  1. Nice! Running up Sanchez's pitch count. http://25.media.tumblr.com/300deac66fd666660664d197e6f2cd07/tumblr_mh798wucTV1s47xv9o1_500.jpg
  2. Maybe he's just tired of receiving notes slipped under his door every night that read: "You swing like a girl. -Scotty"
  3. And now Parker has admitted that he's completely phoning it in by copying and pasting an article from 2011. I find it incredibly odd that Morneau is still having this same problem. This should be something that is identified and fixed within days.
  4. There are definitely power guys in the minors... It's just a question of when (if) they'll be ready for promotion. They have some potential but are overshadowed by Sano and Buxton going completely ****ing gonzo in the minors.
  5. Being a first round pick has nothing to do with it. Buxton and Sano are playing out of their minds against players that are generally older. Plouffe and Parmelee never did that and Hicks never came close to the production Miguel and Byron are showing in 2013.
  6. I wonder if Gardenhire ran him out there to force a decision. Either Pelfrey can pitch a decent six inning game or he can't. Running out of steam in the fifth inning of every game (or earlier) isn't acceptable in the Major Leagues. I'd be surprised if he sticks in the rotation if he throws another clunker in his next start.
  7. In the long-term, I don't think Escobar is anything more than a utility guy. In the short-term, I think he's the best shortstop on the roster.
  8. Well, the Twins didn't manage to finish April with a .500 record... Lineups: Twins: Dozier 2B Carroll 3B Willingham DH Morneau 1B Doumit C Parmelee RF Arcia LF Hicks CF Florimon SS Diamond P Tigers: Jackson CF Hunter RF Cabrera 3B Fielder 1B Martinez DH Tuiasosopo LF Peralta SS Pena C Santiago 2B Sanchez P
  9. You have to be kidding me. Collins has put the LEAGUE in a bad spot? Oh, poor NBA. I don't know how they'll cope, knowing that a gay man is prancing up and down their courts three times a week. As for declaring straightness... /facepalm Collins did this at exactly the right time. He's nearing the end of his career. He won't have too many ugly road games in front of him but the point is still made... He's an active professional athlete who has publicly declared his homosexuality. There's a reason this has never happened. Athletes are scared to do it because of public backlash in an arena of society that isn't known for its progressive thought processes.
  10. If your $23m catcher says he's good to go, he's good to go. Mauer will get days off soon enough.
  11. Come on, man... It's funny. Gomez is excited, emotion is running high, English isn't his first language... And what does that add up to? An interview that no one on planet earth understands.
  12. It's possible but that's a pretty steep cliff to fall off. His last three seasons are .738, .830, .781. As long as he's somewhere around .750, I'm okay with him at DH.
  13. I think Arcia will be that guy. He hit around 15 homers per season through the minors while Kubel hit more in the 20 range per season. But Arcia did it a year younger at every level.
  14. Ah, okay. Still, my point applies. There is no sliding scale for the "level of sin". Anyone who claims that living outside the Bible without asking forgiveness is a hypocrite because everybody lives outside the Bible, and for good reason. You'd be thrown in jail in this country if you lived your life based on the book of Leviticus, yet last time I checked, that book is still in the Old Testament.
  15. How many references are there to homosexuality in the Bible? Does it extend beyond the lunacy of Leviticus? Because if it doesn't, I doubt there are many people out there who ask for forgiveness when they touch pig flesh or get a tattoo, yet they're still considered Christians.
  16. I see this repeated constantly and I don't understand it. Only ~15 guys qualified last season and played significant time at DH. Ryan Doumit was ninth on that list. He's just fine as a DH and slots in around league average with an OPS in the .770-780 range.
  17. I think Arcia will be a 20 homer guy. Plouffe, if he sticks, will definitely be a 20 homer guy (or his value plummets). Buxton? Hard to say at this point and if he blossoms into a 20 homer guy, it won't be for several more years.
  18. If Appel falls to the Twins (incredibly unlikely, damn you NL for being so awful), that changes everything.
  19. Really, I don't think power is going to be a huge issue. Sano will replace Willingham. Mauer will do his OBP thing. Hicks should hit a few more homers than Span once he gets time under his belt. Arcia should hit quite a few more homers than Hicks. If Plouffe sticks, all he'll do of value is hit homers. I don't see power being a huge challenge for this lineup going forward. It won't be elite power but teams don't need elite power if several of the players reach base over 35% of the time (which the Twins should be able to do with Hicks, Mauer, Sano, and maybe Arcia).
  20. The priority, in order: 1. Starting Pitcher 2. Shortstop 3. Third Base (obviously, entirely dependent on Trevor Plouffe) Given how the Twins value their prospects, I think the free agent market is the most logical place to pursue decent, not great, players at these positions.
  21. If the Twins can find a competent guy in the field to play short, I'll be satisfied. I won't like it but given this team's history, it's about all I can expect. Part of the reason I started this thread is to suggest that "moving the goalposts" forward involves spending money to win. It's not all about running out a 100% homegrown team, it's about suggesting that it may be time to pick up competent filler for the roster weaknesses. And that probably includes picking up a decent starting pitcher. He doesn't need to be flashy but someone in the mold of a 2013 Ervin Santana would go a long way toward solidifying the rotation.
  22. I should have clarified my thoughts a bit. By "competitive", I mean "still in it at the deadline". I think that's possible in 2014. In 2015, I'd like to see a run at the playoffs. And I don't think the SP and MI is in that bad of shape, honestly. The team needs a shortstop but it always needs a shortstop. Dozier looks like an adequate stop-gap at second. And Gibson/Meyer could slot into the rotation and turn it into a pretty decent staff by their second year. They won't be world-beaters but they should be able to hold their own.
  23. I've been wondering about his performance this season. Mientkiewicz raved about him early. I figured it was back-patting fluff to boost morale. Maybe there was more to it.
