  1. I don't think this is a scholarship thing at all. Nishioka is a sunk cost. Alexi Casilla is going to arbitration. Valencia has little value or use to the organization, which will be looking to add a lot of players to the 40 man in the coming year. Get rid of Valencia for a marginal prospect, call up Nishioka and see if he can replace Casilla in 2013. If it works out, the Twins can decline arb on Alexi, possibly trade Carroll in the offseason, and use Nishi/Escobar in the futility/2B role. That's several million saved for 2013 and a few slots cleared off the 40 man. All in all, it could make the team both cheaper and better going forward.
  2. Valencia is also extremely limited as a player. He's a right-handed bench bat that can play third base and that's about it. With Plouffe on the roster and playing well, the Twins didn't have much interest in keeping Valencia around and I don't blame them for it. By most accounts, he's kind of a douche. On top of that, he stopped trying in the field and stopped hitting. I'm surprised that the Twins got anything for him and given the fact that they're going to need to start clearing space on the 40 man for some of the incoming players, his destiny was pretty much set in stone. Cut and run on the guy.
  3. I think I predicted them more in the 75-ish win range for this season. After the first two months, I thought that was going to be impossible but they've righted the ship somewhat. If they hit 72-74 wins, they've done pretty well for themselves.
  4. From the All-Star break through the end of August, the Twins only get three days off. That's 47 games in 50 days. Brutal. Interestingly enough, the Twins have been playing pretty well during that stretch. In the first 23 games, they're 11-12 (losing record mainly due to their complete collapse and 1-5 record against the White Sox) and since the break, are 20th in ERA and 13th in WHIP. Offensively, they're 14th in OPS and runs since the AS break. Not anything to write home about but far less awful than they were earlier in the season. Smoke and mirrors, sure... But at least there's a glimmer of hope buried in there somewhere. Anyway, I just thought that stretch was brutal (I only noticed because it seems as if I never get a break from creating game threads lately) and that overall, the Twins have held it together pretty well, all considering.
  5. May as well see what you have for 2013. Best case scenario, Nishi plays himself into a starting position at second (unlikely). Most likely scenario, Nishi shows that he's not going to kill the team in the futility role and that Casilla is expendable. Worst case scenario, the Twins know that Nishi is a AAA player and keeps him there for the entire 2013 season. It's worth exploring, if only because the most likely scenario is that Nishi sticks as a futility guy and the Twins get to save ~$2m in 2013 by letting Casilla go in the offseason.
  6. That's pretty much how I feel. If there's a way to shave even 1 BB/9 from Deduno's line, he's an intriguing pitcher. But given that part of his "unhittable-ness" is based around his shotgun-blast of a fastball that he can't control, I'm skeptical of that happening. Still, Sam makes for an entertaining player in a lost season.
  7. Good. I don't even really care what the Twins got in return. It was time to clear Danny off the 40 man. It was clear he had no future with Minneosta.
  8. Actually, that's the correct usage of the word. North Americans are the only ones who use "learned" in its place most of the time, I believe. Most of the rest of the English-speaking world uses "learnt" in it place commonly.
  9. I think we'll know what kind of day it'll be for Blackburn by the end of the first. Fenway and the Red Sox lineup isn't exactly forgiving of sinkerballers whose sinkers aren't sinking.
  10. It's hard to claim that he has anything left to learn in the minors when he's posting well over a 1.100 OPS in Rochester. I just don't know where the Twins will fit him into the lineup. But if the Twins are willing to sit Doumit, Mauer, and Morneau a little more often down the stretch, they could probably squeeze him in regularly at 1B/RF/DH enough to get him 4+ games a week. Personally, I think he should take Mastrioanni's spot on the roster (or maybe drop a pitcher) with a mandate that Gardy work him into the lineup as often as possible. Darin doesn't have much upside and the Twins need to see what they have in Chris for 2013 and beyond.
  11. If he's not going to play, he shouldn't get the call. He needs reps. I'd like to see those reps come in Minnesota in a lost season but if they can't fit him in, so be it. I used to think Parmelee was a fringe prospect but after his September 2011 and his AAA numbers this season, he's starting to force the Twins' hand. They can't keep ignoring a kid who is mashing everywhere he gets regular play.
  12. I've seen his name pop up now and again. I think everyone is just a little cautious because he's in Elizabethton. If he keeps it up next season, I think we'll start hearing more about him.
  13. It probably has something to do with his career .365 MiLB OBP, his .812 career MiLB OPS, and his 1.159 AAA OPS this season. He's always been good at getting on base but now the power is starting to manifest. I don't think anyone expects him to be a 5 WAR player but he could be a solid contributor for the league minimum.
  14. 89 with sink.

  17. Ugh. I keep forgetting that I promised to get a BYTO archive up someplace. I'll see if I can't fit that in some time soon.
  18. I wanted it to appear as if they were never here. Letting them disrupt the board in any fashion only encourages the bastards.
  19. Chad Allen.
  20. That's pretty much how I feel about it. Why on earth would anybody think it's okay to change the "Win Twins" song in the first place? That thing is so awesomely corny and 1960s-ish that it should stick around forever. And it certainly shouldn't be replaced with a song we jacked from a Leeds football club. That is the very definition of weak. WTF, Springboard guy. WTF. I can't express the amount of facepalm that guy deserves right now.
  21. That's how I feel about it. I don't know of a past situation like this one. The guy has so much life on his fb that he can't control it. I'm skeptical of continued success but there's no reason not to run him out there.
  22. Hey, the Twins managed to win while I was cleaning up the board. Yay.
  23. I found it, no worries.
  24. Does anyone know the hole from whence they came? I'm curious to see the site they came from if anybody knows the URL.
