  1. I'd think Gene Glynn would be first in line. He's being shielded from the MLB mess right now sitting in Rochester. Anyone who comes from TB should get the first interview in my book. Still, I haven't been a Gardenhire apologist in a long time, but this situtaion is a load of crap. Even though Ryan surely knows the likely disaster that will be 2013 is his fault, not Gardenhire's, Ryan also knows the fan restlessnes is going to cause him to ax the manager. Hopefully smarter minds prevail and the front office is wiped clean if the coaching staff is also taken out, they can start looking for replacements by talking to Glynn's old pals in Tampa.
  2. I'd be so upset if I was a Dback fan getting only a future utility infielder for one of the top pitching prospects.
  3. So your point was to come and make a bs argument that the Twins wouldn't like to have Shields pitch for them? To make the garbage insinuation that Correia is the only move the Twins have made or will make? To further some ridiculous notion that not winning a World Series is a complete failure? Is that about right? The Tigers tried to get Shields just as hard as the Twins tried to get Haren or McCarthy or ... well, Shields, if you want to play that game. The Twins likely will make another move, though this one is a bad omen. If you believe La Velle E Neal, the Twins actually never made an attempt to sign McCarthy. There were never any reports that they made a play for Haren either. They could have traded for him, giving up peanuts likely, had they been willing to pay him $13 million. On the other hand, the Tigers actually DID make a strong effort to trade for Shields. I agree that Correia was surely not a top target, but obviously the Twins are not trying as hard as other clubs to sign/trade for some of these big names. We DO hear reports the Twins have been tied to Correia, Liriano, Lannan and Myers. We DON'T hear reports they are tied to Sanchez, Marcum, Jackson or Lohse. Methinks you missed my point. Did I? I highlighted the areas of my previous post that I thought addressed your point. If they are off base, I apologize.

  5. I'm just not really sure what people expected to happen. If they were going to find someone to take only one year, it probably be in January or February after the market is REALLY picked over and the only guys left are even worse than Correia. I doubt it, there are always stragglers that haven't been signed and latch on for a team friendly deal come February. Those pitchers are of the same caliber as Correia. These threads are going to resurface again in two months when other teams are signing the Randy Wolf's, Carl Pavano's and Mike Pelfry's for $1-$5 million on 1 year deals.
  6. And one of those factors could be...Twins don't make the best offer... Name one higher profile pitcher then that signed a FA contract with a last place team? The Rockies signed Jeff Francis for $1.5 million and only had to give him 1 year. That signing would have only been mildly annoying, not upsetting like this two-year slap in the face. The other bottom feeders haven't done anything, just as Ryan shouldn't have unless he was going after a top of the rotation arm.
  7. This would barely register with people if Ryan hadn't made it a 2 year deal. Why Ryan gave only his SECOND EVER multi year deal to a starter not currently under contract with the team, to Kevin Correia is so bizare. I'm sure his arguement would have been, well if I didn't give him 2 years we wouldn't have gotten him. So what? You could have gotten the same quality pitcher in a month or two for one year. The money's not the issue, the years and the fact that now he won't possibly be DFA'd like last years screw up Marquis is the problem. No one can be thrilled that we get to discuss Correia's role with the team at this time next year too.
  8. I think most people think Diamond is due to regress. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop anyway.
  9. So if Appel is the pick at #4 in the June draft, does he go right into the #3 spot in the rotation or does he still get sent to Ft. Myers?
  10. I would have rather had Pavano at that price, and Pavano's not deluded enough to think he's going to get a two year deal. The worst part about this deal is, unlike Marquis, with that 2nd year attached, no way will the Twins DFA him in June if he's getting lit up and a minor leaguer is kicking down the door ready for his chance. He's probably untradeable as well unless the Twins eat most of his contract. So the rotation thus far: Worley, Diamond, Correia, Hendriks, Gibson. Assuming the Twins DO sign another FA starter, Hendricks or Gibson are starting in Rochester or the pen. What happens if everyone stays healthy and the odd man out pitches lights out and deserves a rotation spot? Do the Twins really have it in them to toss their new $10 million starter in the bullpen that quickly? Doubt it. No move would have been better than this move.
  11. *cough*Detroit Tigers*cough* Well you got me there. At least their GM understands pitch-to-contact arms don't work well with a terrible defense and employ four starters with a K/9 of +7.5.
