  1. Vance Worley > Mike Pelfrey Mike's stats just didn't line up with those saying Worley should be demoted. At some point, Pelfrey was going to start giving up flyball and line drive moonshots and it's not surprising that it began to happen the moment he pitched in 70+ degree weather.
  2. Dazzle with enlightening color commentary: "Rickey Henderson was the perfect leadoff guy for me, really." So the best leadoff hitter in history (and it's not even close) was your perfect leadoff guy? Good to know.
  3. Will the real Mike Pelfrey please stand up.
  4. I don't care, honestly. I also see it being such an insignificant problem that it isn't worth the time it takes to theorize over its morality or social impact. Approximately 8-10% of the population is gay. Gay siblings who wish to marry each other is, what, .00001%?
  5. Shocking. Pelfrey left one over the plate and gave up a two run homer. Expect to see more of this now that the weather is nice.
  6. Well, this looks to have the makings of a very fun game for Twins fans.
  7. There's a huge difference between polygamy and incestual relations, if only from a physical standpoint. One has medical reasoning to prevent legally... The other has a societal reason to prevent legally due to its past use to subjugate and oppress women, especially young girls (some of this can be applied to incestual marriage as well). For the record, I have no problems with polygamy on its face; I have no business telling others what to do with their lives if it does not affect me. My only problem comes with its past (and in some circles, current) societal implementation and abuse of the system.
  8. Very true, it's a problem with the GOP in general... They've spent half a decade silencing and/or removing moderates who refuse to radicalize. All you have to do is look at how the party went through such lengths to marginalize Jon Huntsman during the last convention season to see how the party treats people who prefer common sense over party rhetoric. At some point, the party has to come back to the middle. How far they're going to continue heading toward CrazyTown is very much up for debate, though.
  9. Justin Morneau hates trees, confirmed.
  10. No, what Minnesota needs are a few politicians who haven't strapped themselves into the party of hypocrisy by yammering about personal responsibility while trying to remove every civic freedom with which they do not agree. It's that cognitive disconnect that bothers me most about the Tea Party. When you compare their various ideologies to one another, they don't make sense and are often in direct conflict with one another. Either you want personal responsibility and freedom or you don't; you can't pick and choose between the two because you'll look like a self-serving hypocrite to anyone with a brain. To an extent, the Democrats are just as guilty of this but at least their rhetoric surrounding it isn't so distasteful to anyone with a conscience.
  11. Lineups: Twins: Jamey Carroll 2B Joe Mauer DH Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit C Oswaldo Arcia RF Aaron Hicks CF Eduardo Escobar 3B Pedro Florimon SS (Mike Pelfrey P White Sox: DeWayne Wise CF Alexei Ramirez SS Alex Rios RF Adam Dunn 1B Paul Konerko DH Conor Gillaspie 3B Dayan Viciedo LF Jeff Keppinger 2B Hector Gimenez C (Dylan Axelrod P)
  12. Twins shortstops have the 11th best OPS in baseball at .723.
  13. Utah is too pragmatic to be last. It will be a southern state.
  14. I know, which is why I liked the low profile of the Metrodome.
  15. Except that in time, all those RISP-y stats tend to regress to the mean. Yes, they vary even from season to season but in time, they tend to drift toward the middle. Which means that they're absolutely awful stats to use as a predictive measure. This isn't about advanced metrics. This is about common sense, math, and 110 years of baseball.
  16. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a baseball fan who doesn't prefer balls in play over pitch counts and sitting on the perfect pitch. But, alas, the game has evolved.
  17. There has only been one season where Joe Mauer wasn't fun to watch. And even then he wasn't awful, just "above average".
  18. Does that mean he should be converting the average RHB into Mike Trout?
  19. Yep. A 1.172 OPS allowed to RHB. That's just... Amazing, actually. The average RHB against Hernandez is a better hitter than either Miguel Cabrera's or Albert Pujols' best season ever.
  20. The reason I pointed that out is because I'm usually pretty progressive when it comes to design. I like modern designs. I like the glass roof, I think that's pretty freakin' cool. What I don't like is the lady-bits entrance and how it dominates the landscape around it... Stadiums should meld into the fabric of a skyline, not steal the show. They're generally boxy and squat. It's not the most appealing line for a building.
  21. Now if the Twins could convince the league to let them use a 1918 baseball, we'd really be cookin' with gas.
  22. That would be the preferred situation and hopefully one Pelfrey would agree to should he continue to be awful. As annoying as it is to say, I think I'd keep them both up for the time being. It won't kill team to see two more starts from each before making a decision. After that time, we'll be able to better judge Vance's bad luck and Pelfrey's "rebound". And despite his recent success, as relative as that may be, I'd still send down Hernandez before either Pelfrey or Worley. Nothing about the guy says Major League starting pitcher to me.
  23. Again, both are bad. One can blame some of that awful pitching on luck while the other cannot (to an extent, anyway... Pelfrey's BABIP is .350). Given the situation, I'll take the younger guy who factors into the team's longterm plans over the guy who looks better largely because his HR/FB rate is at 3.7%. Once the weather warms in Minnesota, Pelfrey could look like the second coming of Jason Marquis. Pelfrey's GB rate isn't particularly good (43%) and at some point, those flyballs are going to start leaving the park. And at least Worley is striking out 2% more batters (~11.5% to ~9.5%). Once you look through their peripherals, I don't see a reason why one would demote Worley before Pelfrey (excepting the reason that you want to keep Mike around all season instead of exposing him to waivers, which I don't really care about at this point).
  24. I don't know if it's in this thread but I've mentioned several times today that both have been pretty awful, but at least Worley has horrible luck to offset some of that awfulness while Pelfrey is rocking a ridiculous HR/FB rate that is unsustainable. Given Pelfrey's WHIP, once that normalizes, things could get really ugly.
