  1. "The hope is no doubt that an outfield of Oswaldo Arcia, Byron Buxton and Aaron Hicks would be the configuration for many years to come. Adding Eddie Rosario as a fourth option would only further the talent that the Twins could employ out of the gate next season." Hicks' cannon in RF will make runners think twice about trying to advance to third base. All he has to do is find a way to hit at least .250. Arcia's defensive deficiencies in LF are not a big issue if he can hit 30+ dingers a year. Rosario would be an excellent fourth OF and, we hope, a satisfactory back-up 2B. And I hear that the other guy is a natural-born CF. If this comes to fruition no team will have a better outfield.
  2. No. No no no no no no no. Santana is the SS of the near future. Do not waste precious development time by making him play CF. We don't want him to play CF. We don't need him to learn to play CF. We have this prospect named Buxton who'll be there soon.
  3. A finer point cannot be put on it. This is the crux of the matter. The Twins (and judging by the number of posts on this thread the vast majority of posters to this board) want and need Aaron Hicks to fully realize his considerable potential. Some players benefit from being pushed too fast and some don't. It seems pretty clear to me that Hicks is in the latter category. If what's best for Hicks means making do with Jordan Schafer for now, so be it. If that means worsening the major league team's 2015 win-loss record, so be it. Only in an emergency (such as Schafer and Robinson both blowing out a knee or something like that) should Hicks be rushed. And moreover, if and when Buxton is promoted to AAA it should have no bearing on Aaron Hicks, other than the fact that with Buxton in the organization Hicks belongs in right field. As for me, I'd guess Mike Quade would be more than happy to write Buxton-8 and Hicks-9 on his lineup card every night.
  4. Bingo. Look at the entire organization from top to bottom. While the major league team happens to be riding a hot wave fueled by a good-hitting lineup, the organization is still rebuilding. As such, the front office should be and appears to be looking at 2016 and beyond as a realistic target for contending for postseason play. Do what's best for Hicks without regard to the major league team's 2015 win-loss record.
  5. By next year I hope I see Arcia as the primary left fielder, Buxton as the primary center fielder and Hicks as the primary right fielder with Rosario as the fourth outfielder and backup second baseman. Hicks can play center when Buxton has a day off but with his arm he can be one of the best defensive right fielders in baseball. Vargas will be the primary DH for now which means Arcia will have to play left to be in the lineup.
  6. There are good reasons to call him up now and there are good reasons not to. What I want the Twins to do is whatever it takes for him to realize his potential and be a contributing part of the Twins outfield in 2016 and beyond. I hope they guess right. And I'll always remember the time he accidentally threw the ball 320 feet on the fly to get Vernon Wells out at third base in Yankee Stadium.
  7. Time to take them seriously? Uh, no. Baseball history is littered with teams that did well for a couple months, then faded away. But for the time being at least it's fun to follow a winning team.
  8. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Hicks has wheels, hands and a cannon.
  9. Because of Hicks' superior defense, if he can hit .250 or so I'd rather have him than Schafer or Robinson. Having Arcia, Buxton, Hicks and Rosario as my four outfielders sounds good to me. Rosario would play in left, Buxton in center, Hicks in center or right and Arcia in left or right.
  10. If I were TR I wouldn't set any timeline. He'll be ready when he's ready. That could be in 1 month or it could be in 1 year. As for me, I'd want to see how he does in AAA. We also need to keep in mind that someone will have to come off the 40-man when he's added.
  11. What is best for a player's development is to face competition at or slightly above his current level and to play as many games as possible. If that happens to be in the majors, then that's where he should be, but at this stage of the rebuilding program player development should trump any attempts at improving the team's 2015 win-loss record.
  12. In the same way that sacrificing a few wins this year for the sake of player development could mean more wins in the future, sacrificing a few butts this year could mean more butts in the future.
  13. Concur, but the W-L record is of minor concern. If they happen to win more games than expected this year, fine. But they should not trade a prospect, ANY prospect, to improve this year's record.
  14. I disagree with the premise of the opening post. The blueprint this year is to continue rebuilding this team for 2016 and beyond. What would make things interesting in the final months of this season has nothing to do with the team's win-loss record. It would be seeing continuing improvement by our best young prospects.
  15. And this is what makes the draft so much more of a crapshoot in MLB compared with the other three major North American sports. Players are draft-eligible at a much lower level of readiness so there will be more early-round misses and more late-round hits. It's also why the draft has so many rounds and why MLB teams have to have large developmental systems. Can you picture NFL franchises having six minor league teams?
  16. Major league teams put their worst fielder in left. I'm still hoping Hicks can pick up his game this year so that in 2016 he can play right, Bux can play center and we can put Arcia in left.
