  1. This is exactly where I'm at with statistical analysis of 2015 Twins season. I know it's an objective approach, but if you do it that way, you can never explain how they got to first place in the A.L. I would like the stat-heads to start digging in to the team's performance since May 1. One observation I would make about the Twins decision-makers is a strong preference for two-way players. I think that has to be coming from Molitor. Rosario, not Arcia. Plouffe, not Sano. Mauer, not Vargas. Hicks got sent down because he forgot how many outs there were (among other reasons). IMO Santana is playing SS instead of Escobar because he has more range and a better arm. Hicks and Rosario in the OF allows the Twins to shade Hicks towards Hunter. My impression of the outfield defense is, Rosario-Hicks-Hunter has been pretty good defensively. When the Twins play Escobar or Nunez in LF, not so good.
  2. I think Nunez and Escobar are place-holders at DH. Twins FO is waiting for Arcia or Vargas to get their remaining offensive issues resolved, before bringing them back. Twins are scoring plenty of runs, so there's no real pressure to make a change.
  3. Twins bullpen has been one of the strengths of the team over the past month. I think this article shows why you don't want to use season totals to evaluate a club that started badly. The best example I can think of us Duensing. Used in the LOOGY role in May, he's been as good as Perkins. He was pretty bad when asked to pitch complete innings.
  4. By the time September rolls around, there will be some fine young pitchers ready to be promoted. I'm not too worried about Santana being ineligible for playoffs.
  5. Someone's gotta get traded when Santana returns. All of the Twins pitchers are doing well right now. Sell high.
  6. The first handful of starts, Pelfrey was Houdini. His ERA was completely at odds with how much trouble he was getting into. The last few starts, Pelfrey has been pretty good. Last night was the best I've seen him pitch. He actually should have had a shutout for 7 innings. Against Boston. The mind boggles.
  7. There will come a time when Sano will be ready for promotion. He's not ready yet -- he is still committing too many errors at 3B. IMO, Twins won't make any major position player trades until after this season is over. 8 games above .500, baby. Let the good times roll.
  8. Pelfrey pitched out of the stretch today, and hardly broke a sweat. I think this is going to work.
  9. Fascinating stuff, Thyrlos! I was shocked to see Nolasco with an "average" rating. Hmmm. I like the choices the Twins FO has made this week. Meyer and Tonkin weren't ready. Starters as a group seem like a pretty determined bunch. I think they will be average at worst by end of season. How do relief pitchers look to you?
  10. I think Santana's ceiling is Carew, not Mauer. Santana is a lot faster than Mauer, and relies on bunts for some of his hits. The key question in my mind is whether Santana's OBP is sustainable. As he learns to stop swinging at balls, his walk rate will go up.
