  1. That last one did not look like a strike to me.
  2. Happy birthday! [video=youtube;SiXCZ-Ew0b0]
  3. Thanks for all you did this season to make these games bearable, and congratulations on the new baby.
  4. Thanks for all of your contributions this season, my friend!
  5. Given the Twins' history with concussions and the dollars that they have committed to Mauer, I think that it would be a bad idea to let him player catcher any more. On the other hand, if I had time I would like to work with some engineers to develop a catcher's helmet that absorbs more of the energy from a fouled baseball. The shock absorbers on a car absorb a lot of energy and it seems to me that the same principal (and other principals of physics) could be applied to make catchers' helmets a lot better.
  6. I agree that Plouffe is primarily responsible, and I am merely wondering whether a manager who is particularly good at working with young players might help Plouffe turn it around. I may be totally wrong, but it seems to me that if we could somehow transplant Punto's brain into Plouffe's body we could have a player with HOF potential.
  7. That last play proves to me that Plouffe can play good defense, when his head is in the game.
  8. I understand what you are saying. But taking Plouffe as an example, it seems to me that he has the talent, the tools and the potential to be a silk purse. What if he had a manager who met with him informally several times a week to help him focus his skills and who gave him a lot of positive reinforcement? And what if the Twins had a manager who had a detailed strategy for getting the most out of each player? Maybe Gardy is doing all this and more. And obviously the Twins had some players who lack potential. But I keep wondering whether better managing and coaching might have resulted in an overall better attitude and more than a few additional wins.

  10. I keep wondering whether the Twins would have had a much better season this year if they had Francona as their manager.
  11. My sense is that Plouffe has all the tools to be a decent fielder and an excellent hitter, and his tragic flaw is a lack of concentration and resolve. Or maybe he is a victim of a lot of small injuries.
  12. I was pleasantly surprised by Parm's fielding, but it seems to me that there is some problem with his hitting that may or may not be fixable.
  13. Brian's game thread setups have been a highlight of this season for me, and I am grateful for all of Brian's hard work.
  14. If the Twins lose today and tomorrow and the Cubs can win a game, that could be good for a better draft pick next year.
  15. I am at my office and will be following it on cbssportsline.com. No cable TV at my office.
  16. JB, it has been great having you here, and I join the chorus of appreciation for RB.
  17. Here is an article about players and a manager who don't want to play for the Mariners because the team is so bad. I suspect that this also applies to the Twins to some extent.
  18. I feel sorry for the Rangers. They are winning today but seem unlikely to get any help from the Twins.
  19. Welcome Rookie. Please feel free to participate if you ever want to join in.
  20. I wonder what odds I could get in Vegas on Gardy getting to 1,000 wins this season.
  21. If I were the Rangers I would be looking to punish the Twins next season.
  22. Chief was never in the Air Force. That's a common misconception. "USAF" stands for United Southern Assyrian Fighters.
