  1. Sure it is. The problem with this statement is that we have no idea if it's "unnecessary". This isn't only a binary situation of "injured/healthy", it's more complex and nuanced than that and, as casual spectators without a mountain of data in front of us, we cannot say whether rest is helping, hurting, or neutral.
  2. I think this is the kind of thing we need more than one season to evaluate and even then we likely won't know if it helps (but the Twins might). Resting players doesn't make injuries disappear. But if it reduces the chance of injury by, say 10%, then it's a significant step in the right direction. We wouldn't even notice a 10% drop in injuries but after a few years, the Twins may be able to quantify the difference. I think just writing off the idea as "well, people still get injured" misses the point of the exercise. And I'm not even saying rest is actually working - though I suspect it is on some level - only that we have no idea if it's working.
  3. This is my take on it. I honestly don't care if he tried to cheat. I literally do not care why he ingests pretty much anything. What I care about is that the man has made tens of millions of dollars and can't use MLB's own support network to clear EVERYTHING he puts in his body. Or that he doesn't have a specialist on retainer to call and ask about these things whenever necessary; god knows he has the money to pay for it. He needs to be smarter than that. All players need to be smarter than that. It's 2019; there are literally ZERO excuses left for this kind of thing to happen and now Pineda's incompetence has potentially cost the team a postseason run. Everyone involved in this should be furious at Michael: the front office, his teammates, the Twins fan base.
  4. They’re still going to win the division. It’s what happens after that where we run into a problem.
  5. Because reverse splits are almost always a short-term mirage.
  6. Sure, but that guy was sent to Arkham Asylum in June.
  7. And if it doesn't matter anyway, why are you criticizing Wade? That's my point.
  8. Nope. Watch the play. There's no way he plays it on a hop. That ball gets by Wade whether he dives nor not. I've watched it five times now.
  9. Again, it wasn't even close. The moment the ball got by Wade, it was a triple. Mercado is fast af. I just don't get why everything has to be the fault of one person or another. Sometimes, **** just happens in baseball and that was one of those moments. Wade is a pretty good defender. He was shifted. Mercado *shouldn't* have hit a ball there, which is why everyone was shifted. It happened anyway. Fer chrissakes, I thought that's why most of us liked baseball instead of trying to slap blame on someone every three ****ing minutes.
  10. Watch the play. Wade does NOT move in to the ball. That means he is literally moving sideways at full speed and comes short of the ball by two feet. There is nothing he can do that prevents that ball from getting by him, which means it's a triple.
  11. How? He was two feet short with a dive while running laterally.
  12. Ugh, no. What could Wade have done differently, other than run faster?
  13. That wasn't on Wade. He had basically no route based on his positioning. He was going full-out and missed by the ball by two feet. There was no angle to stop that from being a triple because it was either "catch, or don't catch". He couldn't ease up and stop it, nor did he have the time to take a different route to change anything (no matter that he was running almost completely laterally, which means he may have to run *farther* to stop it). It was a play that boils down to "eh, that's just baseball".
  14. Pray tell, what was "bad" about his inning thus far? Never mind that he hasn't given up a run in his last six appearances.
  15. I've watched Romo before but until he came to this team, I never fully appreciated how much of a tightrope walker he is through sheer movement on. every. single. pitch.
  16. That's the kind of useless information about baseball I didn't know but obviously need to know. Will file that next to Germany Schaefer.
  17. Even when Sano strikes out like that, it’s such a testament to how far he has come in the past two months.
  18. So what you're saying is that you're worried after literally every pitch he throws.
  19. Yep, but I quite like Kaat. Too bad Bert tagged along with him.
  20. So Pineda looks, uh, pretty good out there tonight.
  21. And Baldelli does something completely different last night, something I fully agreed with from day one: play the matchups. But I also understand why he doesn't aggressively play the matchups on a random day in June, which was part of my point I didn't say out loud. Rocco is smart enough to realize he can't manage a 162 game season like it's September or the postseason, something his predecessor never seemed to grasp. I hope to see a lot more of what we saw last night in October (and maybe a few games in the coming days if it means the Twins can bury Cleveland by mid-September).
