  1. The flaw in giving credit to Castro and Gimenez is that it seems to have only helped 3-4 pitchers. The other 20 they have used this year have been just as bad or worse than last years' staff. If they are so fantastic, why isn't everyone better? IMO the impact of Castro and Gimenez on the pitching staff is drastically overblown.
  2. Most AAA road trips are by airplane. Obviously, a team like Rochester wouldn't fly to Buffalo, but they would to most of the cities in the IL.
  3. It's called a lack of better options. Maybe give Slegers and/or Hurlbut a shot but frankly not much suggests results better than Tepesch or Turley. I don't see Colon as a better option either.
  4. It could very easily be a case of a guy playing his first full season at the MLB level as a shortstop and having fatigue starting to set in. He's not striking out a lot. Indeed, his K rate is better than it was last year. His BABIP is .250, which is very low. That suggests some bad luck at play as well. I'd be more concerned if he looked overmatched at the plate. That clearly isn't the case. My biggest concern is that he hasn't seperated his offensive struggles from his defense. He's been kinda shaky the last week or so.
  5. Hmm, second time Orioles have seen Hildenberger. And he probably is a little gassed from Friday yet. Probably not a good combination at this stage in his career.
  6. I'm sorry. He was safe. It was a great effort by Sano, but Vargas' foot was clearly off the bag on the replay.
  7. That's two the first base umpire has missed in the last half hour.
  8. I can only assume that when calls are reversed that MLB makes note of what umpire made an incorrect call. That has to be part of their evaluation, not?
  9. Only if they move the fences in 15 feet.
  10. With one asterisk. Once upon a time the first couple pitchers went two innings. Although, I'm not sure that has happened recently. If a starter throws more than 25 pitches Tuesday, he probably wouldn't start Saturday. I also don't think it is likely any starter throws that many though.
  11. Isn't it a little early to etch Granite's name in stone on the roster? The guy doesn't have a base hit yet.
  12. Duffy needs a break. Big time. Curious decision to have him be first up. Why not Pressly?
  13. No one is going to confuse Vargas for Doug Mientkiewicz, but he is adequate defensively. As long as he hits. Which he has not for the last month or so.
  14. Could be worse. He could be lined up against Houston and the Yankees.
  15. Yeah, Gibson sure looked good against a terrible Angel lineup. Against a team that can actually hit, this is simply what he is. The unfortunate truth is that the Twins may not have any better options at this time.
  16. Santana might throw 15-20 pitches Tuesday. That's less than he would throw on the side between starts. If for some odd reason he throws more than that, Molitor probably changes the plan. If he throws that many, odds are he would get taken out mid inning. Pretty much guarantee that all the other starters that appear will start Saturday. I don't think it is a good idea to micromanage and try to set a particular pitcher into a particular series. The object has to be to get your best pitchers into as many games as possible. That means running Ervin out there as soon as it is prudent. That is Saturday.
  17. Twins played a well rounded game today. Hitting, pitching and defense were all bad.
  18. Hitting it softer would only help his average when he hits it on the ground. Like I said. Please don't change my words to bolster your argument.
  19. Turley threw 68 pitches on the 4th. If the Twins really thought they needed a guy, it could have been him. Other than Hildenberger, everyone else should be able to pitch today and most likely tomorrow.
  20. Wouldn't not hitting the ball hard increase his chances of getting a hit if it is hit on the ground? How many infield hits does he have already this year that would be outs for anyone else? I remember two in the last week. Doesn't that increase his BABIP? Rod Carew had a career BABIP of almost .360. He certainly didn't hit the ball particularly hard. In his younger years, he was blazingly fast.
  21. I doubt the Twins would add a 9th reliever right after the Break. The Twins will likely stick with Granite until Mauer is activated or a 5th starter is needed.
  22. I think you are reading way too much into it. Jorge was just going to sit around and do nothing for the next 12 days. At least this way, the Twins actually have a guy that might be useful for a minimum of 3 games. I don't think the Twins would have waited to DL him if his back injury was that serious.
