  1. Plus, the way the pen has been lately, the Twins probably have a better chance to win if Berrios continues to pitch.
  2. As I said, Berrios is far from an automatic out. He's a career .500 hitter.
  3. Well, doing that will get him out of the game even faster.
  4. I'm not sure it's a given that he would be lifted. He will likely be around 80 pitches. Maybe less. Plus, he's a decent hitter.
  5. Here's one. Margot was awarded an RBI and a sacrifice fly on a play in which another baserunner was thrown out. I thought there was no RBI on double plays.
  6. I may have to post this under the official scoring thread. Margot was awarded an RBI. I thought the rule is no RBI on a double play.
  7. Very odd that Padres didn't pinch hit IMO. Second and third, no one out. 0-0. Your pitcher is over 90 pitches anyway. Seems like a no-brainer.
  8. For those watching: was that a legitimate hit or a play that likely would have been an error 20 years ago? Gameday says "singled to third baseman Sano".
  9. On the plus side, this is likely the last inning for Cy-cin. He's due up third.
  10. According to gameday, the last two pitches were above Spangenberg's head. And he swung at one of them.
  11. Not going to say it. I hope Ben Davis isn't in the lineup though.
  12. St. Charles. Although, since a major employer left a few years back, not so much.
  13. Just saw on the crawl that Dustin Pedroia was just placed on DL. Not that Dozier is likely to clear waivers. Escobar or Adrianza might though.
  14. And that inning showed why the Twins were sellers. First and second, nobody out. Top of the order due. No runs. That's actually statistically very hard to do.
  15. Padres baseball. Drop it. More accurately: throw it away.
  16. Smallish chance of rain? It never rains in southern California!! In other irrelevant (or irreverant) news, one year ago today Max Kepler hit three 2 run HR against Cleveland. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he doesn't do that tonight at Petco.
  17. I was speaking of the AA bullpen. Of course, some of those guys are now hurt and some have moved up. But the philosophy remains the same.
  18. Yes, but it is important that the prospects do that. Not so much the org filler. Here's a for instance: Let's say the Lookouts are playing and facing 2 on, 1 out in the 6th. Fernando Romero is pitching and at about 80 pitches. Now, to win the game, it might make more sense to pull Romero and let one of the big arms get out of the jam. But it is CRUCIAL that Romero learn how to get those outs when he is running low on gas. If Romero gets out of it or doesn't, either way is a learning experience. Pulling him would be the WRONG move no matter what the outcome is.
  19. The Twins won 13 games after August 8 last year.
  20. Well, obviously he has to get over that hurdle first.
  21. That's not necesarily to his credit as a minor league manager. The job is to develop the 3 or 4 or maybe 5 legitimate prospects on the team. Period. If in doing that, the team wins more than it loses, that's simply gravy.
  22. Why not? If he does well, maybe you can get something for him. If not, does it really matter at this point? I said a couple weeks ago that pitchers who are successful in the 9th have the superior mental makeup. The stuff is of secondary importance. At this point in their careers, Belisle and Perkins won't dwell on failure. Not sure that can be said about Hildenberger yet. He's also vulnerable to LHB. Hildenberger has K'd 1 of every 3 RHB he faced so far, just 1 of 7 LHB. As they see him more, I suspect LHB will hit him better. BABIP data so far suggests that LHB have been slightly unlucky and RHB have been very lucky. As that normalizes, I suspect his splits will eventually show him to dominate RHB and be mediocre to bad against LHB.
  23. Pickler has no experience as a manager and his only experience as a coach is this year and one year as an assistant at Arizona State. He just isn't qualified to be a MLB manager. I think Molitor gets let go as soon as the minor league seasons end and is replaced by Dougie baseball.
