  1. Only because the other guys were injured for an entire season or something close to it. When healthy, both Buxton and Sano posted numbers far exceeding anything ABW has done in MiLB. I do not understand the fascination with ABW. Some people act as if he's a Golden God when his best OPS came in A ball and didn't even crack .850 (.844). And his MiLB OBP of .311 is "ick" territory. Buxton has a career MiLB OPS of .872 and Sano is at .937.
  2. She's absolutely terrifying. And then she speaks and somehow becomes more terrifying.
  3. They were nearly as bad the previous year as well. I just looked it up and PECOTA badly missed the AL in 2014, hitting on only three teams, all in the ALC (DET, CWS, MIN). They missed on the other 12 teams. Though they faired much better in the NL that year.
  4. That has to be Bachmann. That's classic Crazy Eyes talk if I've ever seen it.
  5. I don't know if I'd ever refer to him as a "top starter" but I think he has the potential to be a 110-120 ERA+ guy for a few years before settling into more of a league average guy in his 30s. Or maybe he's always going to be a 100 ERA+ guy. A lot rides on whether he continues missing bats, IMO.
  6. I try to avoid any and all news about local politicians because it's terrifying to read some of their viewpoints.
  7. Yeah, he needs decisive victories or it's a looooooooong shot to win the nomination. Though it's worth pointing out he still has +40-ish delegates owed him that have yet to be awarded in Washington... It appears their caucus system is even more unnecessarily complex than other states (only ~35 delegates have been awarded out of 101 possible).
  8. This train of thought that leads back to SCOTUS is depressingly hilarious.
  9. This is an interesting thing I noticed this morning... Were the polls just flat-out wrong or is Sanders continuing to gain momentum? Hard to say... While Wyoming is nothing more than a blip on the nomination map, it will be interesting to see if Sanders continues his march into the NY primary or whether he loses some momentum with a loss.
  10. I think that's the future outcome of Texas but I just don't see it in this election cycle unless Trump goes rogue and runs independently (which he easily could do, the guy is arrogant enough to try to destroy the GOP ticket because he didn't like the nomination results).
  11. Interesting... That never occurred to me.
  12. All valid points (except for the bolded). I didn't say Clinton has only won red states, I said her lead was built on red states. And that's pretty much true if you look at the numbers. As for the bolded... It's laughable to think Texas has any chance of going blue in this election. Texas last went blue in a presidential election well before you were born, Dave... Hell, Texas last went blue in an election before I was born.
  13. Do you realize Sanders was arrested at a Civil Rights protest in 1963, right? I mean, I get you support Hillary - and that's completely fine, I understand why people support her - but Sanders was getting arrested at Civil Rights protests while Hillary was punching Republican ballots every November. I'm not knocking Hillary for once being a Republican - it was a long time ago and shouldn't matter - but I think it's also unfair to knock Sanders for not doing enough for black people when he was protesting segregation in the 60s and has been pretty consistently in favor of equal rights across the board.
  14. On the other side of the coin, Clinton's lead is pretty much built on states that have something approximating a zero chance of going blue in November (basically, the South). I mean, I'm going to vote for whichever Dem wins because the GOP field is so horrific and scary but Clinton has her share of "questionable" delegate wins, just like Sanders.
  15. Diverse, yes. Informed? Eh, you'll have a hell of a time convincing me NY or CA is more informed than MN or WA or one of several other states Sanders has taken with ease. But the diversity thing is a huge issue for Sanders. I don't fully understand why it's an issue but it is.
  16. To me, ABW is a gift card. I didn't expect to get it, I didn't budget for it, and it's basically free money. On the other hand, if I never got the gift card, I wouldn't care too much about it. There's a high probability of failure with ABW but that's okay. If he turns into something valuable, fantastic!
  17. By comparison, Trevor May already has ~930 professional innings on his arm. Gibson had a strange series of events that led to his arm getting very little use (college draftee, broken arm, TJ surgery).
  18. Gibson's 2015 was fascinating. I don't know if I've seen a veteran pitcher (who wasn't injured) do this before. April: 22.1 IP, 6 (!) SO (terrible) May: 39.2, IP, 24 SO (started picking up steam as the month progressed) June: 30.2 IP, 28 SO (now we're talkin') July: 31.1 IP, 30 SO (huzzah!) August: 34.0 IP, 23 SO (oh, mid-season dip) Sept/Oct: 36.2 IP, 34 SO (finished strong) Remove Gibson's first six starts and he pitched 158.1 innings with 134 strikeouts. That's pretty impressive for a ground ball guy. So I don't really know what to expect from Gibson. Is he a slow starter? Was last April a fluke? Is he really a guy who can approach an 8 K/9 while getting ground ball outs? I guess we'll find out. People tend to unfairly dismiss Gibson. Will he be a dominant guy? Probably not... But we're talking about a 28 year old pitcher with only 800 professional innings on that arm. Maybe there's a little upside left in there.
  19. But that's more noticeable today because there are actual defenders of transgender people. 30 years ago, no one attacked them because they were a societal afterthought; unworthy of scorn because so few cared about them, much less defended them. This is actually a big reason why I ended up Libertarian for a long time; I was a staunch defender of gay rights in the mid-90s (several gay family members) when no one was in their corner. The Republicans were scared of them and the Democrats tolerated them a little while they passed anti-gay legislation hand-in-hand with the GOP. I chose Libertarianism largely because they were one of the few groups so disinterested in what gay people did in their private life that I latched onto the movement (and also because I had such a disdain for religion in general and wanted it out of my politics... but those two things were inextricably linked in my eyes). When a group is so disenfranchised that they don't even deserve societal scorn, it's easy to forget just how bad things were. The fact things are "heating up" is actually a good sign, as it means real conflict is brewing as coalitions are formed and people begin an attempt to enfranchise these people. On the other hand, you're not entirely wrong about the political climate today... It's definitely more toxic than it has been at any other point in my lifetime. But there's a lot of good mixed in there, too.
  20. The Cruz thing makes sense. While I find the man despicable, he's more of a Republican - as sad as that is to say - than Trump. But what is happening over in the blue aisle is crazy. Hillary all but had this thing wrapped up in a bow and now Sanders is making a run at it. Yeah, he still doesn't have much of a shot at winning this thing but Democrats are sending a pretty clear message to the party with this late run.
  21. This nomination process has been insane. Now Cruz is winning states and Sanders has won six of the last seven.
  22. In college, I passed over Bloody Marys and just went right back to whisky. Aw, hell, who am I kidding? I still do that.
  23. I'm coming around on the Park signing. He's showing a level of plate maturity I hoped, but did not expect, to see.
  24. I'm not even sure it's the unaddressed bullpen issues that bother me (though it irked me that Ryan didn't pick up anyone this offseason). It's Casey Fien. Casey Fien bothers me. I don't understand why they kept him around. It's one of the more irritating aspects of Ryan's bullpen roster management. The Twins almost always start the season with one guy on the roster who infuriates the fan base because he's varying shades of terrible and everyone saw it coming.
