    "One option, in the event that Hicks is in right field, is to platoon him with Oswaldo Arcia" If by platooning, you mean Arcia on offense and Hicks on defense (think football), that is a fantastic idea! If you are thinking baseball, I suggest playing both of them simultaneously in right-field, so Hicks can chase every ball that Arcia misses...Buxton can cover the remainder of the outfield.

    For many pitchers, 100% of maximum velocity produces a loss of movement(stuff) One step on the pitchers learning curve is to determine at what velocity each of his pitches have their best movement, and then learn how to repeat that pitch / velocity.

    It may NOT be that "Their #5 hitter can't hit fastballs", so much as he is "sitting on" off-speed, because he is seeing it so often. I am guessing that when he starts to see more fastballs, he will begin sitting on the fastball and improve hitting fastballs and degrade his ability to hit off-speed pitches.

    That REASON is that, on a steal of 3B, a right-handed catcher's shoulders and feet are already aligned properly to throw to 3B when he receives the pitch. A left-handed catcher's shoulders and feet must be realigned AFTER receiving the pitch resulting in a significant time loss, resulting often in a successful steal of 3B.
