  5. http://calvinayre.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/pete-rose-baseball-betting.jpg Welcome to another Twins Daily Game Thread. I need to open this Game Thread introduction with an apology. Technically today turned out to be a double header. I had the Game Thread introduction last night and today. I probably should have done two Game Thread introductions today but failed at my job. Please forgive my lack of discipline. Rain delays and postponed games can raise holy hell with the MLB schedules this time of year. Now back to business. I had to drive to Rochester, MN today from Minneapolis and figured I would have a little quality time to come up with something funny or witty to lead this Game Thread tonight but came up with nothing. The way things have gone this year its really hard to get excited about this team (with the exception of Dozier...HR 42 today!). Not much to laugh about... So, in order to make our evening more fun regardless of how we play, I thought it would be humorous and exciting to gamble a little bit on the game tonight. This won't be like Pete Rose gambling but there will prizes awarded tonight for winners of each category. I will tally everything at the end of the night and send out awards based on performance. The categories are simple and provide everyone with an equal shot at winning. Here are the categories: 1. Pick the total number of broken bats in the game (players who break bats over their knee count too) 2. How many total coaching visits to the mound for both teams? 3. Total length of game (closest to it without going over wins) 4. Total strikeouts in the game 5. Total stolen bases for the game 6. Pick the click...Choose the Twins player who will have the best night at the plate A few minor rules: You can bet on all categories or just one or two. Totally up to you. Individuals can win in multiple categories. All bets need to be placed no later than the 4th inning. Ties are decided by me. Protests go to Chief for final arbitration. Disclaimers from Moderators: No gambling occurs on the TD Website. TD is not a casino. TD members who do not meet the eligibility requirements to claim a prize should consider the prize void. Prizes are not redeemable for cash or other prizes. TD reserves the right to refuse to award any prize to any person without giving any reason whatsoever. Winners are responsible for all taxes associated with prizes. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited, etc., etc. Step right up and place your bets Twins fans! Go Twins! Lineups: Still pending because of the double hitter today. Will post as soon as they come up. Weather: 68 degrees and overcast skies. Light and variable winds 5-8mph. Chance of rain 20%
  6. I'm going to stay up all night to see this game through!
  7. Raining hard here in Tonka farmstead. Hope my crops don't get any hail. I'll need Farmer to come out and plow it all under (like the Twins).
  8. I wonder why they are still playing Mauer? Amazing.
  9. http://media.cmgdigital.com/shared/img/photos/2013/06/17/8a/2c/bravesraindelay2.jpg Any minute now all 20 fans at the game will leave when the down pour hits.
  10. Good one. How about this one: Farmer pounds nine fence posts into the ground.
  11. I don't think the heavy stuff will come down for awhile
  12. Or this one: Farmer mows down the Twins
  13. That name is awesome. Kind of reminds me of Fred Garvin.
  14. I thought that wrath has already been put forth onto this team.
  15. This was the album cover I meant to put on the intro. Sorry. http://www.teatrionline.com/wp-content/uploads/Traffic.jpg
  16. Welcome to another fun filled, sometimes mostly agonizing Game Thread. With a Twins record of 55 and 96 it can be difficult to stay interested and focused on a team playing this way. Being 32.5 games back at this point of the season can be demoralizing if not downright depressing. Your average fan has moved on from this mess and started watching football or scheduling root canals. For the die-hards, the truly passionate Twins fans out there (if you’re reading this you probably are one) what can you do? After all of the complaining, arm chair quarterbacking and second guessing that’s occurred this season there is only one thing left to do: Fantasize. That’s right, fantasize about next year. Webster’s Dictionary defines fantasize as: to indulge in reverie: Create or develop imaginative and often fantastic views or ideas. I’ve already developed a few imaginative and fantastic ideas for the 2017 Twins franchise. Here they are: • Joe Maddon has a blowout argument with Cubs current GM after winning the World Series. Calls Pohlad and asks to be Twins new manager replacing Molitor (I know Pohlad already said Molitor will be the manager next year but this is my fantasy…stay out of it). • Twins new GM pulls off the trade of the century between 4 teams: Sends out Perkins, Santiago, Light and Boshers for Rick Porcello, J.A. Happ, Jon Lester and David Price. Santana becomes our #5 starter. • Buxton becomes a serious contender for A.L. MVP • The Twins start off April with a 15 game winning streak • Dozier ends season with 52 home runs • Polanco finishes season with a .399 batting average. Just misses hitting .400 (don’t want to over fantasize here) • Kepler ends up with 130 RBI’s and 125 runs • Sano wins a gold glove at 3rd base and hits 53 home runs • Vargas replaces Mauer at 1st base and hits 44 home runs with 145 RBI’s • Mauer goes back behind the plate to finish his career the way he started it. Hits 29 home runs with .310 batting average • Twins win A.L. Central by 20 games • Twins sweep the Yankees in A.L. Championship Series • Twins sweep the Dodgers to win the World Series The band Traffic said it well: Dear Mister Fantasy play us a tune Something to make us all happy Do anything take us out of this gloom Sing a song, play guitar, make it snappy You are the one who can make us all laugh… What’s your 2017 Twins fantasy? Can’t wait to see them below! Go Twins! LINEUPS: TWINS 1. 2B Brian Dozier [R] 2. SS Jorge Polanco 3. DH Joe Mauer [L] 4. 1B Kennys Vargas 5. RF Max Kepler [L] 6. LF Robbie Grossman 7. 3B Eduardo Escobar 8. C Juan Centeno [L] 9. CF Byron Buxton [R] P Jose Berrios [R] TIGERS 1. CF Cameron Maybin [R] 2. 2B Erick Aybar 3. 1B Miguel Cabrera [R] 4. RF J.D. Martinez [R] 5. DH Justin Upton [R] 6. LF Tyler Collins [L] 7. C James McCann [R] 8. 3B Andrew Romine 9. SS Jose Iglesias [R] P Buck Farmer [R] Weather: 70 degrees and overcast skies. High probability for rain 65%
  17. TOTALLY OFFSET! REDEMPTION!
  18. I'm trying to maintain the Twins Daily brand standards. I don't want to be held responsible for bringing them down any further than they already are now.
  19. That's the one. LA Law was good too. She's not Game Thread worthy though. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0-QHYdh5qmc/TZP7kZmssuI/AAAAAAAAAko/azZXdLPCV40/s1600/susan-dey-in-looker-16.jpg
  20. I always thought Susan Dey was kind of cute.
  21. I'll see what I can arrange.
  22. I have Game Thread intro tomorrow night. Any special requests or topics you want covered? Getting into creative mood soon.
