  1. Allowing you to stay up to watch your favorite team win game 7 of the WS is a big enough act of kindness to allow anyone into heaven.
  2. If you were in Chi you would be able to hear the event from your balcony. And probably smell it as well.
  3. I nominate Fighting Hawks.
  4. The very last part, about Cleveland having the second-longest drought (and the longest drought in the AL). My apologies for not being more clear.
  5. I like that nickname as well, but I think almost anything is an improvement over the nickname-that-must-not-be-named. The thing is, in the last year of the Spiders' existence, 1899, they had a record of 30-124. The team's owners also owned another team, the St. Louis Browns, and they transferred the best Cleveland players to St. Louis. This is what prompted the rule that an owner may not own more than one team. That's not really the kind of legacy that one would want to perpetuate.
  6. I also understand the argument that you have to be sure to win game 6 in order for there to even be a game 7, but I think the stronger argument is that you have to have a plan for game 7 in mind while you are managing game 6. It would be interesting to hear Maddon second guessing himself after he has time to process his decisions for a while.
  7. Regarding Martinez making the final out, there were no position players left on the bench to pinch hit. You can make the argument that he shouldn't have been in the game in the first place but there's no way to predict it would be his spot in the lineup that would be up at the end of the game.
  8. But I'd still hire him over almost any other manager in the game.
  9. That's one of the reasons I was hoping Cleveland would win. Plus I guess I default to the AL if I don't have a horse in the race.
  10. We have entered part two of my sig line. February can't get here soon enough.
  11. I was one of the WTF commenters at the time but I think this is a good analysis. BTW, Maddon once ordered Grant Balfour to intentionally walk Josh Hamilton. With the bases loaded. The Rays won the game.
  12. Kudos to the scout who recommended that acquisition.
  13. Look at the radar, everybody. It was the right call to delay for the small but significant squall line, but if this game goes 3 more innings we've got big rain.
  14. I think the umps are making the right call. Stop the game before the top of a new inning.
  15. Molitor gets major grief from the regulars here for bunting when he shouldn't, and the smartest manager in the game calls for one on a 2-strike pitch. Contrarian? Stupid? Bizarre in either case.
  16. Just now checking in to the thread; haven't read the posts. No matter the outcome Maddon is going to be criticized for pitching Chapman in game 6.
  17. Well, sometimes the pitching change works, and sometimes it doesn't. 7-0. And we'll see you tomorrow night.
  18. I heard a factoid on the radio this morning that Cleveland was 28th in attendance this season, ahead of only Oakland and Tampa Bay. And it's an easy drive from Chicago to Cleveland.
  19. If I were Jim Pohlad I'd give him a day, ONE day, to recover and clean out his office in Cleveland. Then be at work bright and early and hit the ground running on Tuesday.
  20. Missed the beginning of the game, just turned it on to see the AL is up 1-0. Keep it up, Clevelands. (I don't care if it appears PC, I avoid referring to them by their nickname.)
  21. Me too. (We celebrated our 25th anniversary a month ago.) We missed the two home ALCS games because we were honeymooning in the USVI but we attended all 4 WS games. We were also both at all the home postseason games in 1987 but we didn't know each other then.
  22. Cut the commercial breaks between innings in half, for one. (As if that would ever happen.) Edited to add that I did not finish reading the thread before I wrote this.
  23. I don't know why I can't get behind the Cubs. I think it might be an American League thing.
  24. Heck, if it's only 3 hours a day we only need nine players. Nobody should ever get worn down when they have 21 hours a day to rest. /sarcasm
