  1. The question is how much of his inconsistency stemmed from poor coaching he received from the Twins organzation?
  2. It does feel good to know that sometimes the futility isn't our problem.*warmfuzzies*
  3. Now I'm speculating on how many homers Park had to have hit this ST to have been considered for the opening day roster?
  4. I assume there is some hyper, next-level thought process here that none of us are privvy to yet. The notion that Mauer will begin to play a bit less this season takes a nose dive when you realize both of his back-ups are now in Rochester.
  5. I guess the plan is to let Park continue to rake against AAA pitching to prove he's not just picking apart low-level, late-inning, spring training guys. I assume Vargas and Park will split DH and 1B duties in Rochester and we'll see one of them sooner than later.
  6. Well- I'm a bit stunned by the lack of Park and the inclusion of DanSan. But here we are...
  7. I'm realizing that this maybe sounded snarkier than I intended. My apologies-- but seriously, it may be the most direct way to get that question answered.
  8. Tune into his Gamercast and ask him?
  9. That's the same video game that Mike Trout is based off of...
  10. Maybe by referring to him as Berlin Bonds we can will him into actually becoming Berlin Bonds.
  11. I understand people "not seeing him as a short stop." But the fact remains that the parent club had a deficiency at the position, and he is an able bodied athlete who's value could improve exponentially by getting innings at the position. You hear all the time about players who improve their defense with repetition and commitment- look at Trevor Plouffe. If you like the kid, value his bat, and want him to stick at the MLB roster-- you should give him every chance to succeed at a position where that is most likely to happen, and where he's most needed.
  12. I suppose one could even make the argument that bringing Mauer up as a catcher despite his body type was ill-advised, and could make the point that if he had converted to 3B after being drafted we'd still be talking our future HOF 3rd baseman and face of the franchise.
  13. I keep shaking my head about this. It's just such a humorous and silly blunder that no one caught for literally a year. Also, don't you think Polanco- seeing that his best natural fit would likely be at SS, would advocate for himself at some point? An extreme, but fairly analogous situation would be Berrios getting to the bigs as a touted pitcher and the Twins finding out that he had only played first base in the minors. I have absolutely no idea how this happened.
  14. Haha yes, it's true. And yes, Polanco. Thanks for the discourse!
  15. Touche' But yes- you're right. I just don't see how he's not taking reps at SS everyday. I know this was discussed in another thread-- but he's also hurting his own earning potential. How is he not doing everything to be a Major League Short Stop???
  16. I'm still not convinced that an athletic, 23 year old with a lifetime of baseball experience cannot improve his defense at Short Stop if he set his mind to it. I feel that Polanco is the SS for time being, and blown away that the team that thought Sano could play RF doesn't think Polanco can play SS. Two wrongs obviously don't make a right- but I just don't understand the lack of urgency in getting him to figure it out. Polanco is young and can hit-- is he a primadonna who refuses to work on his defense? If so, then why not get rid of him?
  17. Twins official site is mentioning his "versatility" every other sentence in their write-up. Mentioning that he plays SS, 2B, and 3B, which seems to contradict most of what I've read so far. In which case, it seems like they're trying to convince us that he's a valuable bench piece, while also ignoring the fact that we already have three guys on the bench who also play SS, 2B, and 3B.
  18. As I said in the previous thread-- It feels like they are DFAing guys with either more potential or higher upside in exchange for guys who either conflict with, or represent downgrades to, players who are already on the roster that aren't being DFA'd.
  19. Right- and he hit 12 bombs in his first few months in a new league, while adjusting to culture, pitching, etc. His numbers were abysmal, but I'd love to see what he can with another year under his belt without the injured wrist.
  20. I remember it well. I remember the hype around talking to the Big Hurt or Piazza. Thomas may have actually put us over the top that season, if Liriano stayed healthy. I also remember the 400 Bar on the West Bank had Rondell White nights on Tuesdays in 2006 where High Life would be the cost of whatever his batting average was that day. Great promotion.
  21. Their names are close, which is why you've gotta keep 'em separated.
  22. I can't help but notice that the Angels currently have 3 youngish/upside-ish players on the roster. Jet Bandy would be a fun get... Also, what is the conversion in regards to a full time starting position player being drafted for a reliever? I.e.- is Plouffe alone enough to snag a Chapman, Storen, or Kimbrel?
