I just looked up to see who is pitching for Ft Myers on MiLB.com, and turns out Randy Rosario is pitching tonight meaning Tyler Jay is being skipped. What's up with Jay? Is he injured or is he just being skipped to help limit his innings?

I think you are thinking of Fernando Romero of the pitcher who just got called up to Ft Myers.

So what is the point in keeping Felix Jorge in Ft Myers? I'm sure there are roster moves that can be made now to accomadate Jorge. A sub 2 ERA this long into the season is reason for promotion, plus Sam Clay can be called up from Ceder Rapids to take Jorge's spot in the rotation.

Article: Mauer Outage
FormerMinnasotan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Mauer personally. I just have to think as a ball player he has already hit his peak and is starting to decline a bit. I don't know why, but perhaps it has to do with his concussion and maybe even just being a catcher as well (taking a worse beating than any other position players). Maybe too his is trying too hard on a terrible team so his hitting approach has been seriously affected. But I would say this: Joe over all is the best most reliable hitter for this Twins team and far from the reason the Twins have been this bad. -
Looks like Berrios is hitting his stride, just like he has done for most of his career. I wouldn't be offended if he pitches one or two more starts in AAA. Anything extra will give Berrios more confidence heading back to the Bigs. I especially like seeing his control/command is at the level we are used to seeing. Also, I continue to be impressed with Fernando Romero. Not only does he have over powering stuff, but his control is much better than most thought it would be (6 walks in 40 innings). Add to the fact he is still pretty green makes me think Romero possibly could have more upside than any of our pitching prospects (including Jose Berrios).

Looks like Kohl is still struggling to generate strike outs. This seems to be a trend since he first started in the minors. At what point do we accept he might not reach the lofty expectations we have for him (it's rare that frontline starters average less than 7 k's per 9 anymore).

Nice debut in Ceder Rapids for Lachlan Wells. 5 1/3 ip 0 runs 0 walks and 3 k's. Is there much upside to him? From what I have heard his height (5'8" I think is what he is listed) might limit his potential. But at 19 do you all think he might be better than a bottom of a rotation starter?

Article: Setting Up For The Second Half
FormerMinnasotan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
By late July or early August Jose Berrios needs to be in the rotation for good this year. He's starting to get on a roll and as long as he looks like he is improving his command and control it's time to let him loose. He couldn't be worse the second time around as I am more convinced his struggles were due to nerves, I don't think he will have that problem this time.- 96 replies

Overall it looks like a successful debut for Gonsalves (much better than Kohl Stewart's debut). I'd suspect as time goes on Gonsalves won't give up as many hits. If I have a concern it'd be his walks (4 in 5 innings). He wasn't great at Ft Myers with his control either. Does that look like something that can be fixed?

That's what I figured. I mean Stewart and Gonsalves were going to get promoted first anyways due to their time in Ft Myers last year. Jorge though has to be a bit of a surprise how well he has done. He was good in Ceder Rapids last year, but wow he has been very good (even if the k's aren't quite there yet) in Ft Myers.

Don't forget about Lewis Thorpe. I mean yeah he might not pitch at all this year due to him coming down with mono, but before him getting Tommy John sugurey he was looking like a better pitching prospect than even Gonsalves or Stewart. Next year for Thrope should be a good one.

Looks like Jorge needs be promoted to Chattanooga as well. A 1.58 ERA?? Plus I think the Twins have to either put Jorge on the 40 man or risk losing Jorge in the Rule 5 draft. Having Jorge in AA ball would justify Jorge's 40 man spot better.

Article: Elizabethton Twins Roster Preview
FormerMinnasotan replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not that it matters too much but according to MiLB.com Aussie pitcher Lachlan Wells is on the Elizibethton roster as well. But he is not listed in this article. Is Wells pitching here or is there an error with the MiLB roster. Just wondering.- 45 replies

The issue for me in regards to Berrios is he is struggling in Rochester as well as with the Twins. It really seems like the Twins have been unable to get Berrios to the "next level". His control is still off and his command is still shaky as evidenced by the increase in his home runs given up this year. Hopefully this is only temporary for Berrios, but given the history of the Twins inability to develop players (especially starting pitchers) to their top potential it wouldn't surprise me at the same time if Berrios isn't quite as good as advertised. I'm not blaming Berrios, I put the blame on poor player development and a lack of solid coaching. If Berrios for example was in the St Louis Cardinal organization I'd bet he WOULD be a top of the rotation starter given his track record, his stuff, work ethic, and willingness to learn.

Happy to hear about Romero getting promoted to Ft Myers. I'm sure he won't pitch too much there as he probably has a real innings limit, but that sets him up well for next year to take a real jump. It'll be good to promote Jorge and Gonsalves to AA ball to further their development. To be honest I am impressed with Jorge's development, especially after a rough first time through Ceder Rapids.

First I hope I am wrong (I would love Berrios to be as good if not better than advertised). Secondly why is he struggling so much. A few clunkers are normal as he is human, but honestly most of the season for Berrios has a struggle. That's no like Berrios. At the rate Jose is pitching he won't even be called up in September as he can't even dominate AAA hitters right now. Sorry, just frustrated in the whole season and with Berrios' and Gonsalves' recent struggles it is hard to be over joyed when our top prospects aren't playing up to their potential.

Does Jorge have a solid future with the Twins? I ask that as the Twins are likely to have to need to trade higher ranked pitching prospects to get something in return. I guess for now the "untouchable" pitching prospects are Berrios, Jay, Stewart, Gonsalves, and Fernando Romero. I see It that the Twins will have to trade either Jorge, Lewis Thorpe, or Randy LaBlanc as part of a trade deal or the deal won't be done. Thoughts?

I disagree, just look at Jose Berrios. Stud starter until this year and mysteriously the Twins can't translate Berrios' top tier talent into a top tier starting pitcher. It'll be the same when Stewart, Jay, Gonsalves, and Romero come up to the bigs. Pathetic, really...

I agree about Romero. I think if he stays healthy he has more upside than any starter prospects right now. As long as Romero improves and adjusts well in each level of the minors he may be a bonafide ace prospect.

Understandable. In my opinion with him overpowering A ball hitters it would be good to send Romero to Ft Myers, but then again he had what 3 starts in '14 so they might need to see more of what he can do. If healthy next year I think Romero could challenge how fast he gets promoted, especially if he dominates other levels like he is doing now. Upper 90's fastball and low 90's slider, sheesh if he develops right he could have a higher ceiling than Berrios, Stewart, Gonsalves, Jay, or Thorpe. My concern is Romero throws the slider so hard it might take it's toll on him.

Great starts for Jay and Romero. On the topic of Romero, what would be his timeline to be promoted to Ft Meyers. It's not like Romero is in Ceder Rapids because he has not pitched well, he is there now due to injuries that kept him out since 2014. I think he could be a pitcher they move through the ranks more aggressively due to the fact injuries are his only issue this far.

I agree on Jay, he looks to be as good if not better than advertised. I think Jay will end up as a higher ranked starting pitching prospect than even Gonsalves, eventually. Don't get me wrong, Kohl Stewart has pretty much done all that has been asked of him, I just don't see a huge improvement from last year to this year. And if Gonsalves' fastball is clocked as fast as 97, he might still have even more potential than most Twins brass might see.

Well despite the loss Gonsalves dominated his last start, went 7, gave up 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), no walks and 8 k's. Is he going to be promoted after the FSL All Star break? Not to hate on Stewart, but Gonsalves has been much better than Stewart has been in every minor league stop thus far. I might be in the minority, but as of right now Gonsalves is a better prospect than Stewart.
