  1. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9309126.gif You can put it on the board... YES! This week we are joined by lifelong Chicago White Sox fan Tom Flynn (@Mighty_Flynn) to check in on what's been happening on the South Side of Chicago since the season came to a close. We check in on just about every relevant ex-Twin, including Johan Santana who threw off a mound for several teams and Matt Garza signing with the Brewers. Eric takes the gang through a quick round of pepper and eventually we get around to discussing other happenings in baseball, including the new rule concerning collisions at home plate. Strangely enough, Drew Butera is mentioned a handful of times throughout the podcast and there is even talk of a dog running a sausage race. Source
  2. The highlight of this week's episode is an interview with Josh Duggan (@oldmanduggan) of Royals Review to talk about what's been happening with our division rival's over in Kansas City. We review their off-season and make predictions about the future of the division in 2014 and beyond. You can download the new Talk to Contact (@TalkToContact) episode via iTunes or by clicking here. http://puckettspond.com/files/2014/02/KGrHqFrMFJkMHsNsBSbcyierw60_1-300x279.jpgAt one point during the podcast Paul professes the strangest fantasy a man has ever had involving another man's forearms, Jay Corn predicts the Twins to somehow win 83 games and Eric talks smack about his mother to his twin brother. Twins topics were also covered. Spring has sprung and the Twins are all down in Ft Myers for spring training and everyone is in the best shape of their lives. We discuss some notable signings from around the league take a look at Twins minor leaguer and 2013 draft pick Ryan Walker and course discuss what we're drinking and recommend traveling to Alaska. The boys have their potty mouths on this week, so if you're listening near small children you may want to turn the volume down. Thanks for the download. You can follow Cody on Twitter (@NoDakTwinsFan) or read his writing at NoDakTwinsFan, and you can find Eric on Twitter (@ERolfPleiss) and read his writing at Knuckleballs, and you can find Jay Corn on twitter @Jay__Corn! 4. This week on the podcast we discuss the nature of government work and pushing children at work. You can download the new Talk to Contact (@TalkToContact) episode via iTunesor by clicking here.http://puckettspond.com/files/2014/02/Ethan+Mildren+Pittsburgh-300x200.jpg Last week we talked about Ethan Mildren when we went Down on the Pond, this week we talk to Ethan Mildren. He tells us all about his offseason workouts, his goals for 2014, and what it has been like transitioning from college baseball to Minor League baseball. We also discuss MiLBer Zach Larson, recent Twins news including Terry Ryan's health and the waiver claim of Brooks Raley. And of course, we talk about all the beer we can drink, and all the news from around the league. 89 minutes of fun. Thanks for the download. 5. I'm not sure the Mariners need back of the rotation guys. Their system has plenty of pitching talent that can come in and fill any back of the rotation voids. I like the idea of moving some SP depth from the organization, I just don't see the M's giving up a valued prospect in return. The M's need position players who don't play DH/1B/2B, not more arms.
  6. I am on record as predicting 75-77 wins for the club this year, but I think anything over 70 and 2014 will be a success in Twins Territory. I'm more concerned about young players developing, maturing and finding their groove at the big league level.

  8. The signing this off-season that I am most confused by is Paul Maholm to the Dodgers for 1.5 mil plus incentives. He likely starts the season out of the bull pen despite putting up numbers similiar to Arroyo over the past several seasons and being considerably younger. Is there something in his medicals or did he just REALLY want to play in LA?
  9. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTRIKE-OUT! K rates are rising across baseball, it's no surprise that bad teams are striking out. Hopefully 2014 sees a change in the Minnesota dugout. I like the Twins to produce more offense this year, but how much better than can be remains to be seen. There are a lot of young guys in the dugout and more on the way. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Twins continue to lead the league in K's or be very close to the top. It's going to get better, but it's going to be a long time coming.
  10. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9234858.jpg This highlight of this week's podcast is an interview with Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) of MLB Pipeline to talk about Twins prospects. Jim answers questions about all of the top prospects in the organization Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano, Alex Meyer, Kohl Stewart and then some. In addition to the interview this week's show also includes a discussion on what a successful 2014 Twins season means to each of the podcast hosts, the creation of the Ethan Mildren (@Emildren4040) fan club. Ethan was the Minnesota Twins' 2013 12th round draft pick out of the University of Pittsburgh. Source
  11. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400-169x169+0+4_9209563.jpg After taking a week off to meet up in person at Twins Fest and the Winter Meltdown, the Talk to Contact boys are back at it again. After discussing some minor happenings in Twins Territory, including Chuck Knoblauch's eventual enshrinement in the Twins Hall of Fame, this episode is dominated by prospect talk, specifically a little game called the Franchise Futures Game. We cover most of the top prospects in the Twins system and debate how important each prospect is to the Twins organization as a whole. All that and more on this week's episode. Source
  12. This week on the Talk to Contact podcast I can promise you no Alex Rodriguez talk, honest. You can download the new Talk to Contact (@TalkToContact) episode via iTunes or by clicking here. http://puckettspond.com/files/2014/01/may480_tfxh1pn0_hfsejsy0-300x168.jpg This week's episode is highlighted by a candid interview with Minnesota Twins pitching prospect Trevor May (@trevmay54, or on soundcloud: DJ MAZR). Aside from talking with Trevor, we have a lively discussion concerning who we think will be on the 25-man roster when the Twins break camp and leave Florida this spring (the first, of what will likely be many such discussions as the first game of the season approaches). Also discussed are the non-roster invites to big league camp, listeners from around the globe, and the usual banter and beer talk.Come for the Trevor May interview, stay for the beer. 14. Ryan Doumit! except he won't break out for the Twins. I like Arcia and Gibson to rebound in 2014 and have strong performances. Does Joe Mauer count if I'm predicting him to mash 20+ bombs now that he's moved out from behind the plate?

Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports We snuck in some hall of fame talk towards the end of the podcast, but for the most part we stayed away from the hall (Just like Jack Morris - ZING!). This week we feature Stuart Taylor, the Twins 2013 3rd round draft pick, we talk about what Eddie Rosario's 50 game suspension and Miguel Sano's possible Tommy John surgery could mean for their development and Twins debuts and argue over whether the Twins should sign a couple of the free agents who are still out on the market, most notably Johan Santana and Stephen Drew. We are also joined this week by special guest Graham Womack of Baseball Past and Present (@grahamdude) to talk about the 50 best players not in the HOF. Thanks for the download. 17. You have my support.#Eddie400
  18. The BBWAA is adding electronic media writers, but it's going to be another decade before we see any number of those guys voting for the HOF. Be patient. The BBWAA is getting smarter, it's just going slow.
  19. How about those guys on the Talk to Contact podcast. I hear one of them lives out in Seattle and is roundly considered to be the most handsome man in the greater Seattle area, surgically attached two cheetahs to a kid's legs, a cannon to his arm, and webbed the fingers of his left hand. The super prospect is being raised in his basement which is a super-facility. If A.T. Grade turns out to be a true 80 grade prospect, I suspect we'll be hearing about more than just Twins baseball on the Talk to Contact podcast. As for GatG, they bring solid talk when they get to the baseball. I liked them more in the early days, but I don't listen any less now. As a Twins fan living in Seattle, it's nice just to hear a couple guys having a conversation loosely centered around Twins baseball. Next time you get annoyed with their non-baseball talk, crack a beer yourself, put your legs up on the coffee table and hit fast forwarded on your audio device. There is goodness to be found.
  20. Brad, True or False: The Twins should sign J.D. Drew to play SS, give him 3 years and somewhere aroudn $10mil/year. EDIT: Stephen Drew
  21. Joe Mauer Resolutions: drink something besides white milk. Get a tattoo. Join Twitter.
  22. I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of Florimon and if the Twins do not sign Drew (and I'd be tickled pink if they do) I think that Eduardo Escobar very well may supplant him as the everyday SS by the end of the season. I think Doc adds some necessary rebuttals to your article, but overall I agree with both of you that signing Drew would be an immediate and significant improvement. I don't know if this team is ready to compete this season, and Drew will almost assuridly be better this season than next, but with no better SS options on the market next season, Drew may still be the best FA option. The Twins continue to be linked to FA starting pitching, Garza, Arroyo, and even Tanaka. If the front office is able to land either Tanaka or Garza, I think the upgrade of Drew would put the Twins in position to contend this season. Would it make them World Series contenders? Probably not, but Tanka or Garza coupled with Drew along with the other off-season additions would put the Twins back to relevance. There's money to be spent, and sacrificing a 2nd round pick is a price that I'd be willing to pay. Continuing my thought, I wonder if signing Drew would make Garza more agreeable to a reunion in Minnesota.
  23. Episode 65 is out for your listening enjoyment. Happy New Year from all of the gang at Talk to Contact. We debated titling the podcast after Twins Coach Nelson Prada who wore #65 a few years ago, but anytime Tom Kelly's zubaz come up on conversation you are required to title said conversation after those wonderful pants. You can download the new Talk to Contact (@TalkToContact) episode via iTunes or by clicking here.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] http://puckettspond.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2014/01/tom-kelley-300x450.jpg After a holiday hiatus the Talk to Contact podcast returns will all of the usual contributors. Up for discussion this week is Chris Colabello declining a trip to Korea, the make-up of the Twins opening day outfield, former Twins making comebacks and a rousing of debate of whether or not Kurt Suzuki will play a meaningful role for the Twins in 2014. We go down on the pond and take a look at the Twins 2013 4th round draft pick, Stephen Gonsalves (LHP), discuss whether a shandy should even be considered a beer and talk about moves from around the rest of the MLB, including possible landing spots for Masahiro Tanaka and the potential for the Houston Astros to contend in the AL West this coming season. All of that and more on this week's podcast. Most notably, this podcast begins with a Minnesota Twins twitter community draft. It was a lot of fun. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it. Thanks for the download.
