Thanks for informing me on what happens when a player is removed from the 40 man. Somebody else might find use in Rosario, I just honestly think we don't need him, especially if he takes a 40 man spot away from Jorge or Romero (they have real upside IMO).

I guess it depends on if the Twins need to make a spot on the 40 man for Fernando Romero and Felix Jorge and Rosario is blocking either of them. To me both Romero and Jorge have a much higher upside than Rosario and it would be better to lose Rosario in the Rule 5 rather than Romero or Jorge.

Article: Second Half Storylines
FormerMinnasotan replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Berrios isn't up by the end of July then there is something wrong with the front office. Berrios is just as good as Milone and Nolasco right now. Continuing to trot out Milone and Nolasco in the rotation prove as much that the Twins (much less Terry Ryan) don't care about winning.- 39 replies

I can see where you are coming from. I know one of Gonsalves' strengths is his adaptability pitching wise. It defiantly looks like he has made huge strides improving his pitching arsonal (especially improving his breaking balls).

Of all the starter's k/9inning rates I am most impressed with Stephen Gonsalves. His 9.0 K/9 in Ft Myers was somewhat expected considering it was his second time through in Ft Myers. But if my calculations are correct Gonsalves' k rate has jumped to 13.4k/9 in Chattanooga (30 k's 20.2 innings pitched). That's crazy, especially when I still remember in 2014 Jose Berrios' k/9 rate fell dramatically when he transitioned from A+ ball to AA ball.

No, but if Gonsalves keeps this up he should be a September call up next year.

I also saw on MLB.com that Stephen Gonsalves was the minors top performer last night. There was a nice write up about his performance last night.http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/189469964/stephen-gonsalves-among-top-prospects-tuesday/

Great start for Gonsalves. Most importantly no walks and now sports a nice 3.49 ERA. I have always liked Gonsalves, but with how he has pitched overall (especially his k numbers since being promoted) I have to think Gonsalves is as legit of a pro prospect as Jose Berrios, Kohl Stewart, and Tyler Jay.

Unless the Twins rid themselves of Tommy Milone and Rickey Nolasco and bring up Berrios things won't be better for the Twins. I do see the youngsters are really starting to contribute offensively, but until the weak links in the rotation are let go, it will be the same old in the second half of the season.
-
I am not concerned as much for Kohl Stewart or Stephen Gonsalves if they struggle a bit. AA ball is considerably tougher than A+ ball. I'm sure both guys will start in Chattanooga next year and be far better than what they show this year.

I just read the recap of last nights game, and it said Sam Clay is starting tonight's game. I would have thought it would be Romero's turn in the rotation, but it isn't.

It won't be that late, unless Berrios forgets everything that has been working for him.

Wierd that Tyler Jay is slated to start in Ft Myers even though he just was promoted to Chattanooga. Too bad for Berrios. Since this start didn't go so well, I'd have to assume the Twins will keep Berrios down for at least another 2-3 starts since his control and command were off. Not that I am complaining as I want Berrios up when he is truly ready for the Majors.

Hopefully tonight will be Berrios' last start in Rochester. He has been impressive lately especially showing the command and control we have come to expect from him. The only thing I have concern with (and it is just a little concern) Berrios is his shrinking k numbers in his last two starts. Again it is right now a minor concern for me.

Happy to hear about Felix Jorge's and Tyler Jay's promotion to Chattanooga. Well deserved for both. I guess that puts my theory of Jorge being traded to rest (I can live with being wrong). If Tyler Jay is moved to the bullpen I just wonder how that helps Jay continue to develop as a starting pitcher. It seems like a world of difference in going all out in 1-2 innings and crafting a game plan to go 5-9 innings. Also, happy to see Gonsalves out dual Carson Fullmer (White Sox prospect), and only give up 3 hits and no runs in his third AA start. Yeah for the first time I think we are seeing some growing pains from Gonsalves, but I am also encouraged that if anything his strike out rate has gone up. To me it proves he has true swing and miss stuff. I think like Stewart Gonsalves will adapt and thrive in AA ball. His stuff is exceeding what anyone thought possible from him and his ability to be a student of the game as a pitcher bodes well for him succeeding in the majors. Provided of course he improves his control and command.

I agree on Thorpe. Plus the fact that Fernando Romero has passed Thorpe up as a better starting pitching prospect adds more reason that Thorpe may not be protected by the Twins.

Impressive list, love to see Berrios and Romero on this list. I have got to say though, Felix Jorge has impressed me a lot this season. I knew he had a good season last year and has seemingly improved a ton this year. I can't wait to see Jorge join Kohl Stewart and Steven Gonsalves in Chattanooga. He more than deserves a promotion, and I hope Jorge continues to improve to be an even better pitching prospect.

Ok that does make a lot of sense. To me it seems like the Twins are just dangling Jorge by keeping him in Ft Myers. I strongly believe Jorge has started more than enough games in Ft Myers to prove he needs to be moved up. It seems curious as to why he isn't in Chattanooga yet. Perhaps though he will get moved up as soon as Jose Berrios is called up by the Twins.

That what I feel. To me Felix Jorge is just like Chih Wi Hu last year. A pitcher who probably will be at best a #3 starter or lower. I think Jorge is alright, but I'd rather trade him than trade Gonsalves, Fernando Romero, Kohl Stewart, Tyler Jay, or Lewis Thorpe. I mean with the Twins being sellers at the trade dead line I can see them trading a better young arm to try to get something good in return.

My thought is he'd be an add on with Nolasco. Just my opinion. Otherwise he should be in Chattanooga, clearly he has dominated A+ ball.

Still no promotion for Jorge dispite a 1.5ish ERA? I could be wrong, but to me it seems like Jorge is the Twins trade bait in the minors. I mean if Felix was promoted to Chattanooga and struggles a bit, his trade stock drops. But if he keeps posting a great ERA and having dominant starts in Ft Myers some team will have interest in him, that's just my own opinion.

Ok, makes sense. Looking at Jay I get a sense he could be a very special starter, so since this is his first year as a starter as a professional I think it is smart if he struggles a bit to sit down, rest and learn where things are going wrong.

Article: Long-Term Woes
FormerMinnasotan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins could have a better turn around, if they ever figured on how to develop our top tier minor league talent. If most major league scouts feel that Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano, Jose Berrios, and Max Kepler should be good Major Leaguers then where are the results? I mean some teams (like the Chicago Cubs) have done an excellent job in turning their star prospects into star players. The Twins stink because they can't develop any one period. If they do we will be closer to at least a .500 team.- 37 replies

Tough start for Gonsalves. Over all I am not worried. It is only his 2nd AA start. He'll learn from this. That said Gonsalves has 14 k's in 8.2 innings at Chattanooga.
