  1. Darvish was never coming to Minnesota. Not for a 7yr/$175M. Why would he? He could take a deal with the Cubs and pitch for a better team in a bigger market. Same with Ohtani. Why would he choose Minnesota? If you’re blaming Falvey, Levine, or the Pohlads on either of those “misses”, I think you’re fooling yourself. I think Falvey and Levine are building for 2019. 2017 was fun, but the Twins are just at the beginning of their window. I’m no apologist for the front office, but I can understand and respect the strategy they’ve shown this far.
  2. I agree with everything LeatherAntenna had to say on this. I’m a Mauer fan. I think he’s been judged too harshly, but “living legend” and “offensive juggernaut” are unnecessary hyperbole. I’d love to see the Twins sign him to another year at $6-8M, but I bought tickets for the season finale today because I don’t expect we’ll see him in a Twins uniform past 2018. Great career, but not legendary.
  3. Sign Cobb to a 3-4 year deal. Trade for Archer. We can replace Kepler and Gordon a lot easier than we can find an ace starter. And the Twins and their fans will be much happier in 4 years than Chicago.
  4. A 7-year commitment for a 32 year-old who's only going to work 1/5 days? Oh, and he wants $175M? Anyone who still thinks signing Yu Darvish is a good idea for this team better have never said an ill-word about Joe Mauer or his contract. Darvish is a nightmare. I hope the front office realizes that and stays far away.
  5. Loved hearing Joe Nathan. Wish Gleeman would’ve let him answer the questions, though. Almost every question, Gleeman basically gave him a multiple choice.
  6. “I don’t want to rain on this parade, but this has to mean theyre out of the running for Darvish. This team isn’t going to have a $135M payroll.” I hope you’re right. I’d much rather see the Twins send a few prospects and someone from our now-overpacked middle relief crew to Tampa Bay for Archer. Or wait on another starter this season and find a better deal on a top of the rotation guy for 2019.
  7. I’m not sure I follow the logic here. All we know right now is that the Twins have gotten way more value out of Dozier over the past few years than what they paid for. That’s an A+ by any scoring system. He might have a terrible 2019 - 2020 and, had the Twins bought out those two additional years, the extension would be merely okay or potentially bad. As it stands, they’ve gotten incredible returns for their investment. At least from late-July through September. Let’s not forget that from April through mid-July of the past two years, Dozier’s been pretty bad at the plate.
  8. I disagree with New York being clearly separated from the teams in the chase for the 2nd Wild Card. NYY is only a few games ahead of MN in the standings, and not even in a much better division. NYY has an edge in pitching, but on any given day, Santana, Berrios, Colon, or (yes, even) Gibson can create some real problems for an opposing lineup. The Twins have some big holes in their bullpen, but they've got some talented arms too. I guess we'll find out early next week. Then hopefully for good this season a few weeks later.
  9. Mauer is derided for three reasons that are mostly ou of his control. Injuries, position, and personality. If not for injuries, Mauer and Morneau would probably be popularly regarded as two of the best Twins of all time. Bad luck and too many hits to the head make them two of the Twins greatest tragedies along with Puckett. His position really hurts him. He doesn't have the power for first. But at catcher, he would still be among the most valued at his position in the league. I don't know how Mauer operates in the clubhouse and in the dugout, but fans see a low key guy who takes his knocks in stride and doesn't get too worked up and assume that means he doesn't care or isn't a leader. The contract stuff complaints are complete nonsense. Anyone offered $137M would break their arm signing that contract as fast as possible. I completely agree that Mauer isn't earning $23M with his play on the field, but I didn't hear too many complaints about his contract in 2007-2009 or when Target Field was built. I'm a couple years older than Mauer, so I just can't idolize him, but I have four kids who will grow up hearing stories about Mauer the way my dad talked to me about Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew.
  10. I dig Rosario and hope that management allows him to just play his game. His aggressiveness at the plate makes for some ugly BB/SO numbers, but I'd love to see the coaching staff just get out of the way of our outfielders and let them do their thing. They're a young group. Experience will be a good teacher. They don't need to compete this year. They need to grow and figure out their own way to find success.
  11. My non-sabermetrics view on Hunter Greene is pretty high. He's a gamble coming out of high school, but his athleticism and character make him a good bet to me. Baseball America (I know, relax) had a good story about his work ethic, intelligence, and overall character. Even if the Twins don't take him, I'll be keeping an eye on him to see how his career pans out, if it does. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/get-to-know/
  12. "Edgar Corcino spent the second half of 2016." On a boat? On drugs? In an RV behind Walmart?
