Keep on losing!

You have a point here... to an extent. I don't think anyone would tell you that having a good farm system, hot prospects, high picks, etc. will guarantee that you win regular season games/playoff games. However, while some prospects fail, the more you have, the more likely you are to end up with the ML talent that does win games and playoff games.

You are correct on the development piece as well.

The problem is that when the ML team sucks, which it has for several years, there really isn't any way to get out of that funk except to develop a good farm. The Twins don't have the budget to plug in every high priced FA out there, and quite frankly, the FA market typically doesn't have enough pieces to do that either. There are examples of how this works as well. The Marlins are one of the more recent ones, where just two years ago they spent a bazillion dollars on expensive FAs and even tried and failed to bring in Pujols. It didn't work.

Where the team sits presently, it is in the best LONG TERM interest to aquire as many high ceiling prospects as possible and see what it has in terms of talent that can be used to augement them. The best way to do that is to trade off what won't contribute to the next wave and let the talent that's in the majors take some lumps. The end result will be more losses in the short term as well.

I don't think I've argued against any point you've made in this post. I liked the Span trade, I liked the Revere trade. Liked those trades meaning that I liked what was trying to be accomplished by Ryan. The same reason why I liked the trade by Smith iof Garza and company going to the Rays for Delmon and company. hindsight says it wasn't a good trade, obviously, but I liked the intent of the trade, trading perceived strength for perceived weakness.

The discussion, though, was about rooting for the team to lose in order to get higher draft picks. Doing trades for more established prospects, I'm all for that.

I'm all about getting as much quality talent in ALL ways possible, but I won't root for them to lose. We end up where we end up in the draft and with the way they are playing, we'll get a quality player for sure anyway without having their fans rooting for them to lose.

I'm also not a proponent of going hog wild on free agency. I think I've been pretty clear I'd be happy with them spending their 50-52 percent of revenue like they said they would.

There's a difference between appreciating what losing could bring and actively rooting for them to lose.

I find myself a bit indifferent to whether they win or lose but I do find myself really rooting for the young guys to grow and develop. Part of that is losing but I think some winning will be beneficial to their development. If that means the Twins don't get one of the top 2 or 3 prospects, that's fine with me. There's little doubt in my mind that they are going to be somewhere near the top (or bottom as it really is).

BUMP!

White Sox just won! They are now only 1 game behind us.

While I see the value in losing and can appreciate the rebuilding (retooling) process you are taking it to a whole new level haha.
