  1. Vargas has some very impressive numbers over the last 10 games: .419/.514/.806 with 3 doubles and 3 homeruns. Pretty good BB and K rates so far at AA as well. One of the few bright spots for the Rock Cats so far this season. I've been fairly skeptical of Vargas, but his early AA numbers are encouraging.
  2. you're only hot 'til you're not
  3. I think this may be my first game thread post. But I just wanted to say that despite the result on the sac bunt attempt, I just don't understand why you would give away an out to a guy that clearly is having serious issues throwing strikes. Fortunately the Tigers decided to give it back.
  4. Thanks for the write up Seth. The score for the Kernels second game is switched around. The Miracle lineup is pretty stacked... too bad they can't siphon some of those runs down to the Kernels. That lineup looks like it is going to struggle to score runs all year. On another note, excited to see what Sunday's starters will do.
  5. about 40 miles south. moved to the area last summer. was thinking about maybe trying to make friday night work, but may have to end up waiting till later in the season. wouldn't mind catching May, I still have high hopes for him.
  6. Unfortunate for me, I was hoping to maybe catch Meyer in Lehigh Valley next week. That doesn't seem too likely.
  7. Has the rotation order been set? Is the way they are listed in the article the projected order?
  8. I think there may have been a typo in the article. I believe it is a best of 5 series. The first two games are in Rochester but the final 3 would all be in Pawtucket.
  9. Mendonca has been pretty incredibly awful. Hopefully, he can develop some control. Eades has also been pretty disappointing for a 2nd round pick out of college pitching in relief in rookie ball. I was thinking he would jump to FtM to start next year ala DJ Baxendale, but now Cedar Rapids seems more likely. Any insights/scouting reports on Eades' performance Seth? Any speculations on his assignment for the start of next year?
  10. on a more serious note, i sure would like to see him blasting those for the red wings in a playoff push. i don't see any reason not to promote him, other than they're getting ready to give him a september call up. but i have my doubts about that possibility
  11. any word on his trot times? pimpin home runs aint easy
  12. not like they really needed it to do so but maybe they'll use that cash to move morneau?
  13. Any chance Lewis Thorpe or Felix Jorge will get some consideration despite only pitching in rookie leagues and not having the top draft pick status?
  14. Just read on Thorpe's twitter page that Saturday was his last start. He's heading to Taiwan for the IBAF World Cup (@lewisT18)
  15. Just saw on his twitter page that he made his last start for the GCL and is headed to Taiwan to pitch for Australia in the ibaf World Cup. That may have something to do with why he was never promoted to E'town this year.
  16. Thanks again for the feedback Seth. I understand that there may be reasons to have Thorpe pitch in E'town next year. My main hope is just that his age is not the reason. Thats why I was wondering about his stuff. I haven't seen anything recent about how his pitches look. I know his stats only tell part of the story. I'll trust that the Twins will do what is right for him. With their reputation for being very conservative, sometimes I just want to see them being a little more aggressive. But I also don't want to see any of their prospects in over their heads. I kind of figure he won't be promoted to E'town this year and was just wondering if there was any precedent for skipping the Appy league or how necessary it would be for Thorpe to spend time at that level. Thanks again for your input. It would be great if somebody could get a question to one of the national writers in a chat or something to see if they have any info about how Thorpe's pitches are developing.
  17. With you on AAA promotions for Rosario and Sano. 1)They deserve to be a part of a playoff push as they earned a playoff spot for FtM. 2)I think they're both ready for the next level. 3) Glynn > Smith
  18. Seriously. Not to mention Rosario 2 for 3 with a double so far. Days like this sure fuel a lot of excitement for the future!
  19. Thanks for the input Seth. I understand that it is a pretty big jump from GCL to MWL, but how much of a difference is there between GCL and Appy? To me, it doesn't seem like a huge difference, but I only really started paying attention last year. It seems like the more notable pitching prospects have little/no trouble transitioning from GCL to the Appy league. So it seems like the Appy league would not be much of a challenge for Thorpe. He'd probably mostly be facing the same types of guys he's faced this year with more draft picks from next year. That just doesn't sound like much of a challenge for him with how he has handled the GCL. The MWL would be a challenge for him, but I think it would be a good challenge. However, part of that depends on where his pitches are at. His numbers tell us that he's been pretty much dominating, but how is he dominating? If he's simply just overwhelming hitters with his fastball, then he may not be ready for the MWL. But if he's got at least two solid pitches, then I think he could at the very least hold his own.
  20. I asked/defended this in the August 24 thread, but is there any chance that Lewis Thorpe skips E'town and goes to Cedar Rapids next year. I was thinking maybe he starts in extended spring training, then heads to CR similar to what Berrios did this year. I realize he's young, but his GCL numbers are ridiculous (far better than Jorge, Rosario, Landa, Hua Lo of last year). I'm also wondering if there are any recent reports on his stuff.
  21. That was an excellent article. The last line killed me though: "But then you see these two young men in person, you realize everything you've heard about them is true, and you can't help but believe, and dream." I made trips to see Cedar Rapids (@ Kane County, I was living in Chicago) and New Britain (@ Reading, I moved to PA) this year. Buxton was sitting with a thumb injury and Sano was being benched for disciplinary reasons.
  22. Julio Urias did it at age 16. Age is just a number. There may be other reasons the Twins decide not to send him to Cedar Rapids, but age should not be one of them in my opinion. Especially for a pitcher who will have a limited number of 'bullets', it does not make sense to have him waste a year in E'town simply because he's only 17. If the stuff and the makeup are there to have a successful year in Cedar Rapids then that is where he should be.
  23. Thorpe with another fantastic outing today. 4 IP 9 K 1 H 1 BB It seems apparent that he won't pitch at E'town this year. I'm wondering if there is any chance he skips E'town altogether and pitches in Cedar Rapids next year. Maybe starting in extended spring training and then making the jump? Has anybody read any recent scouting reports on him?
  24. I just looked at the FtM roster. Both Adam Bryant and Aderlin Mejia are on the DL which may have also had something to do with the moves made concerning Petterson and Boyer. Actually probably more so than my previous post.
  25. I'm responding this without really looking into it, but I'm thinking that maybe they wanted a guy to fill the roster without the need to play everyday. It seems like he replaced Petterson on the NB roster. Petterson is primarily a middle infielder. Right now Santana and Rosario are higher priority prospects than Petterson and need to be playing in front of him. But if they believe Petterson is a guy who is at least a fringe prospect (which he probably is), he needs to be playing every day in order to keep developing.
