Great to see Gibson get the call. Hopefully it won't be long before we see Albers who is now 5-0 in June after allowing 1 run in 5 innings with 6 K's today.

WHIP is a fine stat, but over 1 month, it doesn't tell you much.

Albers

K% - 21.3 % (pretty good at AAA)

BB% - 6.4 % (Very Good for AAA)

FIP - 3.53 (not fantastic for AAA)

IP 81

ERA - 3.00

 

Gibson

K% - 21.3 % (pretty good at AAA)

BB% - 7.6 % (A little too much for AAA)

FIP - 2.96 (very good for AAA)

IP - 92

ERA 3.11

 

And I agree, call up Albers too. No reason to keep DeVires on the 40 man when he is blocking Albers.

I agree with everything but FIp as it doesn't factor in all hits and considers all hr's as equal. Considering grand slams giving up 4 runs the same as a solo shot is fundamentally flawed. I have another thread on here on a revised formula for FIp that punishes pitchers that can't pitch under pressure with runners on base. As an example take Albers last 2 hrs allowed. Both were solo shots in the revised stat the multiplier would be 7 for a solo shot, 11 for a two rundinger, 15 for 3 run shots and 19 for grand slams. In this instance Albers would be charged with 14 (7*2) as opposed to 26 (13*2) in the regular fip. Add just those changes and you can see the significant difference between pitchers who throw a few garbage dingers and those that give up hr's in more important situations. For such a heavily hr based stat it's unfortunate that fip is so skewed.
