  1. Bret Myers? 20% chance. Alex Myer? 0% chance. You don't f around with service time with a Scott Boras advised power pitcher. He will be up no sooner than June 2014, nor should he be.
  2. My guess is because he's not very good and he's over 30. But I've come to the point where I'll take damned near anybody that isn't some reclamation project off the scrapheap. My guess is because even Joe Saunders is going to demand $8-12 million which means he'll be the Twins big free agent spend even though he should be considered a #4 starter and a Joe Saunders anchored rotation is going to continue the Target Field attendance drain.
  3. Im pretty sure Nolan Ryan knowns Derek Holland isnt an ACE. Maybe he thinks he is a low end #2. His stats definitely indicate he is not an ace. Just like the poster above, I think getting him out of Texas would be great for him. Ryan obviously knows he's not an ace, thats why he's pushing for Greinke to replace him. That doesn't mean he's not going to use his age and team friendly(ish) deal to ask for an ace's expected return. I don't know how the Twins could get him without losing at least one of their big name prospects.
  4. Holland is signed cheaply for the next five years and the Rangers are going to market him as an ace which he's not. I have a hard time believing they wont ask for more than Revere and one year of Morneau even if the Twins do eat half his salary.
  5. Does moving Span and Revere cause the Twins to consider moving Rosario back to the OF? I hope not, I like him at 2B.
  6. I agree the team needs to take the highest upside guy available, roster spot be damned. With this teams chronic mis-use of the DL, they should be quite apt at dealing with a 24 man roster.
  7. Doesn't seem that risky when you consider the Twins paid Capps nearly 12 million over the past two seasons.
  8. Fine by me, but he's the kind of guy the Twins have historically valued more than most other teams do. Reputation for good defense, local, and a 'good guy', but not a good hitter. Kind of surprised he's not a Twin already... Too true, but I hope those kind of moves went out the window when everyone's job security became tenuous.
  9. On the other hand, it wouldn't be terribly strange to bring in a guy like Hannahan. But why waste a roster spot in December on the guy who automatically becomes the team's first DFA candidate? If the Twins want him, they can offer him a minor league invite in February, he's most likely not going to get an MLB offer from another team, he's that bad of a hitter.
  10. I would ask McCarthy to pay the Twins $5 million for the right to pitch in Minnesota. I have zero interest in pitchers who suddenly become useful in Oakland, 90% of the time it's a mirage. Besides, are we really looking to keep the status quo on the Twins already league worst K/9? If this team is going to gamble on an injury prone pitcher, they should have gone after Dan Haren who actually isn't injury prone, but just has bad PR guys at his agents firm.
  11. You guys don't honestly think Ryan is going to give a MLB deal to a guy who otherwise will have to wait to get a minor league contract with a ST invite by the other 29 clubs? Hannahan has a whopping .17 better OPS vs. righties than Plouffe does; being a left-handed hitter from MN doesn't mean he's useful. Stay away. Reports are that Jeff Keppinger is looking at $8M over two years. Why is this guy getting so much less attention than Marco Scutaro, Stephen Drew and Jed Lowrie? The Twins just gave Jamey Carroll 2 years for $6.75M, what the hell.
  12. Maybe Ryan isn't looking to decrease the already league worst K/9 rate.
  13. Why would anyone pay to bring in a left handed platoon partner for Plouffe who hits righties just as poorly? Just because he's a lefty doesn't mean he can hit right handed pitching. Spoiler alert, Hannahan can't and never has.
  14. Please just say no to McCarthy. I don't trust any pitcher that "discovers"himself at Oakland Colliseum. Regardless the Twins don't need any more awful K/9 pitchers. The infield defense sucks, and if the Twins are planning on a future with Sano, Rosario and Harrison it won't be improving. Ryan knows it, that's why he traded for Myers and why he finally drafted strikeout pitchers last year.
  15. I think it might be a decent idea. If his contract is similar to Span's, it still shouldn't be an issue if they want to move him. Revere's numbers in his first couple of seasons look farily similar to Michael Bourn's. Minor league numbers were pretty projectable for Bourn and so far, Revere's minor league numbers are also translating. Bourn flashed some power (for the first time and in a contract year) and is going to walk more but he'll also strike out 3x more than Revere. Personally, I think Bourn is overrated. A decent .340-.350 OBP and leading the league in steals doesn't automatically make me think he's an all-world free agent, but it seems a bunch of GM's and baseball wonks seem to disagree seeing as he's one of the top free agents this year and was one of the hottest trade targets last year. If there's a chance Revere could get the same value, I'd lock him up. While I'd be OK with the extension gamble, I think the Twins could wait one more year. Since Revere has no power, I don't think his arb years will be too expensive.
  16. Well this was my only real beef with the Liriano trade. I didn't want guys who were forced to take up a 40-man spot but weren't usefull enough to be on the 25 man. Now even if it's justified, Ryan won't want to lose Escobar or Hernandez because he's going to feel obligated to give those two a fair shot to prove the trade worthy.
  17. Daniel Schlereth got non-tendered, his control is so shakey he doesn't seem like a Twins kind of pitcher but they do seem to be turning their attention to power arms at long last. Not sure he'd need to be offered more than a minor league contract but he is a sexy flamethrower so he might get offered a MLB contract and require a spot on a 40-man.
  18. Someone claimed in rule 5 has to stay with the team the full season, don't they? Would seem odd not to take them to spring training, then. Ha one would think. My sarcasm had a loophole I guess. Good point on no team claiming him. Of course it's possible teams with the top picks wouldn't do so to save roster spots to see if anything better pops up. I wonder if there are any rules against picking your own player? If there were no other players the Twins preferred over him at the #4 pick, could they decide to save Guerra?
  19. I'd think that the team that claims him in the Rule V will be extending him the spring training invite.
  20. Just curious, but would people here have been willing to flip Perkins for Hanson? Obviously Perkins and Walden are different, Walden is cheaper and younger, but Perkins is a lefty, still has a favorable contract and has a better recent track record. Just hypothetical.
  21. I'm wondering if people upset with the trade are more upset with the return or how far away the return seems? Had the Twins gotten Tijuan Walker, who is far away but a top ten prospect, would some of you folks still be disappointed? Serious question not trying to provoke.
  22. I like Myers, in fact I thought he'd be off limits as the Nats recently dealt most of their pitching talent. That being said, the reports were that Ryan was asking too much for Span, though no one had the courage to say what the demand was. I don't think the Twins fleeced the Nats on this deal,so the question is, were the people saying that Ryan was asking too much undervaluing Span, or did Ryan come down off of his price overnight.
  23. It'll probably be up to six threads if they actually sign him.
  24. Ryan probably realized that Feldmen and Liriano had similar numbers last year and thought he might as well offer a small low-risk deal now to see if Liriano will come back into his Minnesota comfort zone before another GM catches whatever ailment the Cubs front office is suffering from and offers Frankie a similar $6 million.
  25. Pretty sure LOOGY isn't an acronym but simply a derogatory term used for the near useless guy teams like to waste a roster spot on despite the fact he can only face one batter a night.
