We’re grousing because we all know how this is going to end. I’m 38 years old and I’ve never seen them even qualify for a Super Bowl in 31 years of following them. Think about that. Yes it’s great that they’ve overachieved since we all expected them to stink. But at the end of the day, barring a surprise, they’re going to be walking off some field in January with nothing to show for it except another playoff appearance. Just like all the other years. I suppose it’s always possible that they’ll go on a run like some teams do in the postseason, but what are the odds of that. That’s why it would be a little comforting to see them go out and bury some of these lesser teams. At least once in a while. The NFC is wide open after the lions, who I do think can be had. But we’re squeaking by these bad teams. The talent is there in a lot of sports but something seems to be missing.
I guess what I’m saying is, the NFC is having a down year. It wouldn’t take THAT much to get to the Super Bowl. It’s not like there are 5 teams ahead of us. But the in game mistakes are not instilling confidence.
And by the way, there are zero guarantees about next year either. We’re going to be counting on a rookie (who has had zero experience in games that matter and is coming off an injury) to just step in and put up even comparable numbers to what darnold is doing (9th highest passer rating). Again, I guess it can happen. But will it?
