  1. I will eat my hat if I am able to remember that list of things for which you said you will eat your hat.
  2. That is all correctible, if he is actually athletic with good arm strength.
  3. Maybe the Athletics and Tigers weren't the AL teams that wanted Pinto. And maybe some AL team badly wanted Pinto to be their DH, for his 2013 hitting. (ops=.963)
  4. The Twins had to waive Pinto. If he had stayed, the Twins would have TWO concussed ex-catchers (Pinto/Mauer) on the roster. What if, because of memory loss, both of them (plus Suzuki) all ran out to home plate at the start of a game?
  5. What is the statute of limitations for that? Are you saying that that Padres can NEVER trade Pinto to the AL, or that they can't trade within a certain time period after the waiver claim?
  6. The Padres may have claimed Pinto for the sole purpose of trading him to an AL team that asked the Padres to claim him FOR THEM.
  7. The doctors can stop Pinto from catching. Not so with Suzuki, Murphy, Garver, Turner and Naveretto (yet)
  8. Can the Twins add one (or two?) more names to the roster later tonight? My vote would be Luke Bard, Felix Jorge or Zach Jones. I am very pleased that Mason Melotakis was protected.
  9. I think you are overrating the Twins kids. The Astros losing three last year is the most lost in my memory. Only 14 players were picked TOTAL from 30 teams last year.
  10. "he could be a pretty good one" "But to do that, he has to add 4-5mph to his FB" I thought "has to" implied a requirement "to be a pretty good one". If I incorrectly inferred what you implied....My bad!
  11. Using your math and requirements Jamie Moyer needed to add 17 mph to his fastball in order to pitch in the Big Leagues. MPH is overrated and IQ is underrated.
  12. I think it is more likely that he DID recognize the pitch location. But, rather than TAKING that tough pitch as an experienced MLB hitter would have done, he mistakenly thought he could hit that pitch and failed. IMO, Patience and discipline were missing, not reaction time.
  13. BTW, So far, only the Blue Jays and the Cardinals have added minor-leaguers to their 40-man for Rule V protection according to MLB transactions. Keyphrase= "selected the contract".
  14. The Twins saw performance as a AAA SP which they think transfers to a MLB RP. His 2015 performance was good and maybe it "wowed" the Twins. Most of us see a non-prospect, where the Twins see a MLB ready RP.
  15. Thanks for finding that rule, which I was unable to find. I hope it took you less time to find it, than I wasted searching for it.
  16. IDK, but it seems logical that if teams have to submit a roster THIS FAR in advance,(almost three weeks) that a revision to that roster would not be a speedy process that can be completed at the last minute.
  17. Parker explained it very well. It is not difficult to hit 85 mph fastballs if they are near the middle of the strike zone. My teammates and I hit 85-90 mph fastballs back in the ice age when we played. However, if you swing at those pitches on the corners or OUTSIDE the strike zone, you, me, Park, Adam Brett Walker and A-Rod are going to strike out A LOT!! How many times have you heard that, for a pitcher, LOCATION is more important than velocity. There are pitch locations that are nearly unhittable. If you swing at pitches in those locations, you will likely swing and miss. Do it three times, you will likely strike out. Do it NEVER and you will cut down your strikeouts, DRASTICALLY!
  18. The rule is actually that the draftee can not be inactive for MORE THAN 90 days in a season. So he can be on the DL for the first 90 days, but must remain active for the remainder of the season, or be returned to his original team. In any case, if he is on the 60-day DL, he may be substituted for on the 40-man. If he is on the 15-day DL, he may be temporarily replaced on the active 25-man, by anyone on the 40-man.
  19. Disagree that Goodrum is ONLY logical replacement. IMO Bard, Melotakis, Williams, Jones, Rogers, Chargois, Walker, and Jorge are all keepers, and presently only seven of the eight can be protected.
  20. It is not in the printed rules for Rule V draft. That is another reason that I said that it wasn't true. If it did exist, Why would any team NOT exercise it? They have NO ONE they wish to protect? Not likely.
  21. "They could lose one or perhaps two at the worst" If the Astros lost three, then two can't be the worst.
