of reasonable complaints in here. Some aren't reasonable and got a chuckle out of me but most were voicing issues that I've spent a lot of time thinking about. I use this site more than all but a handful of users. Some of this stuff annoys the crap out of me, too... But we've reached somewhat of an impasse that makes changing some of the ads very difficult. I'm not going to go into detail about it and just leave it at that. The bad news is that very little will change in the near future. The good news is that when things change, they'll change dramatically. But if you have comments, never hesitate to share them. Unless you're Dave. That guy just pisses me off. If you have a serious "WTF why is this so broken?!?!" moment, you can always reach me via email at brock@twinsdaily.com or via PM (email is preferred but PMs also work).
  24. On topic: please be Meyer. I ultimately want to see another hitter on the team but I think in the short term, Meyer will have more of an impact than, say, Arcia.
