  1. I think the Twins should try and revolutionize baseball. We have hitters with extreme power but the capability to strike out a ton too. What if we make a lineup that alternates high OBP guys with high power guys? If we are able to connect on 2 or 3 home runs a game from the power guys and have high OBP guys on base then theoretically we could do some damage. Sano, Park, ABW, Arcia, Vargas. We have the pieces to make this happen! Have the on base guys look for walks and the power guys try and mash every ball they see. Makes for some exciting baseball to watch when every other at bat comes from a power bat. Have 3 or 4 guys hit 30-40 home runs...I like the sound of that! (just don't think about what our defense would look like...) PS- this is not a serious post...fun to think about though!
  2. I always think that it is funny when posters on TD become experts in the art of strength and conditioning. There are always debates about whether a general strength routine (dead lifts, heavy squats, olympic lifts) or sport specific movements (utilizing bullpen/batting practice sessions, increased trunk flexibility) is more beneficial in terms of increasing sport performance. Yes the benefit of increased glute strength and hip extension from a dead lift can be helpful in a baseball swing, but will the increased strength benefit the swing of a 32 year old who has had his body beaten up for the large majority of the year for his entire life? I could look into scientific articles to support my opinion that because Joe doesn't work out 6 days a week like JJ Watt flipping 1,000 pound tires, that he is actually helping himself in terms of his baseball performance. But I am just as lazy as Joe is so I don't think I will. Just irks me when we sit here and critique a man's work ethic when we don't even know 5% of the specific info that we need to know what is best and what isn't in terms of a strength routine.
  3. Screw this whole football season starting thing...we got a race to the playoffs on our hands!
  4. Doesn't matter how many times a hitter has seen a curve like that. If he is able to locate that pitch down in the zone in a pitcher's count....gonna continue to be unhittable.
  5. Although the season has taken a turn for the worst, we need to continue to focus on the positives. I for one am very pleased with where the Twins are at. Young players stepping up and showing that the years to come are going to be fun to watch, starting pitching being much deeper than anticipated, finally having a power bat in the lineup (Sano makes it look so effortless), amongst others. I didn't see a season like this coming and it is nice to talk about being contenders. That being said there have been some blunders by the front office. We have young arms in the minors that can hopefully fill voids in the bullpen next year to help fix that gaping leak. Short stop also has options in Santana/Polanco that can work. Catcher is where I see the biggest issue. The pen has blown up this year but weren't we always looking to 2016 and on to be the glory years? I don't see anyone within the system at catcher that can be a integral piece to contending in the years to come. IMO, that is the biggest issue with no trades at the deadline. I continue to have hope that a piece will be brought in though this off season though. With the Twins, it is all about hope for the future. At least I have to continue believing that to stomach losses like the last two to the friggin' Yankees...
  6. No matter how next year plays out it is great to have so many options. Not just options but good options. Love to hear a little positivity on TD. Now with that in mind, Mr. Ryan don't let us down...
  7. I would be curious to know what types of pitches Buxton has been seeing in Rochester. Would hope that he has been learning to hit (or even make contact) with good curve balls. Get him back up ASAP and see if he's made improvements.
  8. With the addition of the bigger leg kick to his swing we need more time to see if he is an overall improved hitter at the plate. Last night is very encouraging with 4 solid hits against a RHP. I agree that after a full year of improved hitting we can then look at his splits more effectively. Loving the look of a healthy Buxton, the new and improved Hicks, consistent Rosario outfield on a nightly basis next year. Kepler and Arcia as bench options maybe?
  9. The real question at the deadline was "do we have the pieces within the system to be contenders 2016 and beyond?" Following the blueprint for the future I believe we do with some issues to address. We all know that SS, C and RP were/are the holes. Jepsen is an upgrade from Boyer and Graham maybe Fien so he addresses the RP some(although we hoped for better). SS we have some internal options and hope Santana can find his way or Polanco can address his fielding issues to become more rounded. With catcher we just don't have the options moving forward that we need. I would have liked a move to address who will be behind the plate next year. If I have to sit through more games with such little confidence at the plate from our catchers it will be tough to handle. Sitting relatively still at the deadline was fine with me to remain hopeful with our younger talent for next year and beyond. Hopefully we can find a way to address our catching conundrum before the waiver deadline or a free agent signing (Wieters maybe?) Balls in your court TR
  10. My list of demands for the FO 1. Bring up Arcia for Robinson. Although Arcia hasn't shown any consistency at all we need power and he can provide that. 2. Bye bye Boyer. No explanation necessary. 3. Lose Duensing. O'Rourke has shown he can be the lefty specialist (and then some) out of the pen. 4. With our depth of pitching in the minors, look to them to fill voids in the bullpen. Atcher, Berrios, Duffey potentially. If anything, those in the MLB haven't seen them before and in the very least that gives them an edge over the options we have now. 5. Give Pelfrey a big ole handshake and say "thanks for pitching well above what we expected" and try and deal him for best available offers. 6. May should fill Pelfrey's spot in the starting rotation. I know he can be a successful reliever but he was and still is one of our top 5 SP options. Play him as such... 7. With the inactivity and disappointingly producing Jepsen at the deadline, all fans over the age of 21 should be comped a free beer as an apology. Thoughts? Shall we start a petition?
