  1. So during state fair time Dave's threads should be stick a stick in (insert name here).
  2. The Joe M thing reminds me of something someone said to me once. I found out that her name was Lois, and I told her about a club in the Twin Cities called the Lois club. (It actually exists, and you can probably figure out the requirement for membership.) She told me that, yes, she was aware of it. Although she was not a member she said that she had heard that they were a very tight knit group and that everyone was on a last name basis.
  3. Reminds me of this: If someone says, "You have a good one", the correct response is, "Yes, I do."
  4. Dick: Fly ball to short center. The ball was caught by Escobar at the back of the infield dirt.
  5. When do the Twins have to activate him? He's on the 40-man but not the 25-man at the moment.
  6. Jacob Leinenkugel probably made it. Of course, he wasn't born there.
  7. I prefer to refer to him as Big Squishy.
  8. My statement was that I think the Astros can maintain their level of play. They have played very good baseball and I think that will continue. That does not necessarily mean their winning percentage will stay the same, especially during the last couple weeks of the season when they are setting up their team and rotation for the postseason.
  9. https://www.google.com/search?q=blue+lobster&safe=active&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj3v_yN5JvVAhXH7oMKHQCqCyQQ_AUICigB&biw=1440&bih=775#imgrc=fq3iYZoPhauCaM:
  10. This is correct. If Chief were here he would know that the correct response (not answer, because it's not a question) is "yes".
  11. What has four letters, sometimes has nine letters and never has five letters.
  12. Almost. It means that in 40.4% of their games they have given up over 5 runs.
  13. The only way you could go with a 3-man rotation would be to be a division winner and sweep the DS and CS series. Otherwise there would be too many starts on 3 days' rest. Someone can research this, but I bet there have been very few teams to win the WS with only 3 starting pitchers since the format was changed to 4 postseason teams from each league.
  14. Totally irrelevant. The only day being in first place that matters is the last day of the season.
  15. Please note the last four words of my post. Of course teams do and should make trades. If we happen to need a player at one position the goal would be to have a surplus of good players at another position so we would be able to make a trade without leaving ourselves with a weakness.
  16. Neither. I want to scout well, draft well, and sign the right free agents at the right times so we don't have to worry about trading away a player we would rather keep.
  17. That could be the case for our players, but it's equally likely for other teams' players. And the postseason is a larger sample size than it used to be. A team has to win 11 or 12 games against 3 or 4 opponents to be World Champions. Outlier performances are less likely to make a difference compared with, say, 1987. Hoping for flukes is not the way to approach the postseason. Build your organization well and you are much more likely to succeed.
  18. I can make an educated guess where it could go. The name of the game in baseball is, always has been, and always will be pitching. That is especially true in the postseason. It's very rare that offense overcomes good pitching. In this day and age you need four good starters and a solid bullpen to make a serious run at a World Championship. We have neither.
  19. If I voted I'd be in the stand pat group with a proviso: Listen to all offers and sell if it improves the organization as a whole. This team has overachieved and it's obvious (to me, anyway) that we don't have any major-league-ready help in the minors, especially pitching. Buying is very unlikely to get us to the WS, and we need more depth.
  20. I misread. When I saw WC for whatever reason I thought it meant World Champion since that is the goal of competing. And based on that my point stands. AL wild card? Sure, we have a realistic shot at that. And due to the parity in the AL so do about eight other teams. Do I think we should trade away a good prospect to improve our chances to play one game for the privilege of being beaten up by the Astros in the ALDS? Nope.
  21. I (and, I suspect, many others) have a different definition of strong than you do. I rate the Astros, Dodgers and Nats all very strong with Arizona, Colorado and Boston close behind. I think six out of thirty is more than several.
  22. Man, I never thought they'd beat the storm. And they came out as a WINNAH!
