  1. Meares DOESN'T rate a "good" rating despite playing the 11th most games for all MLB SS from 1993-2001,and being "ranked 12th among all qualified MLB SS in his peak 3 years? Do you understand that ONLY ONE-HALF of one percent of ALL high school players are drafted? Do you understand that ONLY 17.2 percent of ALL drafted players reach MLB? So 86 players out of every 100,000 HS players reach the Major Leagues. And a SHORTSTOP who ranks in the top 15 of MLB SS is not "good"? Anyone in the top .00086 of his HS graduating class in a given category is EXCELLENT in that category. And WAR is a bad thing! lol
  2. And I gotta admit, I didn't look up Meares' fWAR, but if you last nine years in MLB at SS, and you were born north of the Rio Grande, you are "good" in my book. Of course,my WAR guru is Edwin Starr. (WAR!, What is it good for?.. Absolutely Nothin'; Good God y'all!
  3. He only gets one assist, but since multiple throws means that it was a bad rundown, he may get an assist and his release on the same play.
  4. That is revealing something regarding the validity of the comments.
  5. "Who was the last SS they drafted and developed that went on to a good MLB career as a SS?" Counterpoint? I had no idea we were arguing. I just tried to answer your question. If you prefer Greg Gagne or Zoilo Versalles, pick whichever one fits your unspecified requirements.
  6. Correction - Meares played until 2001.
  7. Pat Meares drafted 1990, played until 2008?
  8. I'm not accusing Gibson of that, but he has a look of uncertainty that may or may not reflect his actual feelings.
  9. After whining about the lack of empirical evidence regarding Gibson's pressure issues, I am going to change sides. I have coached high school and youth baseball for xxx years, and (with no other evidence) I have relied on my own judgement, based on reading a player's eyes. I see the same thing in Gibson's eyes as does "bluechipper". Gibson needs to disguise whatever is making him look like a "deer in the headlights" while pitching. It does not inspire confidence in his teammates or anyone else. If one of my players had that look of doom in his eyes, I would send him home to his parents before he started crying and before we lose the game.
  10. My point was the relevancy. If I was rich, I doubt that I would condition harder, even though it would likely extend my life.
  11. Thanks for the information.
  12. My questions would be: 1) What are the league average differentials (for those stats) between low, medium and high leverage situations? In other words, do MOST PITCHERS suffer from pressure? 2) Is second HALF vs. first HALF a good measure of pressure?; or is it just random?
  13. Bad yes, but pressure-driven? IMO, no. His September ERA is better than August, April and equal to June. Do you think August, April and June are higher pressure months than is September?
  14. Agree with Mike. Here are Gibson's monthly WHIP's. April 1.70 May 1.06 June 1.21 July 1.28 August 1.53 September(counting last night) 1.17 No evidence of fatigue or pressure-related declines.
  15. Maybe the Yankees would agree to play a Tee-Ball wild card game, without pitchers.
  16. I would think that LEN3 has a more valid opinion on physical conditioning, from a long distance perspective.
  17. Then how do they justify "in their Appy League rankings, they had Palacios at #3 with Daz Cameron at #5. In the GCL, Palacios is #17 while Cameron is #4"? Did Palacios and Cameron trade tools when they were promoted?
  18. I think it may be that Palacios did not have enough PA in the GCL to qualify for BA title....He was promoted to soon.
  19. "What's Up w/ Perkins?" His pitches?
  20. "Clearly he was showing up the ump. That's not good, but perhaps there's more that we didn't see, after all, the ump did turn out to be the type to toss a guy after the game was over. That stinks of arrogance and making sure he has the last word" Players are NOT given a Get-out-of-Jail pass, just because the game is over. If you don't want to STFU, there are consequences. Perkins knows that, but he wanted to vent, and felt that it would be worth it to pay the resulting fine. He just needs to get his kids a paper route, to recover the money.
  21. "The fact that he laughed ON THE MOUND the other night after he gave up another 9th inning homer, which ruined another shutout. Ticked me off. Who laughs in this situation?" A professional who is trying to stop beating himself up after a baseball failure, because that is how he calms himself. There's no crying in baseball, but laughter is encouraged!
  22. Don't try to shake hands with an umpire who is running toward his dressing room.
  23. After dinner, he has to write a check to MLB.
