  1. Maybe this should have been done before Petit was DFA. Now the Twins have no reserve infielder until Polanco is eligible, which is still almost a month away. Poor roster management. Even if the Twins got an offer for Dozier, they would have to pass because they lack an infielder (they are willing) to call up.
  2. The Twins have been 5 (or more) games below .500 more than twice as many days (24) as they have been above .500 (11). They can’t blow it up fast enough IMO.
  3. How does a 6 man rotation change the number of relievers the team needs? The Twins are carrying 8 now. If they carry 6 starters too that leaves 2 bench players. A catcher and ??
  4. A brilliant manager knows when it is important to protect the health and future of his players. Magill last pitched June 5th. Molitor needs to use him, PERIOD. If he fails, so be it. Then it is on Falvine to get better relievers on the roster. But he simply CAN’T run Pressly and Reed out there every day and expect them to continue to stay healthy, let alone perform.
  5. I think it is pretty obvious that Falvey wanted someone other than Molitor from day one but was then hamstrung by Jim Pohlad’s comments. I further suspect that the extension was more Pohlad than Falvey. So, now it is (IMO) a battle about control. If Pohlad wants to run the team his way (eg country club rules), I think Falvey and Levine will walk away. If Pohlad truly wants Falvine making decisions in the best interest of the organization, he’ll allow them to do just that. Including firing Molitor. Obviously, Pohlad will have to sign off on the decision, but I can definitely seeing Falvey (maybe not Levine so much) saying to Pohlad, “Well, we tried it with your guy and here we are. Again. So, decision time sir. Do you want Molitor or me?”
  6. Or, they could subtract a pitcher. Magill hasn’t pitched in 10 days now. They obviously have too many. Maybe that’s a great idea. DL Reed for 10 days now. Put Pressly on the DL when he gets back.
  7. The bunting hasn’t been there because there are rarely runners on base with 0 outs.
  8. Taken by itself, I would agree. Taken in conjunction with the other mentioned stats, it is an additional sign that the bullpen is bad.
  9. The Twins have allowed MLB worst 42% of inherited runners to score. Only the Tigers (who have played 5 more games) have more blown saves than the Twins 13. Then there is the Twins abysmal 3-13 record in one run games. All of these are signs of a BAD bullpen - that you are calling “good enough”. Good enough for what? Actually, I’ll answer my own question. Good enough to result in a 29-34 record.
  10. I’m not sure I buy into that methodology for comparing speed. They are basically comparing the absolute top speed for guys. Sure, for one second Grossman could be 9 inches per second faster than Adrianza. But going from first to third on a single, I’ll bank on Adrianza getting there faster every time.
  11. Is there some metric that says Grossman is faster than Adrianza? It certainly doesn’t pass the eye test. Ehire is pretty quick. I don’t know how much more time the Twins are willing to give Logan Morrison. My guess is the Sano to 1b/dh starts when Polanco gets back. With Mauer also likely back by then, Morrison is the logical odd man out.
  12. You can’t trade players no one wants. As I said, Reed and Rodney are likely at the top of teams want lists. Relievers usually are.
  13. Falvine really hasn’t had the chance to select and develop potential relievers yet. They inherited all the players at A ball and above. The only reliever that made his MLB debut during Falvine’s tenure that has done well is Hildenberger, and he had a rough start to this year. To the point that many were calling for him to be sent to AAA. No one else has done well enough to hold a spot. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the system’s supposed surplus of relievers.
  14. I concur. If the Twins are sellers (and I still think they should and will be), Reed and Rodney are the ones at the top of most teams’ want list. Don’t really want to put a green rookie in the closer role. Pressly would be next in line, but he could be dealt as well. With a few years of control remaining, he would command a higher return. Next in line would be Hildenberger, with barely a year at the MLB level.
  15. I guess the question is will the Twins get more than one. I could see the players voting in a guy like Escobar. I think Rosario might be a final vote candidate.
  16. The odds of him getting hurt again this year are pretty high. There’s a reason why there aren’t many three hundred pound infielders.
  17. In ‘06 the catalyst was getting rid of Castro and Batista in favor of Bartlett and Punto. A big slugger getting hot helped a little too.
  18. 1) I believe I mentioned that Buxton’s lack of productivity has been discussed plenty. Not recently because he’s on the DL, which I believe I also mentioned. 2) A big part of Buxton’s impact was always going to be and is always going to be defense. The offensive impact was always expected to be less than Sano’s. 3) Sano was never expected to be a plus defender. Indeed, the hope was for at least close to league average. Therefore, his entire value depends on him hitting. 4) Discuss Sano’s “motivation” with someone else. I’ve never mentioned it and could care less about it. I care about results. His are terrible. 5) As I also mentioned, Sano is “singled out” because his not hitting is THAT big of a deal. Buxton not hitting hurts too. Him being on the DL hurts. But his bat was simply never expected to be anywhere close to impactful as Sano’s. The entire offense is built around Sano. If he can’t be the third or fourth place hitter the Twins need him to be, literally nothing else matters. Because the Twins won’t contend for a title with this core if he isn’t in the middle of it.
  19. Grossman and Garver aren’t supposed to be starters. The starting CF is on the DL. And plenty has been said about his lack of productivity. Plenty has been said about Morrison as well. The fill ins are just that. Fill ins. Sano is hitting about .150 OPS below his career mark. His HR rate is down 1% of his career avg. his K rate is 5 % higher than career avg and BB rate is 3% lower than career rate. This is a player in his 4th season who is supposed to be the cornerstone of the offense. He should be PROgressing not REgressing at this stage of his development. If he doesn’t develop into an all star caliber hitter rapidly, this franchise will be back at square one offensively by mid 2019. Unfairly singled out? No. Sano not hitting is simply THAT big of an impact to this team. That’s the price that comes with the hype that this organization has fed us for the last half decade.
  20. Really? Who’s on first or DH next year? Morrison? Sano? Are you really okay with that unless both show marked improvement? I don’t know’s on third either... And if Buxton doesn’t figure things out the Twins need a new center fielder. They won’t give him forever. If he still hits like crap by end of 2019 he will not be on the team. That will be almost 2000 PA. If a guy can’t figure it out by then, he probably won’t. Same goes for Sano frankly. Still could use 2-3 high end relievers and as promising as Berrios looks, an ace caliber pitcher is always a need.
  21. In that case Molitor could have made his point by using Hughes and the rule 5 guy (yes, I have already forgotten his name) in higher leverage spots due to the lack of options. Would they have failed? Probably. But, if I’m Molitor I go the press conference and say “I gotta use the guys I have.” That shifts the blame to Falvine for having 2 useless pitchers on the roster for 4-5 weeks.
  22. I remember him taking a one hop smash off the bat of Jose Canseco. It knocked out a couple teeth as I recall.
  23. Hence why I have been saying sending him to AAA now serves no useful purpose. Not specifically to you, but it has definitely been suggested by many.