  12. You say that like it's a good thing. The Twins play in a flyball friendly park and possibly have the worst infield defense in the league. Groundball pitchers for the Twins are going to get eaten alive in 2013. Unearned runs will lose you games just as often as earned runs, this defense needs strikeout pitchers and this guy is the exact opposite of that.
  13. I'm sure like most GMs, Ryan misguidedly fell in love with his groundball rate, while simultaniously forgetting his infield defense is awful and this bum lets everyone make contact. Sounds like Ryan was bidding against a Japanese team, Correia must have really been a hot commodity.
  14. So disgusted, why make a move at all if it's Correia. Way to burn all your bonus points with the Revere trade Mr. Ryan, your accumen when it comes to starting pitching is terrible.
  15. So the first multi year deal deal Ryan gives to a starter not already under contract since Bob Tewksbury in 1998 goes to.....Kevin Correa? What the hell is going on here? Rick Anderson must be thrilled that Ryan is trying to sabbotage his job.
  16. Jackson should be a prime target for a risk terrified team like the Twins. Say he signs for 3 years at $39 million. Even if he's not pitching at a $13 million level, his track record says he's not likely to completely crash and burn. He'll give reasonable innings and limit BB while having the actual ability to strike a guy out if the situation is desperate for it. Will he pitch to a $13 million level? Maybe not, but there's little chance he'll pitch below a $10 million dollar value either. He's safe and besides, he's proven to be a very tradable commodity.
  17. Closers/set-up men seem to be more valuable at the trade deadline as that seems to be an area of need for multiple contenders and so often they go down with injury. I'd probably wait to move Perkins unless another Revere-like offer was made.
  18. Awesome way to get to know our guys. His answer to the quesion about what he learned in E'town was interesting. He said he learned a lot defensively but there was not a lot of learning offensively. Is that intentional? I can't imagine they make players wait until full season ball to begin working on the offensive improvements.
  19. Hopefully his glove rubs off on Sano and Rosario.
  20. I might like it better if my GM hadn't already over-valued Ervin Santana and Jeremy Guthrie. If those guys are your number two and three arms, your rotation isn't very impressive.
  21. It's incredible, isn't it? I have no illusion of competing next year, and I've been on the rebuild bandwagon since before last season, so unless the Twins change their minds and go after Marcum or Jackson on a multi year deal, I couldn't care less if they sign the other junkballers as rental players. However, to rip on those that DO want to see some free agent action is a load of crap seeing as the GM flat out lied to the fans, specifically those that follow this site. Ryan said he was going after a "pretty darn good" pitcher, John's quote not mine. http://twinsdaily.com/twins-talk/3801-article-terry-ryan-twins-will-chase-pretty-darn-good-pitcher.html Now unless we find out Ryan is making a play for Sanchez, we know that was not true, as reports from LE3 have refuted that the Twins have made any offers to any of the other top arms. Ryan was just on the baseball network the other day and said you can make offers but "sometimes you can't give money away." Sneaky, sneaky. The implication was that the Twins were TRYING to sign guys but they wouldn't take the offers, what it likely meant was, "We ain't giving our money to those bums." There is no obligation for Ryan to be straight with us, but by deceiving the fans with the hope that the rotation will be improved via free agency, he forfeits his right to be defended by Twins homers.
  22. Antoine Walker is a terrible businessman, Magic's done pretty damn well for himself. He's invested in so many different projects some are bound to fail. I doubt his ventures have filed bankruptcy anywhere near as often as Donald Trump's do. Trump sure seems to know how to turn a profit.
  23. Well assuming they won't compete with the big pockets over Sanchez, and if we are to believe LE3, that the Twins won't pursue Marcum or Jackson, there's no other pitchers any reasonable fan should give two wet farts about.
  24. People seem to be sugesting saving money for international signings and draft picks. Can't happen, teams can't spend freely there now, they are both capped.
  25. Good breakdown but there are many more options than those. At the bare minimum, we already know Liriano has an offer on the table. Though unlikely, I don't think ruling out Marcum and Jackson actually rules out Sanchez. If the Twins are looking toward the future, it may mean the are ruling out guys in the 2-3 year range. If they are looking for a pitcher who they can count on when the team is ready to re-contend, they may see Sanchez as the only legit arm aside from the too expensive Greinke. For the record,I'm not Sanchez's biggest fan, but I wouldn't be shocked if he's what Ryan thinks he is saving his payroll for.
