  1. When I said "top of the list", I meant the top 3 guys or so... not necessarily the #1 position. Greinke is struggling. Hamels has re-signed. Those were the two obvious guys at the top going into July. In the second tier, I would slot Sanchez, Dempster, Liriano, Rodriguez. Some have more value than Liriano (Wandy, for example) but also had downside as well (a lot of money owed). As a rental, there aren't many guys I'd rank higher than Liriano, especially from a pure talent perspective. Now that the Marlins are dealing, Johnson may be added to that list as well. Overall, I think you could make a case for any number of pitchers to be in the #1 slot for various reasons but Liriano should be in that group of guys, especially if he puts together another solid/great start in two days.
  2. Man, a lot is riding on Frankie's next start. Another clunker and his value drops to an also-ran. Another 10k+ start and his value jumps to the top of the list again.
  3. From 2002-2011, the Twins exceeded their Pythagorean expected record by 22 games. That's pretty amazing, actually.
  4. I understand the moves and if it was anyone other than Loria doing it, I might even agree with them. But if I was one of the fourteen Marlins fans in Miami, I'd be frothing at the mouth right now. PR has to be a consideration and given Loria's track record, you don't firesale four months after opening a publicly-financed stadium.
  5. As I mentioned earlier, I'm going to try to get a "recent activity" section on the mobile site as well. It's proving trickier than expected. In the meantime, you can use the full site as I mentioned in the article. One of the most important things we agreed on while working on this project was that we didn't want to limit peoples' options with the mobile skin.
  6. What's Paul Molitor up to nowadays? I forgot where he stood on the possibility of managing for the Twins when there were rumblings about it a few years back.
  7. It's going to be damned hard to ignore a 21yo that puts up a 1.000 OPS in AA. In my opinion, that should weigh a lot more than "toolsy with potential". Then again, like Mike, I've always put an emphasis on upper level performance over tools.
  8. Toby! Toby! Toby! ... I just can't resist.
  9. Derp derp, you're right. Two levels. Apparently I forgot about this little place called "Ft Myers".
  10. And you show a guy with 20 years in the organization at least a modicum of respect. It's not Gardenhire's fault that the starting rotation is in shambles. Absolutely nothing would be gained by pulling a dick move and firing Gardy, other than making the organization look bad. The same effect could be achieved in the offseason by politely asking him to step down and doing it behind closed doors.
  11. I don't have big problems with Kubel and Cuddyer sticking around but the fringe pieces should have been dealt before the waiver deadline. There was absolutely NO reason to keep them around amidst that trainwreck of a season.
  12. I also think of Jason Kubel (pre-knee injury) when thinking of Arcia, though it seems that Oswaldo is better defensively... After all, he stuck at CF for quite awhile until he was promoted to the same level as Benson and Hicks.
  13. To be fair to Miguel, he's two years younger than Arcia and only one level behind him in the system. And until recently, Arcia was a K monster himself. A good sign is that he's struck out 20 times in 80 ABs in July and only 5 times in the past ten games. Hopefully the trend continues to move downward as he continues to adjust to the new level.
  14. Most days, neither is Carlos Gomez.
  15. They won't. Even some BYTOers were ready to put Kubel and Cuddyer on the chopping block, even though they dominated all the way through the minors. People just don't show enough patience with kids on the farm. It happens every year, even with guys like Hicks who never do that badly. Aaron never had a bad season, he has only posted somewhat pedestrian numbers in off years as he advanced to a new level at a young age. And I'm saying that as a guy who was never enamored with Hicks.
  16. As some BYTOers know, I've been really high on Arcia for a long time now. He's just a few months into his 21st birthday and is mashing at New Britain. He's posting a .943 OPS overall with a 1.078 OPS in July. In his last ten games, he's OPSing at a whopping 1.138. He only has a couple of months at AA and has certainly hit the ground running. Is it time to start putting this kid on the same level as Sano? Oswaldo just keeps getting better and better. I've long thought that he was the second best prospect behind Sano but now I'm starting to think he may be on the same level due to his young-ish age for AA and his continued progression through the system.
  17. This. Hicks has been an up-and-down player, prone to long droughts of hitting mixed with explosive months. It's a really good sign that he's starting to dominate AA consistently at a relatively young age.
  18. Thanks for the heads-up. Jorge had fallen off my radar. He's still a long ways off but in a system that has no power arms in the high minors, any kind of positive news is a good thing.
  19. My blood boils every time I think about last season's trade deadline. ARGH.
  20. Why would the Twins fire a long-term manager that the fanbase generally likes 2/3 of the way into a lost season? Let him ride out the season and then re-evaluate in the winter.
  21. Yes, that was well-phrased by John. Personally, I would have said "most comments section are herp derp cork-on-the-fork stupid".
  22. The Yankees have done it at least once. Other than that, I can't recall a team picking up two legit starters.
  23. Dude just wanted to stretch his legs. Nothing wrong with that.
  24. The dimensions are the same but the dome didn't have a man-made wind tunnel howling down the concourse from Target Center and into right field. In more than a few games I've attended, I've seen the RF flags whipping in from that concourse. On the other hand, some dead pull lefties have done pretty well in TF, such as Thome. Of course, Jim is built like a lumberjack.
