  1. Ah crap, my apologies. Move along - nothing to see here.
  2. I see that the low pitching staff strikeouts article got removed, which I posted earlier. I get it - it is pretty crappy that our pitchers can't strike anyone out. But what is so wrong with a statistical analysis article (and well done, at that) that it needs to be removed from letting people read? Are we only allowed to post positive articles now that will glow optimism?

  4. Point taken. I searched all MLB and it included unqualified, so I didn't take much notice to the names ahead of him.
  5. A bit unrelated, but it looks like he ranks very highly this year in CS%. Looks like he would be about 3rd with at least 500 innings caught. A bit off track, but refreshing nonetheless.
  6. I'm replying to this before I read the whole thread, so forgive me if this gets touched on later.. purely speculation on my part, but does it have anything to do with paying over slot at all for upside? Not having high picks isnt necessarily a kiss of death for collecting talent, but if the Twins save money on high floor guys (until recently), the flip side would be overpaying for high ceiling. Is this what the Cardinals have done, or have they been better at the Twins draft strategy than the Twins themselves?
  7. And the basepaths were uphill every way?
  8. I thought it was a pretty entertaining read ...and depressing at the same time.
  9. Saw this posted on the Star Tribune twitter feed and didn't see it posted anywhere on the site: Twins Warn Buxton: Triples Are "Showing Off" - Twinkie Town My personal favorite:
  10. That is where you are at the intersection of 'loyalty' and 'pay people'.
  11. I'm not advocating we should trade him to the Yanks. I'm just saying there is clearly a reason they are interested in him.
  12. Morneau would absolutely rake in Yankee Stadium, and I assume the Yankees know that.
  13. Ah yeah. I forgot about contract length.
  14. Why don't you try to get the Rangers to eat some money and go for Andrus instead? That at least seems more realistic and in the realm of possibility.
  15. Plouffe has to do some damage against a lefty eventually, right??
  16. No. Home runs are not balls in play.
  17. What exactly happened to Dedunos strikeouts? Did that say 24 in 42 innings? Holy teaching to pitch to contact. I guess his walks are way down too..
  18. To answer the original question at hand, I don't think it is the fact that the Yankees are in the Twins heads - I think it is that we just don't match up well against them. They are typically built with a bunch of power hitters that see a ton of pitches and don't strike out, whereas our low strikeout, low walk batting practice pitchers usually feed right into their wheelhouse. I will admit that when watching most games, it really doesn't seem like we can't hang with them in games - it usually does come from our own unraveling.

  20. I figured this would brighten everyone's Friday: 2013 MLB Team Pitching Stats - Major League Baseball - ESPN And such a sigh of relief, Perkins doesn't lead the team in strikeouts anymore! Minnesota Twins 2013 Pitching Statistics - ESPN
  21. While I'm not sure how much it would change the number... you should probably be looking at the team's blown saves... not the individual. There is a reason that some players haven't blown more saves (see also: Valverde, Jose & Marmol, Carlos). It's because you don't put in a spot to blow any more or you get DFA'ed. EDIT: http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/pitching/sort/blownSaves/type/expanded/order/true
  22. I actually jumped into this because the conversation I feel is a nice change of pace from everything. Conceptually, I do find this stuff very interesting. (side note, I just grabbed PA in my numbers. I could have grabbed AB but I didnt, so shame on me perhaps). Oh, and if we can't discuss combining two non-sensical measures, then what on Earth ARE we supposed to discuss?
